"So is this when they bring out the Mickey Mouse cattle prods??" Final Thoughts 1/10!

Well.... what's the first thing you do after getting off an airplane?

Bathroom break!

Except the women's was closed for cleaning. It was nearly midnight afterall.
Well there were 4 people that could use a women's restroom to 2 that could use the men's... I'm counting Dash twice here. :teacher: Mr. I just wanted to use that one and let the four women's restroom users to just use the family restroom. I didn't want to put 4 people in the family restroom or wait for each of us to take a turn....I knew there was another restroom down before the escalator.... so.... I kept walking. I offered to wait for Mr. I but he declined.

Sure enough... another restroom.... but this time the mens was closed. Mr. I decided to be a stubborn you know what and not use the family restroom either. Even though it was just one person and not 4 people. I don't get it. I didn't then, I still don't. But whatever. It made me mad. Which made me madder... because I don't like being mad on vacation. We all stalked off to the mini-monorail and had to wait for the same train to make it's way back. They were only running one.

We made our way down to the baggage claim and waited. And waited. We got 3 of our 5 total pieces including the car seat.... but were missing 2.

And the baggage belt stopped. No luggage.

Which really made no sense that 3 of 5 would make it.

Mr. I decided to walk around and sure enough it was stopped on the other side of the baggage claim. I thought they ran them around more then once but apparently not.

Baggage claimed, we made our way to the airport. Thankfully Jack Jack was feeling independant. He walked, sans monkey and insisted that FGM hold his hand. He wanted nothing to do with me. I pushed the stroller with the carseat balanced on top, Dash started out with our medium one but switched out for my mom's little one eventually and Mr. I had our two big ones. I had done this recently enough to remember how it works, so over to the elevator we went. Back up to level 3 terminal A, a brief stop for Mr. I to use the facilties. :rolleyes1 Then we made our way across the airport main area, stoping to take some pictures

Happy to be there!!

Earport store was all locked down.

down to level 1 on terminal B and allll the way down to Magical Express counter. Every time I make this walk I end up looking behind me at some point to make sure I'm going the right way because if feels soooooooo far down there.

Luggage parade

We finally make it to the ME counter. I park everyone and the bags over by the red carpet area, but there's no one standing there. So I run over (after carefully watching where I step to avoid any rogue luggage waiting to trip me :rotfl2:) and get in a very short line at the counter, they check our vouchers, ask where we're going and right it down on a post it note. (not kidding!) She directs us to the lady at the end of the line by the automatic doors. We start to go into the queue area and are waved around it all and bypass the lines totally. There is a bus waiting for us and the driver is sitting on a bench outside. We're the first family on.

031.jpg

Excited boys! Jack Jack was soooooooooo happy to be on a "Big Bus" !
032.jpg

Tried to get a more serious pic...

I'm prepared to wait. and wait. About five minutes pass and another family gets on, from an international flight that's always early morning arrival.

The lady from the counter walked out to the bus driver and handed him the sticky note with our destinations on it. :confused3 We only had to wait about 15 mins before we pulled off! :yay:

The driver hops on and we're informed it'll be 45 mins and that we are lucky that we only have 2 stops because it can take up to an hour and half to get through all the stops this late at night. The other family is staying at Saratoga, our first stop then we'll be going to the Poly.

The bus trip was quick. Ended up being less than 30 mins to get to SS. We got to watch the ME video and then right after we dropped off the first family, a second video came on. Just a little Donald Duck cartoon. I don't ever remember this coming on before... which means a) I was really tired and delusional or b) it's something he let play since it was a longer trip than normal. :confused3

The boys laughed. And laughed. Jackson got tickled. He would laugh this fake loud boisterous laugh that was so put on. But we all laughed at him and he'd laugh some more. We had a little moment of Disney magic already.

We drove the back roads by Fort Wilderness to get over to Poly. This was when we passed the Golden Oaks Entry that I posted about on the PTR. Luxury living on Disney property! Don't I wish!!! OMG! Lovely lovely homes, all kinds of architecture options, and for the bargain basement starting price of 1.5 million.

:lmao: :lmao:

Google it if you're interested in drooling and dreaming!

Mr. I looked it up on his phone that night and then I looked it up the next day. Gotta love having smartphones with you in Disney.

We arrived at the Poly after a few sightings of deer. I didn't have the heart to tell the bus driver that slowing down to look at deer wasn't necessary for us since we are from the Deer Capital of the World... but it was sweet of him to try to let us see them on the sides of the road

Poly was pretty empty. They were washing down the outside walk ways when we arrived at nearly 2am.

