Checked in Saturday. Just on my way to church but had to do a quick post. This resort is amazing! Love the rustic, relaxed feel. Love the size of the room. Love the cast members. Love the peaceful marsh. Wish DH could be here because he is crazy for marina life. I will post later but I just had to give kudos to those of you who discovered this place long ago!

:goodvibes I'm so happy for you! Enjoy a great vacation, and keep us posted!

Just got our bikes from Patriot. Only $25/bike for length of stay, delivered right to our door! I am posting from our balcony because we are poolside in room 2322, close to Mercantile, which has wi-fi. I am having trouble connecting to my e-mail but can get onto DIS. Weird. Have to check on my settings.
Weather is spectacular. Glad we brought a GPS. Because the island is so conscious of having everything beautiful, signs are all hidden. And I am directionally disabled.
Why did I wait so many years to come here? We're off to finally check out the beach house. :goodvibes

I hoping to be able to book a room around Christmas - we will see next week! There is no internet service at HHI - is this correct? :surfweb:

Only dial-up in rooms, but a couple of spots have wi-fi, including pool area and check-in area. By the end of the year rooms will have hi-speed, so if you come at Christmas, you should be fine.

Jean, I am so glad you are having a great trip. We love it there. I have heard HHIR referred to as "DVC's hidden gem". A lot of truth in that!!!

Thanks for the info! I go into withdrawal if I cannot access the internet. :surfweb: (Also, I get brownie points with the boss if I can check my work e-mail while on vacation. :wizard: )

I didn't realize that they had dial up in rooms. I thought they only had wi-fi around the pool deck and in the lodge, like in the "pool hall". It would be great if we could use our router there in a few weeks :).

Oh, I can't wait!!!!! We will be there the week of the 4th of July and I am so looking forward to lying on the beach (with umbrella and chair, of course!) slathered in sunscreen and reading a book, while drinking a Diet Coke!!!!

I think I love HH more than WDW, if I had to actually choose. Thank goodness I don't!!!!

Hi Jean,

Glad to hear you are having a great time, wish we were there with you.
Looking forwad to haering all about it.

Jim.

Hi, Jim,
Just back from our bike ride to the beach. I was a wreck because some parts of the path are just a lane to the right of car traffic and DGrandNiece is only 5. But we made it both ways in one piece. The beach is perfect. The pool at the beach house is okay--no cool slide like at the resort pool. We are checking out the crab fishing for one day this week--maybe tomorrow, since we will be babysitting for a 6 month old while her parents golf.

The 3 main wi-fi hot spots are the pool area, Big Murgie's Den, and out at the beach house. However, a few of the villas in the main lodge have gotten a signal, and I know you can get a signal outside Big Murgie's Den, where the grill is.

I have a question, we have always taken chairs, but this year are coming "up" to HH on our way back from WDW and are squeezed for space. Can you rent chairs and umbrellas?
Thanks!!

Jean - you can buy a crabbing net from the activity center for around $5 - go buy some chicken necks and your grandneice can crab all she wants. My dd 16 can't wait to do it next week when we get there. We just leave the smelly crab net for another kid (or adult) when we leave.

Yes - it's one of my favorite things about HH!! You can rent one umbrella and two chairs - the last time we did this I believe it was $17 per day, with a small discount if you rented for the week. Many think the cost is not worth the convenience and bring their own, but I hate the idea of having to buy and store that equipment, and am totally willing to pay for the privilege of having someone else set it up for me!! If you rent for more than one day, they will put a card on the back of your chair and you will have the same ones each day.

When we go I rent two umbrealla and 4 chairs - we are a family of three. That way each of us can have a chair to herself, and at least two of us can have shade any time. I have two teen daughters so usually one of them is in the sun or in the ocean, but I need shade on the beach so the umbrella is a must for me.

Btw, the chairs and umbrellas are not specific to Disney - they are rented by the lifeguards on the HH beach - although they are mostly set up in front of the Disney Beach House - which makes it very convenient to hit the snack bar or the bathroom!! It makes a good vacation that much better!

Yes, chairs/umbrellas are set up for rental each day - they may be rented from the lifeguards on the beach. You might be able to purchase similar items at Walmart at HH - the rentals are convenient but a bit pricey - it may be less costly to purchase the items and leave them there.

Thanks for the report, Jean! Have a great stay. :)

One more note on the chairs and umbrellas, I believe they are rented by the town of Hilton Head not the resort and I'm not sure if you can charge your room or not like you can some other locations. Just thought I would mention it....

Maybe we should start a chair and umbrella swap like they do the refrigerators! Or is there one already?
