Do your schools have "red ribbon" week. It's just a big "say no to drugs" campaign. We have special theme days where the kids should wear hats one day, wear red another day, to show their participation I guess. Yesterday's theme??? Oh I just HAVE to share this with you. Yesterday's theme was "Hippie Day." Yes, that's right, kids. To show you're support for saying no to drugs, we're asking you to dress as a hippie. Remember to wear your tie-die. Peace.:hippie:

Pardon me, I was quite young in the 60s and 70s, but wasn't tie-die the uniform for drug addicts at that time? :rotfl::rotfl:

I just thought that was TOO funny! I know some of the faculty are younger than I, but they might consult their history books next time they plan the themes! My 13 year old is a big fan of 60s/70s music and culture and he even said to me....as he pulled on his Jimi Hendrix tie dye shirt.... "doesn't this seem wrong???"

(editing to add ...because I know someone will be offended by this... yes I KNOW that you're not a drug addict if you wear tie dye. I wore it myself, in the 80s! But I think we all have a good general idea of what hippiedom was about)

Sometimes I just shake my head at the stupidity of it all.

My pet peeve is how the DJ at my daughter's dances (Catholic grammar school) is allowed to play anything and everything. Don't get me wrong, I like the music, and I'm sure some of the kids don't have a clue what they're singing about, but my favorite is when he plays YMCA. :rotfl: Need I say more.

Hippie day during a say no to drugs weeks is a real head shaker....got to wonder about that one.

My children have had red ribbon week also. I've wondered what crazy sock day, face painting day, and mismatched shoe day have had to do with drugs????? The funniest thing is I asked my children about it last night and they don't even know what red ribbon week is.....they thought they were having spirit week!!!

Yes, I have to agree with you that "Hippie Day" is very funny for a say no to drugs day. Our kids do it here, and they had to wear red one day, funky socks one day, wear a tie, and today was hat day. Tomorrow is school sprit day. No hippie day for us. :rotfl2:

Especially since the hippie theme is "sex, drugs and rock and roll" :lmao:

LOL I never even thought about that....Our girls do Red Ribbon weeks too, but no Hippie Day, crazy hat day, crazy hair day, backwards/inside out day, spirit day but no hippie day. :)

Yea, that is dumb. Someone must have been high to come up with that.:lmao:

Yesterday was "nerd day" which is also dumb. Yes, let's pick on the "nerds" of the school.

My dd says that the kids on the bus are saying they are doing drugs in honor of Red Ribbon Week.:sad2:

Wow things have changed since I used to run Red Ribbon Week at school 16 years ago! We used to have all sorts of informational activities and then on the last day everyone wore red. Not sure how all this other dressing up days apply to resisting drugs, but at least the kids are having some good clean fun! :)

LOL! That's funny!

DS has had red ribbon week this week. He's in 1st grade. He's come home every day with a red ribbon sticker. He's told me about what smoking does to your lungs (we don't smoke but my MIL does). No "crazy days" though.

Yea that would have been me and my friends in Jr high!

My daughters school had it last week and one day was wear your clothes inside out day--she refused to do that, she would never wear clothes inside out!

Is this meant to be like the commercial: "this is your brain on drugs ... any questions?"

Kind of like: this is how you will dress if you're on drugs? :rotfl:

That is funny. Ds's school did sweat shirts to "sweat out the drugs" and sports team shirts to "team up on drugs". I wish we'd let kids be kids at least until they're out of grade school. :sad1:

Well, if kids in grade school weren't doing drugs then they wouldn't need to have drug education in elementary school.

We have to make them aware. Some of those little ones are leading nightmarish lives that we can't even imagine and to protect our kids, they have to know to turn this stuff down.

We had Hippie day too! It was Tuesday. Maybe they come up with the themes nationally? We had the sweatday, team day, tomorrow is say boo to drugs for the halloween parade (yes we still have halloween parades)

I grew up near a hippie commune in the 60's - it definitely seems odd to me!:hippie:

I just learned something new!:rotfl:

I learned something new to. I had no idea what the meaning of this song was. And I was singing and doing all the movements to YMCA several weeks ago while we were waiting to board our cruise ship. I am not sure I will ever look at the Y the same way again when I go to swim or workout!

LOL--no I think it was supposed ot be like "drugs will turn your life inside out"...but she had no desire to wear clothes inside out- "to itchy, to weird looking". Two of the days they were supposed to wear red shirts...she has one red shirt and god forbid you were the same shirt twice in one week- its just not done LOL...so she did it for one of the days...only about half the kids participate in the whole clothes thing anyone. For spirit week they have "punky brewster day"...all the kids are like "who the heck is punky brewster and how does one dress like a punky brewster" LOL...sure the teachers know the show but the kids....nope...
