Hi all. Dh needs a vacation. Just for fun yesterday, I checked availability for five nights at the end of June. A one br was available at Wilderness Lodge for all five nights! We jumped on it, booked our flights, rented a car and are good to go.

We have never done this last minute of a trip before. Never stayed at the lodge before. So excited!!!!!

We are booked into a one bedroom for five nights June 23 through 28. What sort of requests should I put in for a nice view. Don't mind a bit of a walk. Does anyone have any wilderness lodge pointers? Is there a community hall? Do they lend dvds? What is the pizza delivery situation?

I booked fast passes yesterday and am happy to report I got all the headliners we wanted (for five people, no less), including mine train. Dining reservations seem a little scarce though. Don't care. We will make do.

Never been in June. Just how bad will the heat be? We plan on taking it easy. Mornings out. Lazy afternoons. No pressure.

Thanks for your input. I'm bursting with excitement. Can hardly wait to take the boat to mk!

Hi. It'll be hot in June but if you accept it and don't fight it, you'll be fine. Mornings are good for getting on rides that don't have FPs and a bit cooler. Basically just come back to the lodge and veg during the peak heat in the afternoon then head back out for late nights. VWL has good transport to the MK for those late night hours. You can take a boat or bus directly to MK and also you could take the boat to the contemporary and walk if the MK boat line is long. I believe they still do lend DVDs though with iPads and stuff we never use this. For a one bedroom you should have pretty good views (trees or more trees) regardless. There are some studios that look out on the maintenance area. Generally I try for the top floor since some of those have cathedral ceilings. But I will always set aside a room request to get a room sooner :-). The building is small. So even the furthest rooms aren't too bad. Enjoy!!

That is wonderful!! So happy it worked for you. Will you do a air mattress for the 5th person?

We are booked into a one bedroom for five nights June 23 through 28. What sort of requests should I put in for a nice view. As others have said, the main view is of trees, not that such is a bad thing. Our usual request is overlooking the pool, floors 2-4. By requesting the overlook, that will put you closer to the elevators and away from the maintenance area. We ask for floors 2-4 to have a balcony--floor 5 has dormer-style balconies which means you have to essentially stand to look over them (some rooms do have the high ceilings, though). Don't mind a bit of a walk. Small resort, so no room is that far from the elevators nor from the walkway to the main Lodge. Does anyone have any wilderness lodge pointers? Tons, but here are a select few: 1) put your name on the list to be a flag family--fun if you can get it; 2) ask for a Hidden Mickey sheet at front desk and go searching--fun to do in down time at the resort; 3) family movie night on the beach (you can also catch great views of the EWP there, and some of Wishes higher fireworks); 4) rent bikes and ride (or just walk) to FW--cool stuff to do there, plus Trail's End breakfast buffet is one of the World's best values; 5) catch the geyser on the hour throughout the day; 6) sit in the giant lobby and watch people come in for the first time. No community hall, but there is a kids club (Cubs Den) if you want a romantic night out, say, at Artist Point. Is there a community hall? Do they lend dvds? What is the pizza delivery situation?

Have a great trip! :thumbsup2

No we won't. I think we will take the cushions from the pull out couch and the kids will rotate sleeping on that. We will bring extra blankets. We have always stayed in one bedrooms that accommodate five, but on this short notice and for only five days, we will do just fine. I'm still in shock that I found a room. Thanks for your kind wishes.

Have a great trip! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much. I'm sure we will. We are all very excited.

Love vwl, it's one of our home resorts. The villa building is small and there aren't great views, so room request doesn't really matter. Choose high floor for a balcony.

My main tip is this: walk through the main bldg going to/from the boat dock. It's an amazing lobby.

Thanks. Will do. We frequently visit Wilderness Lodge just to enjoy the lobby and grounds. Never stayed there though. I have read that corner rooms--1 BRs specifically--are laid out differently and are larger. Is there any truth to that and if so, is it worth requesting that. With five of us, the little bit of extra space might be nice. Not essential though. We nearly did an add on a few years ago at WL, but ended up going for a bigger contract. Really looking forward to trying it out. The good thing about a last minute trip is that one ends up trying new things just out of necessity.

The main pool at night is stunning, the way it is lit. Whispering Canyon is great for lunch (or dinner, but lunch is less $$). Try the skillet, it is amazing. The lobby of the DVC building is one of the GREAT secret places to relax at WDW. Friends had a first floor room, close to the lobby, and used it often as an extension of their room, to have more space, lol.

Take a small boat over to the FW Campgrounds, it is so lovely there, and relaxing. It is also so nice to be able to take a boat over to the Contemporary, of course.

woohoo. VWL is our first home resort and by far our favorite. We always ask for 3rd or 4th floor, lake side close to elevator - in that order. I hope you have a wonderful time

I answered some of your earlier questions in the text of your own quote, but to be more specific here, as with most resorts, they won't take a specific room request. . .and those corner rooms are a rare find. The best are the 2BRs (I got to stay in one years ago), but you'll be fine in the 1BR. Again, have a great trip!

Thank you again. I didn't see the answers to my questions until now. Much appreciated. I will probably heed your advice about floor 2-4, pool view.

My advice is to spend one evening on the beach enjoying a drink and/or snack and watch the water pageant. This is something we do, even if we stay somewhere else (did this one night a few weeks ago when we stayed at AKL) WL is my favorite! Enjoy!

Thank you. What time is it at? Never seen it. Noticed your ticker. I too spent my fortieth at wdw. Great isn't it?

Yes....can't think of a better place to celebrate anything!

The water parade was at 9:25 when we were there but it can vary so check with the concierge or look it up on the MDE app! Have a wonderful time!
