How long will the celebration last? I'd really like to plan a trip- just so long to wait!

Was it the 50th that was the year of a million dreams? I hope they do more stuff like that! It was great!!!

Anyone else planning???

I agree. We are living on the west coast for the next 4 years and a trip to DL is on our must do list. Was planning on Feb 2015...but now considering postponing to Feb 2016 to catch the tail end of the 60th birthday celebration : )

Guessing the celebrations would last a year? I have heard rumours of a nighttime parade, but not much else.

Do you think it's going to make the parks busier? I'm kind of an off season parks girl- I like to go when it's not busy!!!! And I'd really like to see it decorated for Christmas....so maybe early December??? What do you think?? Think there will be hotel specials?

I'm planning on late July or early August 2015. My DS15 will turn 16 on July 17, 2015 but I'm afraid the crazy crowds will take all the fun out of that day so we are going to go later.

The busiest times to go are late November and the whole month of December.. There will be very little hotel discounts if any, as this is peak season! Your best bet is to wait until January and go then before they take all the Christmas decorations down. If you're really set on going the month of December you can try a weekday: Tuesday or Wednesday and you might get lucky.

I do think the 60th events will make the parks busier, but I don't know for how long after summer. I certainly expect to see a bump in the spring and summer crowds, but whether it'll continue into the fall and winter depends on what they do regarding Halloween and the Holidays.

When you say "off-season", what do you mean specifically? I ask because December is kind of an odd month. The week of Thanksgiving is usually very busy and then it drops off. Crowds build up throughout the month of December, with very high crowds the week of Christmas and New Years. I've gone both the first and second week of December and there was a noticeable difference. The first week in December was pretty manageable, with not bad crowds on the weekdays. The second week was okay on the weekdays, but the crowds were pretty substantial on the weekend (Fri to Sun). So if you are thinking of going in December, I would aim for as early in the month as possible. Mid-November would also be a possibility because the Holiday decor should be up, but the crowds aren't really huge.

Well, I can go anytime, it's just whether I decide to take my kids! Lol! I can go during the week, and I'd go early in the month!

The busiest time we went was in May, and the quietest was February.

I think it won't be bad to go early in December- well I'm hoping, anyway. I'm thinking fly in on a Saturday or Sunday, spend 4-5 days at the park. Most days will be week days!

I was there for the 50th during the summer, and if I recall, it was pretty bearable crowd-wise. I don't know how much demographics have changed over the last decade at DL though.

If I recall, the 50th lasted from March 2005 through September 2005, with limited merchandise available only for the first couple of months.

If they premiere a new nighttime parade/fireworks/castle show as especulated, they aren't going anywhere after 2015. You may miss the special decorations though.

When is the celebration supposed to start? We are planning on being there beginning of April.

The crowds on July 17, 2005 were quite tolerable. The hardcore "fans" were only there for merchandise and the ceremony at the castle. The tourists seemed to stay away. Reports from back then were that Universal was VERY busy on July 17. Now the 16th and the 18th were a different story, as DLR was quite busy on both days.

The 50th anniversary celebration began on May 5, 2005, and continued through September, 2006. In contrast, the 40th anniversary was much busier than the 50th. I was there for both, as well as last week's 59th. I think it's fair to say that next year's anniversary will be extremely busy. I believe Disneyland will throw a 60-hour party over that weekend.

We went on the birthday this year and they mentioned it would start in the spring. I wish we could go next year also, but I think it was special enough to celebrate my sons 5th birthday and Disneylands this year.

We'd planned on going for the 50th and then I changed my mind. We had three little ones and I wanted to spend the money on other things!

We went to DLR in April and we're going again in October. I don't think we'll be going to DLR for the 60th because we're taking a Disney cruise December 2015. I hope they do something on the cruise ships! That would be pretty neat!

So...are the birthday/anniversary celebration years MUCH more exciting than non-birthday/anniversary years? For us, this will most likely be a once-lifetime trip to DL (been to WDW 10+ times), and I wanted to go this Feb, boys will be almost 5 and 9 (great ages...getting older too fast), because we can, and you never know what may come up...but I love a party : ) Planning on going President's Week (Sunday-Friday) as the kids have the week off. I'm sure Monday will be packed, but hoping for 'lighter than summer' days the rest of the week. Any input? Thanks! The more I learn about Walt, the more I seek a trip to DL!
