So upset with Sears right now

I am so mad I could spit right now!

DH and I were interested in a Cyber Monday deal at Sears.com today. We looked it over, decided this was the item for us and the deal was fantastic. We wanted to use our Sears card and get the interest free financing to pay for the item.

Of course, I can't find the card, so I check the copy of our credit report from a few months ago and see our Sears card was closed due to inactivity. Fine. I'll reapply online - there is a nice little icon right next to the item encouraging me to apply for their card.

Put in all my info and hit "apply" and get a message saying they will email me back in 30 days???????

So I call them (which I guess I should have done in the first place, but the kids are all home from school and it's LOUD in my house today), and it takes me nearly 15 minutes to explain to the rep why I can't give him an account number.

Finally, he verifies that my account is indeed closed. I tell him that I want the application pulled because I do not need a Sears card in 30 days - I need it today. They have to transfer me, which they do, and after another 20 minutes, I am told my application was denied.

I applied in my own name, and since I am a SAHM, I have very little income. I assumed that my DH's info would go along with that. It takes me another 20 minutes conversation with this 2nd rep to determine that NO - they are only looking at me, and since I have no income, I was denied.

Fine. I ask them if my DH can apply for the card in his name, and they say yes, but that it will take 30 days online to do it. BUT, the rep tells me that DH can go to the store and get a card within 5 minutes AND that the Sears staff would be happy to place our order in the store for us.

So, DH goes off to Sears after work to reopen the account and place the order. The is stock available, but the sales clerk tells us that we can not order the item in the store - it's online only (totally goes against what the rep on the phone swore to me earlier in the day - when I explained exactly what I was trying to order). The sales clerk calls Sears Card, because evidently they need a code on the back of the card to place the order online. Codes are only available AFTER the card is printed. So there is no way for us to use a Sears card to buy this product at all.

I finally decide the deal is too good, and opt to ask my parents to let me use their Sears card so I can get the item. of course, by the time I do this, it's totally out of stock. I can't get it.

I am so mad at Sears because they wasted my time all day by giving me wrong information. Had my husband gone to the store and found out it was out of stock, I would be irked but understanding. But it wasn't out of stock - we just couldn't buy it.

I think Sears is being a bit misleading with their credit card offers - placing links right on the item pages and alluding to the fact that one can immediately apply for the card and take advantage of the offer. You can't.

I was going to place an order at Lands End tonight too - but I don't think I am going to after this. Sears just lost a customer - and a customer who will most likely have to purchase several major appliances in the next two years.

meanwhile, I don't have the item I wanted and doubt I'll be buying it at all this year now. Maybe another deal will pop up somewhere else....

Sorry - that is frustrating. We had our Apple Store card cancelled due to inactivity and I tried to get it reopened and they denied me. And we have a very good credit score, never paid anything late or anything. I was mad, but just decided to let it go and not worry about it.

Your card isn't the first one I've heard of being canceled for inactivity, but I don't get it. I've had a Sears card for more than 25 years and really only use it when I get ready to purchase a major appliance (which isn't too regularly). So far, so good with mine. I guess I'd better keep a watch on it, or at least buy something small now and then (when I would usually use my debit card). :headache:

I really don't like Sears. I have one of their credit cards, but haven't used it in over a year. I guess that card is canceled, but you would think you'd get something in the mail to let you know the card is canceled.

I talked to a lady today who had a bank credit card cancelled since she opted out from a higher interest rate. She was under the impression that she could just get another card later if she needed it. She was of course denied.

You take a chance when you close or ignore a card for a while.

Been there, done that. Their loss since we used to purchase a lot from them. I found out my card had been canceled while we were trying to purchase a microwave at the store. The funny thing is we get some kind of mailing at least once a week about our card and the great promotions we can take advantage of if we use it. Bah. :headache:

While we havent had any credit card problems with Sears, they have really upset us and lost our business over inaccurate and unhelpful employees.

Quick details on our recent situation: Dh was at our local Sears store a few months ago, they had their Disney Princess TV clearanced out for like $40. DH asks if they have anymore, they say yes. He goes to buy it, processes the order, buys the protection plan. They go to get the TV from the back and find out that they already sold the one they just sold him:confused:. So, then they offer to go ahead and let him have the display one, he looks at it, it is missing a jewel from the TV, no box, no warranty papers. They tell him that they will give hime a BIG 3% discount on it. He asks them if they get more in soon if he could trade it in, they said they wont get anymore, but other Sears might have some. He takes it home, we call the next closest Sears, nope the dont have any. We call our sears again, said NO WAY will they get anymore of this item. Call the main Sears number, they tell us that our Sears can call around and find us a new tv since it is under warranty and replace it at no additional cost. So, again I call our Sears again, he says no way will he do this, we bought this TV cheap and if we have a problem with it, we can return it for what we paid for it. We decide heck with it and just keep the TV, DD3 wont know it is missing a jewel or anything.

Well, we were at Sears last weekend and guess what:confused3 They had a big new display of this Exact Tv :scared1:. I tell DH to talk to them, we waited and waited and waited for the Mgr. He remembered us and said toget the TV and he will see what he can do. DH drives the 20 minute drive to our house and back with the TV only to get there and the mgr say nope, cant do anything about it. SHouldnt have been sold the warranty and the MFR warranty expired 5 days agi:mad::scared1::confused::mad:.

SOOOO, I do not wish to shop Sears again, and we were pretty big shoppers there.

I know this ended up being long. Sorry

While I am not happy to hear about so many others having problems, glad I am not the only one!

I don't really care that Sears canceled my credit card - we really don't use it much at all. But I do think it's really poor form for them to advertise their "great deals" associated with their card, and insinuate that you can get the card quickly, but then not fulfill that. And even worse is the rep telling me they CAN do all of that in store, which was a big ball of baloney!

