Is the Galactic Spectacular show worth it?

I've read that this is mostly a laser/projection type show and heavily themed around the SW movies. I was 17 back in 1977 and saw the original film waaaaay too many times while on dates. It's just not my kind of thing and I never saw another.

Is it mostly projections? I love Wishes but haven't bothered with Illuminations in years.

Do you need an understanding of Star Wars to enjoy the show?

Is it one of those things you need so grap a spot for way in advance? I'm pretty short but hate standing around by myself, especially if it's cold. My trip is solo and at the end of January.

I have not seen it. I have seen bits and pieces here and there. Yes, it is going to be heavily Star Wars related. If you are concerned, head to Youtube to watch a video. From there you can decide if it is your cup of tea.

Yes, it is heavily Star Wars based. But you absolutely don't need to be a big fan of the series to enjoy the show. My wife doesn't like Star Wars, and I'm only very casually interested and we loved it. There are lots of projections, but they're clips from the movies, not a full story per se. There are plenty of fireworks, lasers, etc...to keep you entertained, even if you don't care about the clips. Definitely check it out. Worst case scenario is you don't like it and you can at least say you tried.

I'm not a fan of Star Wars but I loved the show- I was very impressed by the whole thing! It was so different from all the other shows, I will go to it again this summer it was that good

We were there in December and watched all the shows at HS (Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam, A Galaxy far, far away, Galactic Spectacular, March of the First Order, Fantasmic). I have only watched the original 3 movies and still enjoyed all the star wars-themed shows. Your enjoyment definitely depends on where you stand though for this show as there are two tall trees which will block your view of the fireworks, but not the projection. We decided the projection was more important as fireworks are fireworks no matter where you are in Disney.

Would y'all recommend the Dessert Party? I do enjoy a cocktail (or two) and if it made for a better view without my commandeering my spot hours beforehand it might be worth it. I wouldn't be comfortable sharing a table though.

I am only a very casual Star Wars fan. DW even less so. And DD (21) really not at all. We all thought that Galactic Spectacular was one of the best shows Disney has ever done - ever. My wife, who rarely posts stuff like this to Facebook, went on immediately after the show and posted how that show is pure Disney magic at it's best.

Just keep in mind that it is NOT a fireworks show. There are a few fireworks shot off during the show but it is just as an accent. It is not Wishes or Illuminations in terms of the amount of fireworks involved.

I've been twice, once solo and once with my grown son. I saw the first three when they came out and saw the first of the Disney ones (haven't seen Rouge One yet) and sort of enjoyed it. I'm also height challenged and both times had pretty bad experiences with people getting in front of me at the last minute. The first time I got there about a hour early and was sitting on the ground reading, a great CM came and told me "honey you aren't going to be able to see from there" and took me by the hand and led me to a great spot. A number of people around me and myself all agreed to leave a small space in front of me vacant in case some kids needed it or other short people showed up and that way I could see. Worked great until about 5 min. before the show when two very large (tall and wide) men showed up and got right in front of me. Second time with my son we got there about 45 min. early, got a great spot behind a row of wheel chairs thinking I could see over the wheel chairs and my son stood behind me. Again, about 5 min. before the show two large men came and wedged themselves between the two wheel chairs that were in a row. The poor woman in the wheel chair in front of me was able to stand on one foot and kind of lean on her chair but, of course, both the men and her blocked me. I was able to kind of lean out over the forbidden line and see one side. In hindsight I should have stood in front of her and told her I would move when it started, thus reserving the spot so no one could get in front of us. My son enjoyed it but said it was a one and done sort of thing for him and he's seen all the movies. He did explain all the back story of the 3 I didn't see to me so I understood it.

I have seen all the movies because DH and ours boys love star wars. I am not a fan. The show is well done, but I wouldn't bother again unless my boys were with me. Just not really for me. Also not an illuminations fan.

Not a star wars fan though I know the main characters. I did both the dessert party and the show. The dessert party isn't overly star wars imo. It's held in the launch bay and has star wars themed food and drinks but if you look at it as a way to get desserts and a spot for the show its good. You don't have to wander around the launch bay, I didn't. And a vanilla cupcake is still a vanilla cupcake even with r2d2 on it.

I also thought it was cool that the storm troopers walked us to the viewing area. My friend enjoyed it so much she's going again this weekend but she's a star wars fan. However I wouldn't hesitate in doing it again either.

Can I recommend maybe seeing another movie from the series? Just to make sure?

The things I liked and didn't like at 17 aren't something I live my life by lol. And seeing movies with casual dates (or non casual but irritating) can cause an overlay of those people onto the movie. I can't think of American Tale or The Mission without think if Raoul....sigh. And I can't think of Phantom Menace (if you're going to take my advice do NOT watch that one!!!) without thinking of the doofus I (thought I) was dating at the time lol.

I agree that the show is awesome but I really think it's a misnomer to call it a fireworks show. If you go expecting to see a lot of fireworks, you're going to be disappointed. There are very few.

True. I wouldn't say it's the best show, as Fantasmic, IMO, is the best "show" but the use of the projections combined with the fireworks makes it pretty darn awesome!
