Please don't flame me. I never rent out points, and don't actually ever intend to unless I end up with points I can't make use of sometime. I just think the rental price is TOO CHEAP! When DVC accommodations are cheaper than All Stars, something is drastically wrong with the system! I think those who rent points out should do all of us a favor and increase the cost of points. I don't like the idea that DVC is cheap enough for a group of 12 young people on spring break sharing a GV or even packing themselves into a 2 bedroom! Yep, it's done, and they make a mess and a problem for all the rest of us.

While I also have never rented out points, I do think the addition of the dining plan makes it more attractive to renters. And while I can see "distressed" points being a bit of a bargain, overall I think the rental price will increase per point, except perhaps during the premium weeks when it takes a LOT of points for anything. Certainly value season points should be worth more on the rental market.

I would think the questions from renters may decrease in volume once the "dining plan dust" settles.

Why should premium weeks cost less? They cost more for people making a reservation through CRO, don't they? Why should a non-member get a cheaper reservation than a member? Just wondering.

One last question. I see so many people suggesting to non-members to only rent Sun-Thursday because it takes so many points on Fri and Sat. If more and more people continue to only go Sun-Thurs, do you think DVC would consider evening out the points on weekends a bit? I wonder what the occupancy is on Fri and Sat. We stay on Fri and Sat because I hate to move, but I know lots of people don't.

Exactly, CRO doesn't charge as much, percentage wise, of an increase for premuim weeks. Yet DVC takes a lot of points during premium weeks compared to value season. Comparing the cost of renting points at $11 or $12 to CRO there is less advantage to most renters. It may be easier to rent at a little less during those times. Supply vs demand will ultimately determine that.

As owners, we always stay over weekends as well, we hate to move. The resorts seem busy with cash customers on the weekends, so maybe this helps recoup the cost of trade outs and hasn't been a problem. In otherwords, some folks not reserving weekends on points could create the availability for those cash rentals that pay for the trade outs to cruises and Disney collection.

I don't worry about this. I think that Fridays and Saturdays are the majority of the nights that DVC sends to CRO to pay for the non-DVC choices members make (like cruises, stays at the non-DVC WDW resorts, etc). It also increases the liklihood that members can get a cash discount for those nights.

There may be more turnover on Fridays and Sundays, but I don't think the weekend occupancy rates are significantly different from the weekday rates. There just may be more CRO guests on the weekends than DVC guests.

My reasons for believing this is that there are so few cash discounts available for the DVC resorts via CRO. Remember, any unreserved points inventory is usually sent over to CRO at the 60 day mark.

In the rest of the WDW resorts, weekends nights sell out much more quickly than the weeknights do. If there were weekend room nights going empty, don't you think there would be more discounts offered?

If the differential were evened out, I think more DVC members would reserve the weekend nights. That could very well increase the number of points it takes to reserve the non-DVC options, as CRO might not be able to rent out the weekday nights as easily as the weekend nights.

It's a theory - might not be right, but itmakes sense to me.

I agree, Carol, and maybe that makes it easier for those of us who like to check in on Saturday or Sunday to get our room a bit earlier too.

Im with you Diane, its time the prices for rentals go up! I, like you, have never rented out my points, and I hope I never have to. That means less trips for what I have worked so hard to get.
