Happy weekend to me... our fridge is kapoot. Granted, I think it's the original with the house, and the house was built in 1996, so I guess 14 years is pretty good? That happened to us once. But it was -30 outside so I just stock the balcony with food. 
If your 1971 stove is older than YOU, my vintage Roper stove (we think it's from the 40's) must be older than your parents! It doesn't catch on fire but it runs about 75-degrees too hot.
