Osteosarcoma is a form of bone cancer , the majority of the times the limbs can be saved but sometimes amputation is needed. The treatment is very agressive chemotherapy before and after surgery and sometimes radiation ( depending on the tumor location ) and if it spreads to the lungs other surgeries may be performed to remove the nodules in the lungs and additional chemo may be required.
The treatment is nothing short from hell , the hell that these kids have to go through is something I do not wish to anyone.
This really hits home for me as my daughter ( Imabrat ) is an osteosarcoma survivor , and we pray that this monster never comes back.
My heart goes out to this family and I will keep them in my prayers.

When DD was in high school, she had a very young female teacher who had this for quite a few years and eventually lost the battle..

Thank-you for the posts. I've shared them with my friend and she is touched. imabrat and Mskanga, she said to tell you that she will keep you in her prayers too. Tomorrow is the funeral.
Sometimes, I think that we'll just go the the wake which is in the Church. If I have to sit through the funeral, I'd be a spectacle because I've been sobbing uncontrollably off and on since yesterday. Hopefully, I can pull myself together by then or I can take a Xanax because I want to be there for my friend.

So hard to loose the young... of course at that age we felt we had lived a lifetime

I very recently lost a good friend. Ashleigh was 24 and had battled various physical issues most of her life but her spirit, love for people and life overpowered the pain.

Its been 3 days since i found out of her passing and am just starting to realize that I need to stop feeling sad she didn't get the chance realize her goals, but I should be glad and feel privileged that she was here for us while she was. I fully believe everyone who's lives she touched came away better for it & I plan on carrying on and teaching both her love for everyone and her courage to attempt to do what most thought she wouldn't be able to... sometimes with surprising outcomes

I'm sure your friend's son was the same. Know that both he and Ashleigh are happy now and without pain

I am so, very sorry for the loss of your friend's son. My heart breaks for his family. It is devastating to lose someone so young. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

We have experienced childhood cancer in my family, also. My nephew was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma when he was 8 years old. We decided to take him to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for treatment, where they discovered he had ALL Leukemia, not Ewing Sarcoma, thank God... This was nine years ago and DN is now a healthy, adorable 17 year old living the good life. I thank God for his cure, and am so grateful for his life. We are so very happy we took him to Houston for a second opinion, and treatment there, instead of letting him be treated locally. Otherwise I am sure the outcome would have been vastly different.
