So we are driving after all

After some serious financial dscussions, we decided we are driving. We were planning to fly down 2/28 and stay through 3/10. We discussed it and it was either cancel it or drive down. So drive down it is. We are leaving Friday instead of Wednesday and leaving Saturday. Now I must check out that I-95 website to check out the sites along the way. We will surely be loading up the minivan with plenty of DVDs for the kids.

It won't be too bad...just take plenty of videos, books, games, snacks and drinks for the kids. We're leaving NJ on 3/7 and plan on one really long driving day, then stay overnight near Jacksonville. We're driving to Clearwater first then to Disney on 3/12.

Sounds fun, after being stuck on a tiny island for 3 years, we are seriously considering driving to WDW from California! We were thinking of taking a week to get there, stopping at checkpoints along the way for the night and do a little sight seeing, stay for 9 days, drive back, so about 3 weeks total! Everyone else thinks its nuts but hey, DH has never been to the Grand Canyon and I haven't been to Louisiana since 2000 and cajun food sounds good to me!! Have fun on your drives!!

We live in Oregon and we have decided to drive as well with 4 kids. This was a financial decision as well as an adventure decision. We would like to go to the Grand Canyon also. We are planning to go in 2008.

I hate to fly, so if it is East of the Miss. river we always drive.

We've always driven from Tennessee, and to us it's a fun part of the adventure. Just getting out to stretch and get a milkshake can be fun, because every stop you make is one closer to WDW. We've always played the traditional license plate game, finding certain pictures or words on billboards, etc., too. Put a sign up in your window that says you're headed for Disney World, prop up a few Mickeys or Minnies or whoever your kids like in the windows. You'll get a few people who will honk and wave along the way, excited for you. Your kids will probably get a kick out of that. Movies, music, books, and coloring books will be a great help. Disney has the three Greatest Hits CD's that would be perfect to listen to as a build-up for WDW; if you haven't heard them you might want to check them out. They're about ten dollars each. Your trip is almost here. That in itself is exciting! I know you will all have a great trip!

This summer were driving from CO down, for one thing its a big savings over airline fare, and for another we dont have the added expense of a car rental. I have driven many times cross country and dont mind it though.

All I have to say is you all are very brave we drove from Long Island NY with 3 small kids and nearly pulled our hair out (maybe they were not quite ready) We are DVC members and if we can't afford to go and fly we sell our points

We're from New Brunswick Canada and we're driving down in 2008! 7 or 8 adults and possibly 5 kids aged 2-6! Its going to be nuts! But fun! I can't wait! A long drive for sure but so much cheaper than trying to get THAT many flights out of Canada!

We drive from Tennessee also. Funny thing is it only takes 11 hours to drive it during the night, but we've never made it back in less than 13 driving during the day, that's the difference in the traffic amounts. Can't wait 4 weeks from today I'll be arriving about this moment!

"Stuck on a tiny island" I love it! HI is one of those places that I want to go before I die, and you can't wait to get out. You always want what you don't have I suppose.

Good luck to you all! I do a 12 hour trip to my in-laws a couple times a year, and GAH! Don't wanna start or end my WDW vacation that way! It'd probably make more sense to do that if I thought I wouldn't be threatening bodily harm to my DD by the end. Fortuinately, I fly for work quite a bit and have some frequent flyer points to spend!

Just DH and myself are driving down in April , we believe it will take us about 26 hours Can not wait to not have the cell phones ringing, the boys arguing. 15 yr. old is going to Washington DC/ NYC on a school trip and 12 yr. old just wants to stay home with grandparents/friends I think we can safely say as parents we are like totally not cool any longer

There's definately advantages to driving in. Having a car to stop and get things for the trip, able to take side trips on the way and while in Orlando. A trip to the beach one day or Kennedy Space Center are just a few. Of course, there's advantages to flying too! When it's just a friend or my father and I we usually fly. When I take my daughter & grandkids we usually drive because I don't want to spend all my vacation budget on air fare for us all. It's all good!

We are driving down,too. We are going to stop in Tallahassee(make room ress. when I find a descent place) on the way down & back. We are going to split the drive so we don't kill each other and avoid starting our week being tired and crumpy .