The bell hop met us and took our luggage for us, managed to fit everything on his car including the carseat! Love their spatial relations skills.

We walked into the lobby after trying to take some really dark pics.

034.jpg

There was one lone CM standing at the desk and we were greeted with the soon to be family Aloha! I had online checked in just for kicks and it didn't take long for him to print our KTTW cards. He gave us all leis and sent us on our way.

I'll be honest... I was too tired and hungry to truly try to soak up the Poly when we arrived. I barely remembered to take ANY pictures at all much less the tons I normally take upon arrival. It was a lot different arriving so late. I was still really happy to be there even if it was a tad surreal at that point.

We decided since the kids weren't in mid meltdown that we'd head to Captain Cooks on the way to the room instead of sending someone back.

036.jpg

On our way to Captain Cook's

Our options were limited to the cold case, but thankfully there were two Turkey Clubs left. They were huge so we figured we could share and the kids love grapes so the grapes that came in the sandwich boxes were a plus. We grabbed a yogurt, bag of Cheetos, and a brownie for Mr. I. I had to grab my first Dole Whip. 2am or not, it was calling me! I did everything short of stroking it and calling it "my precious".

I also grabbed my first chocolate dipped Mickey shaped Rice Crispie treat!

We got bottled water and a coke to share and headed to our room. We spent like $46 dollars on a cold case dinner but we were hungry and didn't care at that point.

Our room location was fabulous! We left Captain Cooks, crossed the bridge to the right of the main pathway, looked at the cute little ducks floating around and were at our building in seconds. We had a few issues with the key card access to the building... but we finally got it to work.

Our room was the first room on the right, right after the elevator and vending room. The bell hop was waiting for us at the door. WOOPS! Sorry !! We didn't even think that they'd deliver the luggage before we called from the room! Felt bad for the guy.

He walked us in, unloaded the cart, showed us where the lights were etc and left promptly.

The room is huge and I love the extra sleeping room! The bathroom was only one sink but that wasn't an issue for us this trip. It would have been nice to have a separate water closet from the vanity but it never became an issue. The low ceilings date it a bit as does the smell. But it was still the Poly and we were so happy to be staying there!

037.jpg

Our one towel animal

We settled in with food. The Turkey Club on multrigrain bread was REALLY good! I was surprised because it was a cold case sandwich but it was yummy! Mr. I and I shared one, and FGM and the boy shared one. It was so big it was cut into 3 sections. So that worked out well. I ate my Dole Whip and just soaked it all up. Left my Mickey krispy treat on the desk area for the next day.

041.jpg

042.jpg

After we were done eating, I went ahead and unpacked while the kids unwound aka jumped on the bed with some Disney Channel.

043.jpg

At one point they turned on the iHome radio and danced it out.

I got us all unpacked into the drawers... the shoes on the shoe shelf in one of the closets. Pushed the daybad down an inch or so to squeeze an empty suitcase between the daybed and tv stand, and got two empty suitcases in the non-safe closet. Used the Disney store re-usable shopping bags for laundry! Worked great! Hung up the shirts that needed hanging up.

We moved the chair closer to the bed so that if Jack Jack rolled off the bed he wouldn't roll far. We parked the stroller next to the window. Checked out our patio view... which was of ferns and bushes.

We finally turned in around 3am. Set the alarm for 11am. The boys crashed. Mom crashed on the daybed with her ear plugs in. Mr. I crashed.

I laid there.

And laid there.

The sheets drove me nuts. They were stiff and itchy and not like I remembered the ones from AKL. Everytime you turned over, which for me was often that first night, they were noisey.

Honestly, looking back now, I think I was just overly tired and overstimulated and things were just magnified.

I finally dosed off I think around 4:30 am. It was the last time I remember seeing on the clock.

The alarm clock went off at 7am.

:scared1:

The boys must have turned the alarm on in all their button pushing the night before.

I was the only one that even heard it. I turned it off immediately and turned back over to go back to sleep.... and nothing.

I could not go back to sleep. I tried for about an hour before I finally gave up and got up at 8am Florida time.

I decided if there was ever a place I could function on 3.5 hours of sleep it was my happy place. The thought occured to me that I could slip out of the room and do whatever I wanted. The whole World was my Oyster. And this would allow everyone else to sleep as much as they could, something else that was in my benefit!

I left a note for mom and then decided I should tell her in case she didn't think to look for a note in the dark hotel room. I knew she'd be up before Mr. I would so I whispered to her that I was off to explore and would be back before the wake up call rang. And off I went.

