I am a single Mom to dd 7 and ds 5. I live in Ottawa. This was supposed to be my kid free week-end.. but my ex canceled..yep canceled on Father's day week-end.

Another web site that the OP could try is capitalcupid.com I have been surfing the dating web sites... but really I have no time to date... but I can understand that missing having someone to share things with.

Found some great deals for flights out of Rochester this fall and was hoping to go for free dining this year, but I just cannot see being able to handle the 2 kids by myself at disney... do kids magically mature in a year...hahahhaha

I have to tell you I agree with the other posters...take the kids and do Disney...it is probably the best place to be a single parent. Last summer we went to Disney and dh had to leave early due to ... what else...work! I was terrified...I was going to be a long way from home by myself with the girls. (did I mention that my youngest is autistic and prone to seizures!!!) And to top it all of the last day of our trip Hurricane Faye was coming in fast and furious. Well we had a fabulous time and everyone was super duper helpful! I have never been more relaxed doing things on my own with the girls.

I was scared to travel out of the county by myself so the first time I went to Disney with my DS, my best friend came and took her daughter. That gave me the confidence to go by ourselves the next year and it was great!!! My son is 13 now, but was 11 the first time we went.

I say go, go, disney is an awesome place to go if you are a single parent.

bigturkey12: I don't have children, but I took my then 12yo nephew to Disney World a few years back. I felt completely safe with him. We both tried to be aware of our surroundings at all times, but we enjoyed it. I remember when he was talking to my sister (his mom) on the phone and I had gone to get us something from the food court. I told him to deadbolt the door, and flip the metal thing over it. I knew I would not be able to get in when I got back. I knocked and she freaked when he said "I'll be right back, Tina's at the door." He was fine with being in the room alone and I was fine leaving him there.

Oh I am not worried about safety or anything..more about being able to handle 2 kids alone.. especially 1 child who is a handful.. to put it mildly!

Oh and an update..seems that miracles do happen.. ds is 40 inches!!!

I took my 9 yr old son and twin 5 yr old girls in May. We had a blast, and are already planning for next year's trip.

The key to keeping the kids happy is planning out the trip. I pre-booked all the meals, and planned each day around what I knew my kids liked, and that we'd end up near where dinner was. Also, with multiple kids, plan bathroom breaks. "I know you don't have to go, but go anyways." I must have said that a thousand times that week, but it beats running around looking at the last minute.

For us personally the dining plan worked out, but it's not for everyone. Also, set a strict $$ amount for souvenirs, as it's way to easy to go overboard.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend single parents taking their kids. After all, where would a kid be there best at if not at Disney World? How mad can they get at you?

thanks for the encouraging words. we went to wdw in feb 2009 with 7 other family members. with the cruise in 2010 my son just wants it to be the 2 of us
i have always stayed within the atlantic provinces when it was just the 2 of us. he says come on mom we can do this together and i know we can and it will be a memory we wil share the rest of our lives. he is getting older now 14 so i need to take advantage of this trip that he wants it to be just the 2 of us these words of encouragement are great you did it with 3 i can do it with one. thanks again

I agree, it is nerve racking, esp going across the border (well for me anyway) just me with the kids...But I always have a travel letter from the ex!

I've gone solo with the dd now 18, (off to university in the fall), and ds now 14 for the last six or seven years every february or march, depend on the disney deal dates and their school calendar. it can be done, the key i found was not to rush around too much. just kinda chill out and fit the odd new thing in every year. this time it was breakfast with mickey and the gang

I say take advantage of the time now!! The first time we all went to Disney with my friend and her daughter, my son was miserable. And DO I MEAN MISERABLE!!! My thought was, how can this child be grumpy and miserable at DISNEY!! Like what the heck!! I really swore to myself, never again.

The second time however, he was good as gold, and it was a real bonding time for us. No mood swings, no attitude, it was awesome.

We had a much better time the second time, just the two of us, even though it was not all new to us.

I love traveling with my kids. Its been 4 years now on just our own "three mouskateers!) My kids were 2 and 6 when my ex husband left. Since then we've travelled (just the 3 of us) alot. We've flown to Disney 2 times, Fort Lauderdale -once, chicago-once and drove to chicagao 2 more times, Minnesota-once, Toronto and Niagara falls too. We travel across the border monthly and knock on wood I've never had a problem. The kids each have their own responsibilities when we travel (they each take care of their own luggage). We've made so many great memories!

BTW nice to see so many more Canadian Singles here-everyone seems so nice on DISBoards!

Has anyone tried/had experience with/know someone who did have experience with eharmony.ca? Or other ways of meeting online? Or of trying to get out and meet people in person?

Hi I live in the Thousand Islands region. I agree with you that POF is disaster, I have paid eharmony on several occasions, and have liked the concept, the only issue I had with their service based on profile, is that most of the men seem to be from larger city centres like Ottawa, Toronto or Montreal, or live down in the states, I live 2+ hours away, I think over three months, I maybe had 4 mens matched that were withing 50 km of my home. I am not looking for long distance, eharmony does not allow one to search the whole database, as they choose for you. I have found that everyone's results will be different, as their areas of compatibility and matching is base on how much you answer in your profile.

I would like to add that I am a single mother of three wonderful children, and have travel to Disney 4 times, and had a wonderful time, Disney is a great place to go as a single parent. I went on a Disney cruise a few years back and was happy to find that each day they had activities inboard for singles. It was a great holiday.

No Problem, I see you are a road tripper as well. I myself travel frequently with the kids across the border to shop down in Watertown or Syracuse, whenever we fly, we fly of Syracuse, as the flight cost are SO much less and DIRECT to Orlando, I driven with the kids to Ottawa, Toronto, and road trips to Virginia Beach.
