So this is interesting. 2018 is cheaper than 2019 opening day

We're looking at going on a 4 night Bahamas cruise on the Magic in 2019. (Key West, Nassau, CC). We're looking at going in April, so kids are still in school and we're moving away from Spring break season.

Both sets of numbers are for 2 people and include the taxes/port fees but not gratuities.

2018 Prices:
Cat 5C (6632 regular veranda) 2,549.50
Cat 5B (7606 regular veranda) 2,589.50

2019 Prices- same itinerary but earlier in April, which is cheaper than going later in April.
Cat 5C (6624 Regular veranda) 2,910.48
Cat 5B 2,950.48

I'm assuming either A. I've screwed something up (entirely possible) or B. Disney just raised their prices 360 bucks because they can.

Maybe the 2018 sailing hasn't been very popular, is it still offering early/opening day pricing? Seems unlikey, but maybe?

Easter is in March in 2018, so there are fewer school vacations in April than you might typically find. In 2019, Easter is mid-April, so there are more school vacations that month and, hence, higher prices. And, yes, it's also because DCL raised its prices because it can.

Easter is April 1,2018 and April 21, 2019. It makes more sense that there would be more travel in 2018 as the holiday is early in April (Still a reasonable Spring Break season.) I think that in 2019, Spring Break would not include the Easter holiday because of it's late-ness. ...but prices are what they are ...for cruises, for cars, for milk, for everything.... life's crazy.

NYC public schools will be out the week after Easter in 2019 (unless there are RADICAL changes) because that week is also Passover, which is what our break is scheduled around.

I knew Easter was early in 2018, sorry I was off by a day. We're in the northeast, and our April vacation tends to fall in line with Easter, except when Easter is early, as it is in 2018. The peak April 2019 prices coincide with Easter and our April 2019 vacation, as I expected they would. We're cruising during our 2018 April vacation and that week is significantly less than the peak prices of the 2018 Spring prices, which span the earlier Easter holiday.

I just compared a 7 night Southern Caribbean in a category 5A, stateroom 7052, on the Wonder for January 28, 2018 and January 27, 2019. For 3 people, 2 adults and one teen, the price is $4,968.02 for 2019 and $5,583.77 for 2018. So today 2018 costs more than 2019. We paid $4,701.77 last January for the 2018 cruise. So it looks like the price increased $260 year over year or about 5.7%. I think that’s a reasonable increase.

I was hoping I'd screwed something up.[/QUOTE]In April, the pricing varies, depending on when in April you go, prices are higher than other times in April, the week before and after Easter Sunday is always more expensive than other weeks in April.

2018 first week of April; 7 night Fantasy 11a 2A2K $9,635.36
2019 first week of April; 7 night Fantasy 11b 2A2k $6,985.12

Both cruise depart on or around 30 th or 31 st of March

The difference is most likely due to when Easter lands each year, closer to Easter will be more expensive because more people are out of school at that time.

Wow, Dug. Things are so different as you move around the country. Some of our schools are done by the 3rd week in May, so having a spring break at the end of April wouldn't work here. A lot of colleges are done in May as well. But...I get it. Do you go later into June then? 'hope not.

June 26 usually. The 28th or so if the 26th falls on a weekend.

But we don't start until after Labor Day.

I live in MA. Our spring break coincides with Patriots day; in 2019 it also coincides with Easter.

Today, the 2018 cruise is $7500 for cat 5A (2A/2K) but the 2019 is $10K+ (cat5A, 2A/2K). Easter really hikes up the cost.

They raise them every year. Sometimes people think if they wait until the following year and book opening day it will be cheaper. Not always the case. Sometimes it's cheaper to go int the current year if you missed the opening day pricing.

Northeast schools I believe are June to Sept. My family in southern California is on the June to Sept break, but some schools in California are May to August. We are May to August. It's why prices are lower beginning of June and end of August. Everyone is out in July.
