So sad, things didn't work out :(

Do not take a loan out or charge a vacation you know you cannot pay back when the charge is due. Interest alone could be substantial. I give both of you credit for not putting this on a charge card and being turned down for a loan could be a lifesaver. I met a couple who booked a trip. A few months before the trip which I suspect cost five thousand dollars hubby was informed he was to be laid off in a few months. Still time to get the two hundred dollars back. They had already purchased their airfare at the cost of six hundred dollars. I personally would have cancelled the trip and been out the 600.00 rather than of charge the trip as they did and be out an additional 4,500.00. People nowadays have a attittude of entitlement., live well beyond their means and use home equity lines of credit for items they normally would not have the money for such as cars, rvs, fancy vacations, private schools. Don't go clip coupons buy nothing unless needed for one year and save, you will feel better.

For those of you who are surprised someone would take out a loan, contemplate this : People in many neighborhoods who purchased a house they probably should not have also took out home equity lines of credits. Those lines of credit were used for the vacations, sports cars, private schools, rvs etc... Now the house is not worth that many take their accumulations and forclose on the property or cry to their mortagatge companies to take make the house more affordable . We should all watch what is going on in our neighborhoods. Then the next set of people move in and purchase an home at a forclosure price and take out lines of credits for things that they feel they are entitled to and it repeats. It is simply amazing what happens in my neighboorhood where loans were taken out for way more than property value and rvs were sitting in the drive , now the homes are forclosed and the people probably have the rv because they may have used the home equity line to pay for it and depending on the bank you may not have had to say what you were using it for. So silly us the ones who do things right do not have the rv and fancy vacations but the people probably do and in the right circumstance with the right home someone could actually take out a home equity line of credit forclose and then buy a smaller home with the home equity line that they drew on. Perhaps they would draw on it for a year or two or all at once but once they have what they need they dump properties. Venting

We only make it to WDW every 2-3 years (3 years since last trip). We made our reservations over a year ago and have been making payments (with our income tax return being the bulk of the amount). There's no way we could put together a last minute trip and come up with the money and we prefer for our trips to be completely paid for before travel time. Maybe reschedule for later next year and put what you would be paying the bank towards the trip - you could always cancel then if you couldn't come up with it. But I believe the pp is right, you are already in the window to not get your deposit back.

That stinks that you have to cancel your trip. I can imagine how disappointing that it was to do. :grouphug:

We may be in the same position this Feb. We have until mid-Feb. to make our final payment on our trip this coming April. If we don't have it paid in full then, I am going to be postponing it until December. Due to my DH's work, we are stuck going during peak/holiday times. It is quite expensive with a family of 5, so we are planning on staying at Fort Wilderness in a friend's pop-up camper. If we have to postpone in, I will change it to Port Orleans-Riverside, we will have enough time to have the extra money it would cost to upgrade to PO-R by then. I like to pay for our trips in advance...I like knowing that we are not coming back to debt. That is why I like the system Disney has where you can make payments without fear of losing your deposit/monies paid up to 45 days out. Thankfully, our kids do not know about this trip that I am planning. It won't be nearly as hard to postpone it as it would have been if they knew about it.

No offense, but why are you taking out loans for a vacation? A loan should be for something you need, ie mortgage, a new car or an education. Why not just save some money, pay off what you need to pay off and start a vacation fund? I know how it is to cancel a trip, and I am sorry that everyone is feeling down, but there must be a better way to get to Disney without having to pay that harsh interest.

I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip, I know it must be very disappointing. We canceled our Sept trip this year because I wasn't sure how I would feel with the pregnancy, and it was a very sad Labor Day weekend. I hope you can work on saving over the next year or so and plan a new vacation. I think just having a ticker and a date to look forward to, even if it is far in the future will take the sting out your recent cancellation.

Had to know this was coming! Good grief..the poor woman is sad they had to cancel their vacation.

How someone pays for their vacation is no one elses business and not anyone's place to judge, whether the poster cared to share it or not.

I actually think it was a little mean to post that when she's upset. Kick someone when they're down a bit?:sad2:

I don't think anyone is trying to kick OP when she is down. But it is a legit question that some of us had and when you post such things on a public forum you will get alot of questions/comments/critiques.I understand the Op's disappointment.I truly do.

I'm sorry you won't be going on vacation but I have to agree with those who say it is a bad idea to borrow for a luxury like a vacation. Save up the money instead. It may be disappointing but I'm sure you'll enjoy your postponed, paid for in advance, trip very much in a few years (or maybe sooner if you are diligent in your savings).
