So...is there a Canadian Singles Thread over here?

Here is a question, that I have been thinking about an awful lot lately. Well first let me start with this:
I was separated in May 2006, and FINALLY after lengthy legal nonsense, am divorced as of April this year. :O)

I often find myself wanting to be able to share things with someone special, but I do nothing about it, sadly. However, I am thinking about it more and more, and wanting it more and more and feel that the time has come TO do something!

So that said. I was on Plenty of Fish once for a short time 2 years ago. What a disaster. But now I am wondering maybe it is time to try something like that again?

Has anyone tried/had experience with/know someone who did have experience with eharmony.ca? Or other ways of meeting online? Or of trying to get out and meet people in person?

I've done lavalife, match.com, POF, and tried eharmony but didn't want to pay $60 for it. Then when I was going to pay for it, I got way too confused by it. I find that site hard to negotiate. Like when you want to delete people it makes you tell them why.

I just recently met someone on POF. We've been dating for 3 months, which is actually the longest I've ever dated someone since my DH passed away 8 1/2 years ago. I've thought I wanted to meet someone new, but I'm afraid now that I've been single so long, I wouldn't know how to integrate someone into my life. But all we can do is keep trying I guess.

Good luck on Eharmony!

Hi! I'm mainly a lurker, because I don't have much to add. I haven't been to Disney since 1984 with my family, but I'm going late next year. My mom has decided to take all the grandkids when they are 8. There's no way I'm letting them go without me. lol!

I'm a single mom of 2 (7 and 3), and I've loved Disney since 1984! I plan to take both kids myself in 2012 (I hope I'll have someone to go with by then, but not counting on it), then a solo trip for my 40th birthday a few years after that!

Hi
I am a single Mom to dd 7 and ds 5. I live in Ottawa. This was supposed to be my kid free week-end.. but my ex canceled..yep canceled on Father's day week-end.

Another web site that the OP could try is capitalcupid.com I have been surfing the dating web sites... but really I have no time to date... but I can understand that missing having someone to share things with.

Found some great deals for flights out of Rochester this fall and was hoping to go for free dining this year, but I just cannot see being able to handle the 2 kids by myself at disney... do kids magically mature in a year...hahahhaha

hi 2forme! thank you for the link.

I am sure you can handle the kids. Mine too can be a handful, but I am looking forward to this! I have gone from scared poopless and asking my friend and her family to join, or my brother and his girlfriend to join us; to actually hoping it is just the 3 of us!

but it is true, they do mature magically in a year! I am sorry that he cancelled on them, it must be hard for them to understand that.

All my friends and relatives thought I was crazy taking my 3 kids to WDW by myself, but it turned out great. After all, where else would you expect a kid to be better behaved?

I say go anyways, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I hope its okay for me to post here. I am not single (anymore) but was! Like a previous poster said it took a while before I was ready to put myself out there after a seperation/divorce....ds was 9 at the time.

I loved Disney and spent a lot of time here on the boards. On the adults only board there was a singles meet thread and I started to hang out there. I had a sense (maybe a little false--there were some weirdos even on the dis!) of security on this site.

Shortly after joining the thread, I met the most incredible man (and my now husband!). He lived in Winnipeg, we started pm'ing, and then emailing and eventually graduated to the phone. After a couple of months we met in person and hit it off. After several months he made the "big move" and to make a long story short we were engaged at Disney, and the next year we were married in Disney!!!

Its been almost 2 years since my fairytale wedding day....the moral of the story is you never know when, where or how love will strike. Our beginning may not have been "traditional" but I couldn't be happier. I knew I wouldn't settle for anything less than a great man for both me and my son -I never could have imagined just how amazing life would be when I found him!!

Now, as you were!! Just thought I would post a positive story to show that it is possible to find true love on the internet (and maybe even the dis!!).

tmil, that's an awesome story! My friends always hope i'll find someone who is as crazy about Disney as I am. Sounds like you found the perfect guy!

Wow it seems all the single women are in Ottawa! I am from Hamilton and have wondered about trying internet dating but am very weary.

Also a single mom with a 2 year old little man. Find it very hard to meet new people, especially with a 2 year old, and my ex lives in VA and makes it up here to spend a weekend with our son every 4-6 weeks.... have kinda started going on dates, but just don't have the time to the energy for a relationship right now :( lol

Well I am hoping that my little ds not only matures a bit in 1 year.. but grows too!! His is a little guy not even 40 inches yet...and dd is tall. Go figure:laughing: I would want ds to be tall enough to go on most of the bigger rides... as dd loves Big Thunder mountain etc... although actually not sure how that would work since we could not fit 3 people on at the same time.. oh well have plenty of time to think about it!

tmli, that is a wonderful story! CONGRATULATIONS! And a disney wedding to boot!!! :O) I like hearing positive stories :O)

Keep the posts coming!!! I am going to be off line for a bit, I am using my brother's computer right now. My monitor died....long story short, I tried to replace it, and only available is a widescreen. My not quite 3 year old computer is not able to handle it, (an hour with HP yesterday on the phone. ugh). and I can't find a 'square' screen anywhere. and a new computer is not in the budget. Hopefully a repair/used place that I know of can help me tomorrow. Until then....cheers!!!

If you are still checking, have you tried freecycle? Often people are looking to give away older monitors (the big fat ones not the LCD's). And all you have to do is pick it up. Very handy.

Can't believe I have missed this thread. I am a single mom of 2 (ds-13, dd-10) and I run my own daycare. I have been a Disney nut since my fifth birthday when I got to go to Disneyland. My kids are pretty much with me 24/7 and the dating thing was a hard thing to consider with all their needs, but because they are getting older, the possibilities are now opening up. I hope to be going to WDW for Halloween and back again next Christmas. And when I win the lottery (yeah - right ! lol) I plan on a DVC membershhip in the next 2 years.
 Maybe we should do a Canadian Singles DisMeet in Toronto or something like that ????

It could be I am the oldest single here at 52 (and female), but hey, a get together in Toronto would be fun.

This is exactly how I feel. I would like to have someone in my life, I just am scared to even take the initial steps to do so!! Weird, huh?

Single mom of 3 DS15 DD's 4&7 Toronto area

When I go to WDW I bring my brother for my son to hang out with and my mom for a little help with the girls.

I do go a lot of places with them alone but the teen suffers cause he doesn't like little girl stuff (don't blame him)

Go to college and work plus have the kids 24/7 so not much dating going on here

A meet and greet in TO would be cool :grouphug:

There is a DISboards meet happening in Hamilton on the weekend before Halloween that you may be interested in. boundfordisney has so kindly offered to hold it at her house and we are having a potluck Disney meal. It is not a "singles" meet (couples, families, kids) but it is open to people who would like to attend. I am single, myself, and I plan on taking my 2 kids. Check out the following thread - at least you can meet other Disney loving people !!! :grouphug:
