So upset about a theft

Why is it so hard for people to think that someone stole them? People are so rude and self entitled. I'm sorry your son had to deal with a person like this.

Nobody is saying that they 100% weren't stolen. All that is being said it is possibe that something else might have happened. Why is it so hard for people to not think that someone stole them?

It's just as hard (or easy) as it is to think maybe they didn't get stolen. All we know is the kid doesn't have his glasses anymore. Anything beyond that (without a witness or video) is speculation.

Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers comes from Roman law and some nursery rhyme I think.

Possesson is ... comes from English Feudal law.

But feel free to do your own research.

Exactly. It's an ancient "expression" and might have even been successful back in the 16th Century [no-one knows when it actually originated]. And while it can be used as a persuasive argument, it is not a legal basis for theft.

How long did your son leave the sunglasses there? Was he inside, at the pool, working the parks? Could someone have accidently picked them up? Or did the guest just come right over and snatch them up as soon as he turned his back?

Finders keepers, losers weepers. Possession is 9/10ths of the law.

I hate that expression. It's disgusting. It's just an excuse to steal. Did you teach your kids that? You do know the definition of steal don't you?

And, no possession is not 9/10ths of the law. Tell that to a judge and see what happens.

It also wasn't necessary to the conversation.

OP, I think it sucks that someone would take them, which is probably exactly what happened. There are still honest people in the world, just ignore those that aren't.

He put them down and they were gone. So someone must have taken them. If you take something that isn't yours then it is stealing.

My son is a cast member.

Yesterday while helping a guest, he put his sunglasses down, a guest stole them. These were an expensive pair of sunglasses bought for him by his girlfriend at Christmas.

We all know Disney cast members don't earn much and most of them go out of their way to help guests.

My son is so upset that someone would do this and so am I.

Whatever happens, he better not let the girlfriend find out.

What do you possibly base this on?

Nobody knows, or nobody has said in this thread. Contrary to numerous posters concluding with definity that they know what happened.

The options are literally endless. If they were stolen, it was a crime of opportunity. Something of value was left unattended, if even for a moment, and someone took them. Wrong, but nonetheless, not surprising. if they are that expensive, don't wear them to work, don't set them down and never let them out of your site. Not blaming the victim, just saying ways to prevent them from being stolen.

That is pretty much what happened.

He set his glasses down (I don't know why he did that in stead of putting them on his head or something), helped the guest, turned back and his glasses were gone.

That quote is hilarious, I forgot I can come here for a good laugh sometimes:-)

But yeah in general you have to keep your eyes on things, kids AND adults will grab things. I had some expense swim googles stolen in less than a minute as I was drying off and dressing at a local gym. Amazing boldness..

If, as the OP stated in a later post, his son looked for them and couldn't find them, and if he checked with lost and found and they weren't there, then I think it is reasonable to assume that they were stolen. I'm sure the OP's son won't make the same mistake again. I made DH buy "idiot strings" after he lost his 3rd pair of sunglasses in as many months last year.

Also a good reminder to everyone that you aren't immune from this kind of thing even at WDW.

True to an extent...but the possessor is presumed to be the owner only in the absence of clear and compelling evidence to the contrary... in this case, the "clear and compelling evidence" is the person's admission that it was not HER cup.

So much better of a read this thread has been then reading 12 threads on the same page asking the same questions.:cool1::cool1::cool1:

That's a shame. Sorry it happened to him.

That really stinks! I'm sorry to hear. I guess we tend to forget that typical annoyances like that can happen at such a happy place!