Up Next: Where would I go?? Would I regret not staying in bed to sleep? What's for breakfast? Would I be able to wake everyone up for lunch? Would we like Kona Cafe?

STAY TUNED!!!

I'm subbing in too. :surfweb: Great start to the TR. I like the "yeehaw" story at the airport - too cute. I'm jealous that you get to stay at the Poly.:cloud9:

So glad you're here!! :welcome:

Glad you're enjoying it! I thought the yeehaw was pretty cute too!! :goodvibes

I can't tell you how many TRs I've read from the Poly and sat here and drooled! Never thought we'd be able to stay there. It was a lucky set of circumstances that gave us the opportunity, for sure!

I'm here!!!

Well I'm going to be here. I've got to get to bed, but wanted to make sure I subscribed before I forgot. I'll be back tomorrow night to read all about your trip.

J

Glad you're here Jane!!!

I'm here! I'm here!! I feel like I'm late for a very important.....TR! :lmao:

:lmao:

YAY LL is in da house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep it coming I can't wait to hear more. Your boys are adorable!

Thank you!! Glad to have you along for the ride!! :welcome:

Hi!
My husband and I were at the Poly from the August 3rd to the 8th! We stayed in FIJI...

I will look at my pics from the resort and see if I can spot you or your kids!!

Wasn't the Poly wonderful!!!!!!!!!!! :cloud9:

That's so awesome that we were there the same week!!!! You'll have to look at my pics too and see if you spot yourself!

The Poly IS FAB u liciuosness!

Thanks for reading along!!!

Hi, I'm subbing. Looking forward to reading more! :surfweb:

Glad to have you!! :welcome:

Subbing! I love your TR so far! Your little one with that monkey backpack just looks sooo familiar to me! Did you use it in the parks? We did MK and Epcot on the 5th & 6th. Could we have crossed pathes? I suppose lots of people do use that thing, but it would be nifty if we did. Following along for more! :goodvibes

Woohoo, you're at the Poly! :cloud9: I love that you went to Captain Cook's at 2am! I didn't realize it was open 24 hours. I'll keep that in mind for December...

And you had your first Dole Whip of the trip! :thumbsup2

I totally understand how 3.5 hours of sleep in WDW feels after our June trip! I can't wait to see what you do with your private touring morning! :woohoo:

Oh my gosh - such a late night!! And an early morning! I'm glad you got the dole whip before bed thought! That's important!
If that were me, I'd be pretty cranky by about 2 that afternoon. I hope you weren't! Looking forward to more pictures of those adorable boys and the beautiful Poly (someday...).

Just found your report...we just got back too!

So jealous about the Poly! I love it there. Can't wait to hear more. popcorn::

Yay! You are THERE! So glad you didn't trip over luggage this time either - no poop and no tripping. Plus a very quick ME. Perfect way to start a trip!

The boys were so AWAKE at 2 am! :rotfl: Wow!! So glad you weren't dealing with meltdowns.

The Poly has a "smell" that makes it seem dated? I've never heard that...interesting....

How awful, yet exciting, that you only got 3.5 hours of sleep. I'm excited to hear about what you decide to do! I know I would be up at that coffee bar in like 8 seconds flat...:rolleyes1

I love that you had extra time in the morning to go explore! Even if it was unintentional! I think next time I might try this with DH, he could easily sleep all day if he wanted too, perhaps next time I will let him and go explore or shop on my own!:thumbsup2 I hope you have time during the day to grab a nap at least :goodvibes

Hey gelly, sorry I'm late, but I'm here!

I can't get over the empty pictures of MCO - that's a sight I never thought I would see! I also can't believe how awake the boys were, they must have been running on adrenaline alone. I know exactly how you felt with that overtired, unable to sleep thing - unfortunately it strikes me often :sad2:

Can't wait to hear about your alone time exploring, hope you don't pass out on a couch somewhere ;)

I suffer from insomnia as well and have found that if I pop in my iPod and listen to music or podcasts sometimes (not always) I'll drift off to sleep. I hope you had a wonderful time wandering the resort.

Can't wait to read about the rest of your stay.

Glad you are enjoying it!

We were in MK on the 4th!! So who knows. But there were quite a few monkey harnesses!!

Will get the next update up this weekend!

The 24 hrs counter service was just another perk of Poly for us because I knew how late we were flying in!

 for my first Dole Whip!!

Sleep at Disney .... well I can always get by on less at Disney than I can anywhere else. Too excited to sleep!!

Oh my gosh - such a late night!! And an early morning! I'm glad you got the dole whip before bed thought! That's important!

It was a late night... but we knew it would be coming into it, so we were mostly prepared. With Mr. Incredible's work schedule, we are used to pulling late nights sometimes... so it wasn't a completely foreign experience to us.

Dole Whips before bed are TOTALLY necessary. :lmao:

You'll have to keep reading to find out my cranky factor.

More pics coming up!!

Just found your report...we just got back too!

So jealous about the Poly! I love it there. Can't wait to hear more. popcorn::

I love it there tooo!!

Thanks for reading!! Welcome home. Such a bittersweet feeling isn't it?

Yay! You are THERE! So glad you didn't trip over luggage this time either - no poop and no tripping. Plus a very quick ME. Perfect way to start a trip!

It was a mostly great start to the trip! My boys are pretty good in late night situations... we're all night owls and especially during the summer we stay up later than the normal family I would say. So no meltdowns, thankfully. And Jack Jack's little 1 hour nap did help. And the fact that we were going to visit Mickey Mouse certainly didn't hurt!!

The smell.... maybe it's just me... I have a pretty sensitive nose.

It just smells older. A little musky, a little smokey... like once upon a time someone smoked in there. That could be from someone smoking it a non smoking room against the rules or it could be that the rooms used to be smoking rooms once upon a time. I don't know...

BUT I only noticed it in our room. Not in GCH or anywhere else. And after a day or so I didn't notice it anymore, my sense of smell adjusted. It's definitely not a deterrant from staying there.

No coffee for me. I so wish I like coffee but I just can't get a taste for it.

I know, I know. Blasphemy!

I was really excited about my extra time. It was unintentional but definitely the first thought that popped in my mind probably made it ever harder to go back to sleep. My DH could sleep all day too... so it may be something that becomes a tradition for me! :goodvibes

YAY Michelle! Glad you're here!! :cheer2: Empty MCO was EERIE! The over tired thing strikes me often but Disney is the best place to have it hit! :thumbsup2

I hope I don't pass out on a couch somewhere too! :rolleyes1

I suffer from insomnia as well and have found that if I pop in my iPod and listen to music or podcasts sometimes (not always) I'll drift off to sleep. I hope you had a wonderful time wandering the resort.

I'll have to try that next time!! I think part of me really didn't want to go back to sleep truth be told.

Will start uploading pictures right now for the next update!!

I'm all giddy for the Poly details. :yay: Not so giddy about the smell thing but I think I've experienced that smell before in older former smoking hotels.

Ahhh, I think I know what smell you are referring to now. Makes sense. It probably is smoke from years ago - they would have to rip down the walls to get it out I bet!

I sure wish all Disney rooms were as big as the Poly!

I last left you as I was slipping out of a dark hotel room, leaving all my loved one snoring softly behind me. Part of why I couldn't go back to sleep... as soon as I woke up, my first thought was "I could get early morning Poly pictures!!" I had been following along hstricklands Poly TR for weeks, looking at all her pictures and she got up many mornings before everyone else, and slipped out and enjoyed the Poly all to herself, just her and her camera. That's what I wanted to do!! And I knew that this morning would be a good morning to do it, as we had plans most every other day.

I set out, with just my camera, KTTW card and cell phone. I didn't have any pockets in my yoga pants so I grabbed my yet to be packed park bag and headed toward the dock from our room.

The humidity hit me as soon as I stepped out of our building. I'm used to heat in Texas, but the Austin area is not nearly as humid. It was around 8:15am by this time and probably already in the high 80s. Toto we're not in January anymore.

I headed straight to the Volcano Pool... Gorgeous ! Dash was gonna love that slide! He had taken a brief peak the night before but we hadn't walked down beside it yet.

044.jpg

I noticed all the CMs doing their morning cleaning so I snapped a picture of that too...

045.jpg

Another angle of the Volcano Pool.

Next I walked toward the dock to Magic Kingdom. A boat was just leaving. I smiled at all the families heading toward rope drop.

047.jpg

Beach with Grand Floridian in the back ground. Pictures really do not do it justice.

048.jpg

The pool bar...had to take the picture because of the use of "cousins" on the sign.

Drink menu. I had plans for indulging in one of these babies later in the trip.

The marina at the Poly. All the boats lined up, cleaned and ready to go.

Looking back at the Poly beach and Hawaii Longhouse from the MK dock.

056.jpg

I was surprised at the number of spider webs on the ropes along the dock. Maybe Disney is leaving them to catch bugs??

Another shot of Hawaii Longhouse.

By this point I was getting hungry so I headed toward

059.jpg

060.jpg

I found this guy on the walk way... his wing was bent a little bit. Didn't seem to bother him any though.

