If I buy a couple of small contracts at two different resorts, I would have two "home" resorts and would be able to use the 7-month window at either resort?

Could I then use all my points for a vacation at just one of the resorts??

:) Yes, you can combine your points at 7 months. You would have two home resorts and could use each set of points to book at 11 months for a split stay.

So, for instance, if I had 50 VWL points and 100 HHI points, I could make a VWL reservation at 11 months out even though I wouldn't have enough VWL points for the reservation until I combined?? And I couldn't combine until 7 months?

Mainly I could still make the VWL reservation at 11 months and have no problem using all my points to stay there and use no points for HH in that particular year.

Or, with banking & borrowing, you will have the 11 month window every year but you will alternate resorts each year.

If you borrow your next years VWL points, and bank your other resorts points, you will have two years worth of points to use at the 11 month window. The following year you would have two years worth at the other resort.

Would it be best if both contracts had the same use year or does it really matter?

No, this doesn't work. You can only use VWL points to book VWL at the 11 month mark. You can't use your HHI points for stays at VWL until the 7 month mark. As PP's stated, you can bank/borrow your VWL points to get the amount you need to book at 11 months, but you can't use a different resort's points until the 7 month mark.

Yes, it is best if both contracts have the same UY, but not absolutely necessary.

you realize you said 7 months?

if you have 50 VWL points and 100 HHI points, then at 11 months out, you have 50 VWL pts that you can use to book VWL - but your HHI pts are useless at VWL at 11 months out. you can use any kind of VWL pts (banked/current/borrowed/transferred) but ONLY VWL pts to book VWL at 11 months out (and the same for any other resort).

if there is availability at VWL at 7 months out, you can also use your HHI pts to add nights to the VWL reservation.

if you have 2 separate UYs, you can still book extra nights for VWL at 7 months using HHI contract but you cannot "pool" pts for a single night. so if you have 10 VWL pts left over but need 24 pts to book a single night - you can't easily combine those 10 VWL pts with 14 HHI pts to book that night.

if you have one membership number (with the same UY month), then you can pool pts from separate contracts at 7 months and take 10 pts from one and 14 pts from the other to book a single night at any resort.

If you own only 50 VWL points, you can only use those 50 to book VWL at 11 months, unless you have banked points from the previous UY or borrow points from the next UY. However, if you choose to bank all one year and borrow from another, you could end up with 150 points to use every 3 years to book a trip at VWL.

What you can not do is use any of the HH points at 11 months at VWL. Those can only be used to combine with the VWL points at the 7 month mark.

Thanks to allwho replied. That answers it so well. Appreciate it! Really helps tp make my decision.
