We went out to dinner with some friends of ours last Friday night. They are going to be first-time parents in July.:bounce: We talked about many things, from parenting to pregnancy to work to current events. Then as we lingered over coffee he turned and asked us "Have either of you read any good books lately?"

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

DH and I both burst out laughing at the same time. Took us a while to stop.

I hope we didn't scare them! We often talked of books we had read, and I used to read a LOT, but now with DS here I think I've read 2 books in 9 months. And nothing very heavy. As DH and I drove home I told him they were probably asking each other if we were serious! Or saying it wasn't going to happen to them, that they would still make time for reading. I think they will be lucky if they can make time for housework!

Don't worry Sonya- you'll get to read again......someday:rolleyes: Just kidding. BTW, I love looking at your posts just to see pictures of your little cutie:D

You mean you didn't ask them if "Goodnight Moon" or the entire Dr. Seuss series of books qualified as "good books"???:rotfl:

Uh, no Pam, I don't, but I do read "Goodnight Moon" to him in French so I guess I'm getting a little culture......;)

Oh pretty soon you'll be reciting "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" cover to cover - by heart. :D

You will get your chance to read again - probably more than you even want to. Now that my DD is a teenager, I can read to my heart's content, but I miss those days when she was a little one.:(

"the sun did not shine, it was too wet to play so we sat in the house all that cold, cold wet day....."

Anyone else have the Cat In the Hat memorized? My DH can do that one almost cover to cover from memory and the kids are 8 & 11, it's been a looong time since we read it to them.

When my kids were small (I had three in four years), I was lucky to read one book a year. I would usually pick one on vacation. I would only read People magazine, because I could get through an article on the potty! Now my oldest is 13, I'm back into reading again with a vengeance. Nice thing is I went back to work 2 years ago in a middle school, brand new, lots of great books in the library. I just got done with the Homer Hickam autobio series. I'm going to start Lovely Bones. We have a reading contest in school where we post what books we read and see who can do the most by the end of the year. I try to read at least one per week.

LOL!

This year, I've actually read about two dozen books. This is because I had a week long business trip, two solo trips to WDW and about 3 books that were read over quite a few lunch breaks.

Sonya, the kids are 7 and 4. I can't tell you how many books we've memorized together and any time I try to read a book, that's an invitation to cause a ruckus!

When my 3 kids were very very young I read one of those "How to Put the Spark Back into the Bedroom after You've Had a Baby" articles in a parenting magazine. It actually said "Begin on a night when neither of you are tired..." I thought, okay, then the spark will come back in about 18 years!

Back to reading books: Ask a librarian or consult a list of the "Best Childrens' Books" and read your children all the classics that you may have missed as a child. I read the entire "Little House" series to my kids when they were pretty young. I had never read them and just loved them. The best childrens' literature is just plain good literature, and should enrich you, as well as your children.
