We're at BWV right now. Our house/dog sitter called about noon today to tell us that our 7 yo Lhasa Apso, Ocsar, died suddenly today from liver failure. Our sitter rushed him to the vet, but nothing could be done. I've cried off and on all day. My whole family is just so upset. This was the most affectionate, loving little guy we're ever had. So much a part of our family. My first reaction was to leave immediately and go home, but the storm made that a problem and I didn't want to totally ruin the rest of the week for everyone else.

But I just feel SO damned quilty that I wasn't there with him! He's always been my Little Friend. He followed me everywhere like a shadow. My God, I'll miss him! There will be an enormous void when we return home.

I'm sorry to post such a downer from Disney World, but I really need somewhere to vent this. Right now, I just break down in tears when I try to talk about it.

Thanks,

DisFlan

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear about your poor dog :(

Sorry to hear about your pup. If it's any consolation though, many pets (and people) wait until their loved ones are gone- out of the room or the house- before they will pass over. You gave him many happy years- focus on that and try to enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Please accept our condolences. Our thoughts are with you,

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am so sorry about your baby. As phillybeth said, though, many pets wait until you aren't around to go. Please don't feel guilty. My dog died 2 weeks after we got our puppy. I blamed my puppy for my dog dying because they were playing with eachother at the time. I regret blaming her now because I pushed my puppy away and I am not too close to her. I know its hard to lose a pet, but stay in Disney and have a good time. Your baby would want you to have fun.

:grouphug: So sorry. Special prayers going your way.

So sorry about your loss. This happened to me last week. My older daughter, who was staying with friends but feeding our pets, called me Sunday night (while I was standing in line in Adventureland to get candy at MNSSHP!!!) at 10:30pm to tell me that our guinea pig had suddenly died. I had to handle older DDD, who was crying hysterically, while not alerting younger DD, the most pet-loving child in all the universe, that we had a problem. Then older DD said, "And Jasper (18 year old cat who had developed cancer over the summer) has this thing on his face that smells gross and it's draining out." Needless to say, it was a scary night!!! So we came home from our fun-filled Disney vacation to a dead guinea pig and a cat that had to be taken to the vet IMMEDIATELY and put to sleep. It was so difficult to be the parent that day!!!!!

It is hard to face these losses, but I wouldn't give up my trips just in case something happened. I know you will grieve for your little friend, but you don't need to feel guilty or ruin your vacation. Just take a minute in the next few days to remember quietly, and try to enjoy some of the magic around you!!!!

Thank you all for your thoughts. Right at this moment, I'm holding very tightly to the thought of the "Rainbow Bridge" some day. Thank you, lunsusie.

DVCLiz, you have my heartfelt sympathy. My heavens, it feels awful not to have been there with them.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Many here can relate to your sadness. I'm sure he knew how loved he was. Try to enjoy your trip - your little friend is romping at the Rainbow Bridge now but you'll see him again someday. Remember the good times and try not to feel guilty.

It was terrible to look over at her little freckled face and think, "I know you're having fun now, but tomorrow morning I'm going to have to tell you something terrible." I dreaded it all the way home (one hour flight) but in the end, it wasn't too bad. She cried a good bit that day and at school the next day, but she seems to have handled it pretty well. And I'll have to say, even though this was the cat I wasn't that attached to, I am missing him this week.

I love my pets, but I am not one of those people who can't travel without them. When I board my pets, I fantasize that behind that swinging door is the meadow from "The Sound of Music" and my pets all run free and stop to drink from the mountain stream. And sometimes Julie Andrews will sing to them. I know in my heart of hearts they are in cages and bored or lonely, but it really helps to visualize them somewhere else!! And I could swear I heard my dog humming "I am Sixteen, Going on Seventeen" the other day...

(not trying to ignore your sorrow, just hoping to make you smile a little...) :flower:
