Ok, i am 39 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I am so ready to have this baby at this point, but i don't think it's ever going to happen. I understand that the full moon starts tonight. Do the stories hold any truth that the full moon causes women to go into labor? :confused3

YES YES YES!! And I speaking as someone who works in the baby business, the moon and barometric pressure will do it. I had my baby at the day after the full moon. The moon makes people crazy and go into labor. Congrats!!!

Yes. My step mom's thesis involved full moon phenomena. Good luck!!!! Have some rasberry tea while you are at it!

i have heard about the raspberry tea and the caster oil (don't know if i could do the oil though...lol). Thanks guys!!!! keep your fingers crossed. This little boy needs to come out!!! :rotfl2:

I have also been told by people in the know, that it is true. Good luck!

Didn't do a darn thing for me. The full moon was around the 39 week mark, but dd didn't budge until 42 weeks 1 day.

Man, I know THAT feeling. I tried castor oil, fish oil, White Castles, whoopie (including whoopie DURING a full moon), Mexican food...

Nothing worked for me. I went five days over and was finally induced.

Tried the white castles last weekend, all that did was make me sick...lol. I completely forgot about spicy food. maybe i'll see if DH wants to go tonight!!!

I'm not sure about the full moon, but my best friend SWEARS by Olive Garden salad dressing!

A couple people I know ate pineapple and went into labor. Grapes worked for some as well. If these don't work they at least won't hurt the baby.

I've seen many full moons come and go during my pregnancies, and was induced every time (except for my c/s with my twins). I tried raspberry LEAF tea (you drink it throughout your pregnancy, BTW - it doesn't start labor, but is supposed to strengthen your uterus, to make labor more productive), evening primrose oil, castor oil, trampoline, walking, washing floors, sex, spicy food - you name it, I tried it. Yep, even the breast pump. I was 42 weeks pregnant when #1 was finally born (the day after a FAILED inducement - overnight cervadil, a whole day on pitocin - and they sent me home).

I don't know about the full moon, but hurricanes do! I had dd during a hurricane. The birthing center at the hospial got so full they had women waiting in the halls. As soon as I delivered they moved me to a regular room in the hospital as the maternity ward was so crowded. Their were 26 babies born in a 24 hour period (two sets of twins).

The reasoon this old wives tale exists is the same reason the tale about people going mad on the night of the full moon exists. When there's a beautiful full moon out, like there is right now, people are more likely to be awake and active at night. This is especially true in less developed societies with little or no electric lighting. Combine this with the fact that, in general, mammals prefer to birth at night when it's easier to hide a female's complete vulnerability during labor and their bodies are designed to accomodate this. Now, you're up late...walking around or having intimate relations (which if nothing else will widen the passageway)...at a time when you're already primed for birth....viola!

So, my suggestion?

Have a glass of wine tonight with your husband (it's not going to hurt anything at this stage, but it will relax your muscles). Go for a walk in the moonlight. Try to have some intimate relations. And then pray for labor to begin, because these actions are still just about as likely to induce as anything else.

Best of luck.

The homespun wisdom around here is that taking a ride on a bumpy road helps. :confused3

We are always busier during a full moon. Hey, if the ocean's tides are affected by the moon, then why can't the moon affect a little amniotic fluid? I know there is logic in there somewhere.:rotfl:

Unfortunately what works for some people, doesn't for others. These babies often have their own ideas about when to be born.

Best of luck.:goodvibes

Go to Wal Mart!! :rotfl: My 2 best friends from HS both went into labor the night after they went to Wal Mart. I wan't at 40 weeks yet, but went to Wal Mart with DH one evening (I was 38 weeks exactly), and 3 hours later, we were at the hospital. Worked for us!

i have heard about the raspberry tea and the caster oil (don't know if i could do the oil though...lol). Thanks guys!!!! keep your fingers crossed. This little boy needs to come out!!! :rotfl2:

4 oz Orange Juice
1 Tablespoon mineral oil
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Mix well. You won't even taste or feel the oil
DH's aunt was head of the nurses association for our state for years and years. This was her tried and true method to induce labor. It only works if you and your baby are completely ready though.

No idea. I was born under a full moon, though. 2 weeks late.