It just added to a really bad day (totally PMS here) where the kids were home from school and in full end-of-vacation mode. I didn't need trouble with Sears.

isn't Cyber Monday supposed to be all about the ease and convenience of shopping????

I wonder if the rep wasn't thinking straight and that it was a cyber Monday deal. Sorry you didn't end up getting it.

I personally LOVE sears. They have closed out my account more then once for inactivity. I only use it when I buy a big appliance, but they always reopen it on the spot, no issues, doesn't take long. They have always stood behind every product I have ever bought from them, fyi, they are almost always Kenmore.

Little story, my aunt years ago was denied a CC after divorcing her husband. She never once stepped foot in Sears again because of that, until they started doing Extreme Home Makeover. She now has no issues with them because of the good they do.

I hate them, too. I opened a card once when they had some sort of deal and I was buying a big ticket item. The first statement didn't arrive in the mail until two days after it was due, and they charged me a late fee which totally cancelled any benefit I got from opening it.

I never buy anything important there after that.

Upon talking more about this, DH and I figured out the last time we used the card was when we bought our Dyson years ago. Sears, despite having all of our info in front of them, somehow sent all of our bills to an old address. After a month or so, I called with concern and changed the address when I figured out the issue.

they tried slapping us with all kinds of fees, which they had to remove when I reminded them it was their fault I never received a bill.

Maybe it's a good thing I didn't get the deal...

Sears sends the bills to the address provided, if you move it is your responsibility to call and provide your new address.
I can’t believe that you are bashing sears because you got denied. I would be too embarrassed to even post something. BTW I’m sure you didn’t get the letters stating that your card was being cancelled either :confused3

I experienced a very similar situation. I applied for a Sears card online to take advantage of additional discounts on major appliances that I wanted to purchase online. After applying for the card online, I got a message saying the application was approved, but the actual card doesn't arrive in the mail for several days. In the meantime, they don't provide you with your account number to make a purchase. So while waiting for the card to arrive in the mail, I found a similar deal somewhere else. What a bunch of morons.

I have a gripe with Sears too. We have been wanting a new fridge, a bigger one than we have. So we said before Thanksgiving we would get a new one, put the old one the garage as back up/extra space. We go to Home Depot, Costco, local place and look around. We come home look online and find one we really like at Sears. It says "click here" to see if avail in your area. We do, there is 1. We call to verify. The lady on the phone says "yes, there is 1 only in your entire area". Off to Sears we go.

We are looking at the floor model, and decide yes, this is the one. So we tell the salesman, we would like this fridge please. He says, "we do not have that model in stock", will have to order it. We said, "can you check because we just called and the lady said you had 1". He says "they never know on the phone, you are talking to someone in Chicago, not someone locally here at the store". We said "oh, ok...well can you check anyway, because she said you had one". He says "we NEVER have that mode in stock...you will have to order it, it will take 3-5 days". CAN YOU JUST CHECK!!! So 1 of the 2 nasty salesmen that was there goes in to the back to check.

While we are waiting we ask the other salesman "how do we know that we are not talking to someone local when we call a local #". He says, "you never will, all calls go to Chicago". Say we say again "how do we know, as a consumer sitting on our couch, that we are not speaking to a local store"....His reply "CUZ I'M TELLING YOU". The guys just wasn't getting it.

Salesman #2 comes back from the stock room, and guess what....they DO have 1 in stock. STUPIDS. They were nice as pie after that. If there was a different salesman around or another Sears in town with it in stock I would have left and gone elsewhere. We were so upset, and upset for purchasing, but it was the one I wanted, what do you do?

you know you actually have issues with two different companies right? Sears no longer administers thier own cards-the cards were taken over by Citibank about three years ago and Sears has nothing to do with issuing them-so gripe about sears-but if you are griping about the credit cards-your grip is with Citibank-and they are god aweful.

No they didn't send it to the address provided - they sent it to a 2-year-old address from when we had a card years before that. Which is what they entered in the computer despite having our license and application right in front of them with the new address on it. I would not ever think of having to verify my address since I gave them the current one - twice.

And I was only denied because they would not allow ME to apply for the card since I am not working (I am a SAHM by choice). I think it's pretty lousy, and I know that I have opened cards at many other stores in my name - they just use the combined household income.

The denied ME because I make less than $3000 a year (yes, a YEAR) because I stay home with our children. They would not take a joint application. My husband had no issues with HIS application and my name on it. So no embarrassment here - I wouldn't give someone with no income a credit card either, but I think they should rethink their application process.

And we did not get any letters saying the card was canceled - maybe they sent it to that old address? LOL I only knew it was canceled because it was on my credit report as being "canceled, paid, never late."

My big gripe is that I was told that this all could be taken care of IN STORE - which was a big fat lie. And in the time that we wasted waiting to take care of this IN STORE, the item was sold out.

Lesson learned for me - I will never try to use a store card's promotions again. Had I just clicked and bought it with my Discover or MC, I would have the item here next week. I just don't like being lied to.

Didn't know that actually, thank. That means I have an even bigger issue with them - why on earth would a Citibank employee tell me how I can order my item at Sears? Big misrepresentation IMHO.

What I don't understand is why didn't you just use another credit card? Did they have a deal if you used a Sears charge?

So how did you make your payments on your Dyson if the bills were sent to the wrong address? You knew your card was cancelled months ago and you wait to reapply or have them look up your old account on black Friday... am I the only one confused
I think the lesson learn should be to keep your finances in order. And BTW why did you expect them to extend credit to you when EVERY OTHER TIME your husband was primary account holder:eek:
