My poor Kitty had surgery yesterday on his you know whats!! Our apartment insisted that all cats must be neutered and declawed.

I agreed to the one part but he is way to old to have his claws yanked out. I think that is cruel!!! The manager said that it is not like they were going to inspect the cat or anything so we decided to lie.

We also have to come up with another four hundred dollar, non-refundable pet deposit. That is 800 just to keep them there, plus we have to pay 25 dollars a month rent for each pet.

Our little condo is turning into a major house note. I am more worried about my baby though!! My mom is keeping her about an hour away from us to heal and allow us to wait for our other deposit to come through. I am driving to Houma tonight to see my baby.

She/He long story is a Blue Point Himilayan just like the cat on Meet the Parents, only cuter. I have had her for eight years and her birthday was yesterday. She had her acorns clipped on her B-Day!!!!

We just got two new furbabies who happen to be girls. considering that they would be "its" soon, I told my boys they were boys! Otherwise I would have kitties named Padme and Leia! As it stands they are Obi and Sky!

Sorry about your furbaby! Hope he feels well soon!

Just wanted to welcome you both to the DIS. Lots of folks with cats here who understand. Hope they do well.

Thanks Dan1 I am actually meandtheguys, but I mucked up my password, and couldn't get it straightened out! Welsome to allfordizney, however!

*hugs* to your poor furbaby. And while I usually don't agree with lying, in this case thank you. Requiring neutering/spaying is a good policy. Requiring declawing is cruel. (IMO, anyway)

Got any pics of your baby?

I agree that it is unnatural and cruel to demand to declaw an animal and it's more than an opinion.

When I adopted my cats from the Humane Society I was asked if I ever declawed an animal. I said "no", they said "good answer. It's CRUEL."

Here's a report that might be interesting to read...http://www.avar.org/avar_cat_declawing.html

I hope everything works out for you. If it were me I'd MOVE! No apartment complex can demand to me what I must do physically to my furbabies. I check their policies (which they have a right to have) before I even consider them as a place to live.

There is a company that makes little adhesive clue on nail covers called "softpaws.com". Actually they are called soft paws. Don't know anyone who has used them, but we are going to give them a try due to leather couch in fmaily room. I have VIVID memories of my cats ruining ours when we were kids!

--Thanks for all the advice everyone!! I like the idea about the soft paws. I had heard that before and mentioned it to my fiance.

He said whoever told me that was a complete idiot!!! I think it was my mother who first told me about it. :hyper:

So sorry you had to put your kitty thru that. Hope she/he feels better.

I am shocked to hear that your condo is requiring so much for the cats. I lived in a place that only required a deposit for the animal in case of damage, refundable. I wonder if they have a legal right to keep that deposit. I have never heard of anything like that before.
