I've got a bag of Scott's grass seed. It says it's for high traffic areas and works best in sunny or light shade.

What the heck is light shade?

All of my shade is DARK!

If my shade was light, it wouldn't be shade, now would it?

I've got some LAMP shades, but I don't want to turn my lamps into Chia pets.

I think there's a marketing person at the Scott's corporation who's having some fun with me....

And why are you "over" seeding instead of underseeding?!?! If it is "light" shade, maybe that's what you need to do!

Some sun definitions that might help.

Full Sun. At least six hours of direct sunlight (between 10am to 6pm).

Light Shade. About six hours of direct sunlight (total) or lightly dappled shade throughout the day.

Partial Shade. (Also called half-shade, medium-shade, semi-shade, or partial-sun) About four to six hours of direct sunlight (total) or moderately dappled shade throughout the day.

Full Shade. Less than four hours of direct sunlight (total) or heavily dappled shade throughout the day.

Sounds like some shady characters over at Scotts creating a market. In the spring I found Home Depot selling Goldenrod for $5 a pot!


After I spent the better part of the day over/under, around and through seeding with whatever I had. I found a big bag of "fall seed" DH bought. I think I'll switch. Heck, I don't care as long as it's green and it grows.