061.jpg

Waterfall at the beginning of the stream to the Volcano Pool

I went into Boutiki and enjoyed looking around as much as I wanted to, taking my time, not worrying about the boys grabbing things off the wall! It was wonderful!

062.jpg

Snapped a pic of these babies to try to remind myself to pick some up later in the trip! They looked YUMMY!

I headed upstairs next to check out the shops and different angles of the atrium.

063.jpg

Check out the line for Ohana at 8:45am.

065.jpg

Looking down into the atrium from the 2nd floor

By this point my stomach was demanding food... my 1/3rd of a Turkey Club and Dole Whip from 2am were GONE!

So I headed to Captain Cooks, ordered using the nifty new touch screen system and found a table by the window that was miraculously empty. IT was crazy in there! Thankfully though, there weren't many parties of 1 so I was able to find a table with just 1 chair and I snagged it.

I had to leave my bag on the table to hold it so I could get my breakfast when the pager went off and again for a refill. Things you take for granted when you have people to leave at the table. I took my camera and phone and KTTW with me... I was scared to leave them but I left my bag and coke sitting there and it was fine.

067.jpg

My very first slice of Tonga toast.

I decided I should eat some protein with all that sugar. I ordered a kid's meal... which was eggs, bacon and grapes and came with a drink! It worked out really well and I think the CM gave me a larger drink than I think she was supposed to. I put the grapes in my bag to take them back to the boys.

068.jpg

Kid's breakfast

069.jpg

Inside of the Tonga Toast

I really liked the Tonga Toast itself but the bananas not so much. I ended up pulling them out and eating around them. I knew this was a possibility because I really don't like overly ripe bananas. I still enjoyed the toast though and ate most of it. The eggs on the kid's breakfast were the best QS eggs I've had at Disney and I like Disney bacon so I was a happy girl. I took my time, typing up trip notes on my Droid and just kept smiling. I was in my happy place, it was a new experience for me to be alone and I was enjoying myself!

I finished my breakfast, bused my table (some people weren't busing) refilled my drink one more time and headed to the lobby.

I sat down in one of those comfy chairs and just soaked up Poly goodness. It was wonderful. I texted my BFF some back and forth, who was finally awake on Texas time. Texted my oldest sister some, checked in on my middle sister who had been having all the health concerns and just people watched. I had a wonderful morning. I was in a fabulous mood and ready to take on the rest of my day.

I finally headed back to the room around 9:45am. The wake up call was supposed to go off at 11am.

I laid back down, thought I might dose off but never did. I was officially wired and the sugar and caffeine from breakfast certainly weren't helping the cause any.

I think this was when I looked up Golden Oaks on my phone and posted on my PTR about it. I eventually turned on Stacey on low and turned on one of the torch lamps on the bed. Loved them because they had dimmers.

Soon enough it was 11am and the phone rang. I answered it and looked over to see Jack Jack sit straight up in bed and smile at me across the room. He knew he was in Mickey's house!!

Up next: Lunch for 5 please! Somebody's tired and it's not Me! Transportation Galore!

STAY TUNED!!!!!

What a great update! I don't think there is anything more beautiful that early morning resort pictures....there is just something so peaceful and wonderful about them...

That tonga toast looks delish:rolleyes1 Love how Jack Jack sat straight up with a big smile....Disney magic at it's best:wizard:

Thanks!! I loved my early morning photo snapping walk! I may have to try for one on each trip!

The tonga toast was yummy!!

Jack Jack sat up like that most mornings. It was really cute. He definitely was feeling the magic this time!

I just love your picture taking! You seem to always notice the little things and capture the stuff that I agree is interesting/funny/important (whatever it happens to be). Part of the reason I LOVE reading your TR's.

I'm so envious of your alone time. DH gets to do that a bit sometimes on trips because he's more of a morning person than I am. I NEED my sleep so I don't rip his head off later in the day (yeah, I'm THAT much of a grouch on low sleep) but I like the IDEA of slipping out earlyish in the morning and checking things out all by myself.

I know this is OT, but can I ask you what the temps were like for you when you went in January? Just starting my research!!

just found your trip report and subscribing - your title hooked me in! Love having a little along time on family vacations - your pictures of the Poly are great ... someday I'll get my Disney resistant hubby to stay there! Can't wait to read more:)

Great update! I love those pictures with no people around! It's so rare!

Tonga Toast looks great - I'm with you about the overly ripe bananas. I'm glad you can get them out easily.

I have to read your PTR more closely. Lucky you!! Do you have an AP?
