When The Land closesJan 2 for 3 months, the Electric Umbrella will be the only restaurant in Future World?

I guess it is a slow time for parks, but still.

Perhaps they will reopen Pasta Piazza during that time. Or maybe for really old time's sake - the Odyssey!

But, The Garden Grill may remain open, since all of the work will be taking place on the ground floor.

Garden Grill is DEFINITELY closing (just ate there two weeks ago, and had a long talk with our server about this).

What exactly WAS the Odyssey? I have been going to Epcot since the mid-eighties, and can remember a LOT of things (including when "Honey, I shrunk the audience" was a big Michael Jackson thing)!! But, I do not EVER remember the Odyssey being open. I asked a CM once in the mid-nineties what it was, and he said it used to be a "catering place" for big parties. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, I saw a lot of CM "suits" going in there...it looked like it had been converted to offices or something. I would LOVE to know what this is/used to be.

TIA,

I would like to know if anyone remembers what the Odyssey was, too.

I swear I have pics from when I was a kid in the early 80s eating there...was it a restaurant?

I find my own answer on intercot... I wasn't imagining things... :)

Odyssey Restaurant 10/1/82 - 1985 Lunch and Dinner
1985 - 1992 Lunch only
1993 - 1994 Lunch (Seasonal) 1995
1995 - Now Only open for certain private functions. Extensive renovations began at the end of September 97 and were completed for the Food and Wine Festival (10/25/97-11/23/97).

There's still the Fountain View Bakery for coffee, baked good, and light snacks. (We love stopping here for breakfast before a World Showcase lunch.)

That really stinks, I've never had the chance to eat at the Garden Grill and I guess I never will. Thanks for the update

It'll re-open in March or April...sorry, if I confused you. The CM's are only being displaced for three or four months. The really sad part is, only the full-timers are guaranteed work anywhere. The part-timers (who comprise 80% per our CM) are not "guaranteed" any hours anywhere!!

Where pasta piazza use to be, there is Express Dining. It may just be there for the holidays, but who knows. They had 3 entrees, 3 salads, 2 kids meal choices.

We ate at the Odyssey a few weeks ago. They use it twice a week for Magical Gathering groups and the Illuminations gathering. It was very nice..we even had a DJ. Our server told me it's used most often for large group dinner meetings, for instance, if a company needs to have a dinner inside the park, or for dinitaries.

Well that's good, just not for the part-timers. Thanks

My favorite use of the Odyssey is during the Food and Wine festival. I spent some time there almost every day for six weeks attending the complimentary cooking demonstrations and tastings.

It was an incredible experience...and one that I intend to repeat! Only THIS time when I go (in Fall 2005), I intend to write a daily Trip Report featuring what goes on daily at the Food and Wine Festival. LOL...do you think that might be the longest continual Trip Report ever?

Seriously, the demos...and the interaction available with the chefs (besides getting to taste their creations) was exciting enough to knock me back to the feeling that I used to get when WDW was new and there were LOTS of things I had never experienced!

We ate at the Oddessy for lunch the first time we went to Disney back in 90.

It was a big place.

Was it counter service? Or, sit-down dining?

Thanks for all the replies!!!

there is a pizza stand by test track

Beca, it was counter service. I don't remember much about it. As it was our first trip, I was prett overwhelomed by everything.

Just ONE, your killing me!

For quick service, I would recommend the one in the Japanese pavillion.

For full service (this is where you are getting me) I would have to go with Le Cellier... 2nd choice... Alfredos.

I talked to the CM when I ate there last week, and he said that Express Dining would stay open while Sunshine Season and Garden Grill are closed, then they'll decide what to do with it after that.
