So was Safari spectacular ??

We don't go until next week but if you search #DVC or #animalkingdom on instagram I'm finding some fun tidbits to tide me over until we get a real review! Following!

I just posted this on the other thread:
We arrived at 6:30pm and they started letting people in shortly after. The line for the bracelets is off to the right.

We immediately went to ride the safari. They already had the elephants put away so we didn't see them. Safari was a walk on at 7pm. The gorilla trail was closed.

If you want to avoid the crowds stay away from Dinoland. It was very busy. We did have fun playing the free games and walked away with 4 stuffed dinosaurs. The game CM's were getting a workout for sure! The face paint station was open while we were there.

We met Launchpad McQUack with a very short wait. He was meeting across from the drums in Africa. We also met Mickey and MInnie with no wait (their normal place) and Chip and Dale (very long wait) in Dinoland. Donald, Daisy and Pluto were at the dance party in Dinoland.

We also skipped Kali. Rode Everest 3 times (walk on) and triceratops spin. Tough to be a bug and Primevil Whirl were also open. NO shows were open.

We left just after 10:30. Probably could have stayed another hour but my parents were tired.

Everest was fun in the dark. I was never a fan of it before but it's definitely a whole different experience at night. There's no lighting at all on the ride at all except the middle of the lift hill, broken track area, and shadow/disco yetis. Even the first silly little bit was neat in the dark. I rode 3x as well (would probably have been 30x if I were in my 20s and had a more stable equilibrium.)

What kind of food was offered? How was the entertainment?

Miscellaneous cookies, lays chips and doritos, water and lemonade, and the big hit (of course) all the ice cream bars. They had plenty for everyone. There was a deejay in dinoland and some other musical acts. They handed out vouchers for a time to ride the safari (30 minute window) and for a few free plays at the dinoland games. Apparently I'm still the whack a mole champ.

Oh,but the best part... Mr Potrock himself was at the executive meet n greet area. I can now report a confirmed sighting! But since I bought resale, I didn't get too close since I didn't want to have my blue card revoked.

Was the tree lighting up? I'm was hoping to see that in Nov, but it sounds like the park is going back to early closings.

yes the tree lighting was up. We saw a tiger moving on it. The kids would have liked to stay longer buy my parents were pretty tired.

I recommend getting your ice cream near Everest or in Africa. The line in Dinoland was really long and the dance party was in the middle of it. took forever.

We are going soon, when we booked they asked what resort we were staying at. I'm not sure what time we will head over. How do you actually get there? I think AK is open until 9pm that night, so I'm assuming we just take the regular transportation? if we head over at 9 or later how do we get there?

This is what MS told me when I booked: You must check in to the DVC desk at your resort for special transportation to the party. You can start entering at 7 pm unless you have tickets for the park and enter on your own prior. You need your ID and DVC card at the check in desk at the resort and I believe at the party.

I agree with the previous reports and experienced almost no wait times. We did ride the Kali River Rapids and it was great. Rode Expedition Everest 4 times. Went straight to the Safari ride at 7:00 and it was only a 10 minute wait. Several people in our party won stuffed animals at the Dino games. We had never played any of those games before since they usually cost extra, so that was a nice treat, although it was crowded. Our favorite thing was getting the free Ice Cream bars. They had 5 types, but I went for the Mickey Bar. My husband had several fruit bars. I wish I had also tried the ice cream sandwich, but I was full by then. The food isn't handed out until 9:30 pm so it seemed like a long wait. It was a very nice evening and I am glad we went. Can't beat free!!! Thank you DVC.

We are here now and it's great! The rain kept the crowds away. Everything for the party is open, TONS of food, we saw more animals on the safari than we've ever seen during the day, and Everest at night was amazing!!!

So glad you're enjoying the party. When you say tons of food are you referring to Mickey Bars etc. or "real" food? We're going on the 27th and wondering if we should eat before we go.

We showed up at 8 and were able to purchase drinks and appetizers at the Yak & Yeti lounge. But everything for "real" food closed up at 9. So the only food was the free stuff after 9:30. They had Mickey bars, Mickey ice cream sandwiches, fruit bars, creamsicles, 4 different types of cookies, assorted bags of chips, water, and lemonade. There was plenty at the location where we were and I didnt see them run out of anything. We were encouraged to come back for seconds (or thirds)!

I read a post on facebook that tonight was a washout.
It kind of sucked. We showed up and we're given tickets to ride safari...only 1 ride each for the party. They moved food locations inside restaurants due to rain but never announced it so we wandered around looking for food. The night safari was a let down...too dark to see anything.
