and you don't like any of the choices in the park...Is there a nearby resort you visit for your CS meal? Please consider the fact that we are not a "hopping" family...base tickets only.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Dining plan or out of pocket?

If you're on the Dining Plan, the Epcot resorts don't have true quick service places. There's a grab and go at the Beach Club, and that's pretty much it.

If you were dining out of pocket, I'd grab a meal at Picabu buffeteria at the Dolphin resort. A few years ago I was impressed by the chicken pot pie.

My only advice if you're staying at DHS park for counter service is to stay far, FAR away from ABC Commissary.

We often walk over to the Boardwalk and grab sandwiches from the Boardwalk Bakery. They're pretty good and the desserts are wonderful!:thumbsup2

Slim pickins' at nearby resorts as far as counter service goes. Food at DS gets a bad rap (and for good reason, mostly), but honestly the burgers at Backlot Express are okay, and they have a good fixins bar.

You can also find turkey legs at DS. And really you can't go wrong with one of those!

What about heading over into EPCOT and grabbing Fish & Chips at the Chip Shop just inside the entrance? Always an option if on the dining plan.

If not on the dining plan, we've done 2 different options -

ESPN and had chicken wing platter between us plus a portion of chilli to share

Stayed in HS and gone to the Tune-in-Lounge and had appertisers from 50's Prime Time Cafe (don't like the main meals but the appertisers are nice)

We just 'bite the bullet' and eat at DHS. There is really nothing at the Epcot resorts and Epcot is too far even for people who have park hoppers. We usually end up at Backlot Express (the burgers are same as other ones at WDW) or Studio Catering (I like the salad there). I have also heard that the sandwiches at Starring Rolls are good.

You could head over to the Boardwalk and get a pizza as well. :cool2:

I don't care for any of the CS restaurants at DS. If on the DDP I always catch a bus over to the Pepper Market at CSR.

have you thought about downtown disney?... Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck Express are excellent CS places...

I don't have any good ideas beyond what the other's have posted--other to say that this is why I booked a TS for my day at DHS (Sci Fi--hey, at least the atmosphere will be neat!) and am budgeting for just paying CS at the other parks where I do have favorite CS spots.

Thanks for all of the replies!

Starring Rolls appeals to me, but DS11 isn't a sandwich lover. I suppose we could get him some chicken strips somewhere else.

I really want to have one of those beautiful cupcakes from the bakery.

This sounds like a great idea! I had some absolutely delicious treats at Starring Rolls last year & they also had a nice variety of coffees, liqueurs, & wines (if you're in the mood for something other than soda). I think you'll also be happy that you saved yourself the hassle of traveling out of the park. Have a great trip!

On our DHS day, we're doing a late lunch/early dinner TS meal for this reason.

We'll eat a CS in the morning prior to opening at our resort. Be to the park at opening....Grab a snack around 11am or so....Then we're heading over to Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club for our early "dinner". Since no ADR's are taken, we're getting there early in case we have to wait but hope to eat around 3:30pm...Then we'll head back to the park, see a couple characters, use a couple FP's accumulated earlier, and then head to the F! line. Likely we'll grab a couple snacks for before/during F! as well.

No CS for us in the park that day.

Starring Rolls is great! Another to consider: last Nov we had a really good lunch at Backlot Express... DH & I had the Grilled Turkey & Cheese and Grilled Vegetable Sandwich. Both were tasty paninis that we would gladly have again! And they also have ckn nuggets/ hot dogs/ burgers there for your DS.

But if you really want to get out to a resort for a break from the park, I second a pp's suggestion of Pepper Mkt at CSR. Great options there! I would also consider Mara at AKL, really good variety and not much farther away. Or even Pop Century food court (have had decent ckn penne alfredo and ckn parmesan there).

Enjoy your trip!!:flower3:
