Soooo my plans have evolved again... Now I'm thinking we will stay in LA 3 nights and do the 2 Disney parks. Don't want to stay onsite at DL so can anyone recommend a nice hotel nearby...that doesn't have Bed Bugs?! Was thinking about Del Sol or..? don't know. I want something cheap and cheerful but clean and a comfortable (bug free) bed. And walking distance. Did I mention no bed bugs

Aliceacc, champagne tastes and a beer budget is the story of my life! LOL

So now it looks like:

10th - arrive LA
11th - DL
12th - DCA
13th -Las Vegas (hire car)
14th - Las Vegas
15th - Grand Canyon
15th - Grand Canyon
17th - Drive to Phoenix, fly to Orlando (does this seem doable??)
17th - 28th - WDW
29 - Universal
30 - Universal
31st - Home

Hi!!

Maybe think of less Grand Canyon more Vegas. You will have a hire car and can do a day trip to the canyon. 11 days at Disney is a lot. If you are
Going to do the premium outlets, they are closer to universal, so maybe more days there if that is something you want to do.

I agree. We did the same thing on our trip to the US.

If you're arriving late on the train into Washington, I would recommend taking a cab to your hotel unless it is very close to the train station.

We arrived in Washington by train quite late, probably around 9/10pm, and the streets were empty except for a number of homeless people who would randomly follow us for 100 to 500 metres asking for money. They were harmless, but it was a bit of a nuisance when it was late, we were tired, we were lugging around our bags and we had never been to Washington before.

I also completely agree about the train from Washington to NYC. It's awesome being able to go to Union station 30mins before your train and walk straight on. Red caps are very helpful too as for a tip they will board you early and carry your luggage and as I was travelling by myself this was very helpful! Arriving at Penn station is great too as all the airports are far out and can cost up to $70 in taxi's if you get bad traffic (which is all the time in NYC). I spent a few days in Washington and really enjoyed but saw all I needed to see ie. Museums in those few days. Take comfy walking shoes as the museums and monuments are much further from each other then it seems!

So after some discussions last night I think we have made some decisions about our trip and it looks like Disney is out. While I'm a little bit sad, I'll still be able to get my Disney merchandise fix at the store at Citadel and in Times Square, and I will be able to get my Dole Whip too because...we are now going to Hawaii! So at the moment the itinerary looks like it will be a couple of days in LA, mainly to go shopping, Boston, New York (about 10 days) and DC (order of those 3 still to be confirmed) then Hawaii on the way home!

So...I know I said that Disney was out of the equation for our trip next year, but we've thought about it and decided it would be physically impossible for us to be less than 30 minutes from the happiest place on earth and not pay it a visit, even just for a couple of days!

Zosha i disagree with Burne99 - a one day trip out to the canyon by car and back is a very long day trip , you spend most of the day driving. Much better to stay out there, warch the sunset, get up early for sunrise, do an early morning walk before the crowds etc. As to Phoenix to Orlando, we did the reverse, flew O to P, hired car from P, drove to GC thence to Vegas. Only some flights stop in Phoenix so check your airlines. I think we did O to P leg with South West (free luggage allowance).

Never too early! I'm planning our 2017 trip already Have to wait until our youngest is tall enough for rides (and won't cause too much havoc on the flights). We are taking 5 weeks and driving from LA to Orlando and doing a WBW cruise for the first time! Will be watching everyone's planning threads with interest.

We are allowing a couple of weeks to take in all the sights (and theme parks) along the way. Tossing up to go LA to Orlando or if we fly into Orlando and drive back to LA. Either way we get to do both WDW and DL
