and PLEASE tell me it gets better. Pretty Please?

I am only done with episode two and honestly if it weren't for the fact that everybody raves about the show and it DID get some emmy nominations, I would've bailed by now.

I have no problem with any "deviations" from the book. It's the God awful accents, and the terrible stilted acting. The girl who plays Tara...did they find her acting in a high school play somewhere?? Yeesh she's bad.

The only bright spot is Steven Moyer's "smoldering". If I get to see him naked I'll keep chugging along.

Anna Paquin's hackneyed performance will only be tolerable much longer if something exciting happens soon or the plot starts to wake up.

So tell me...is it worth sticking it out, or should I pull the plug? I liked the books.

Sorry to tell you, but IMHO the first season is the best. DH loves it and I just can't. It gets stranger and stranger, and bloodier and bloodier. There is alot of nakedness from various people.

It is funny, because in my opinion, the best southern accent is from the guy that plays Sookie's brother and he is from Australia. Being from the south I get really offended by fake southern accents, which is one reason that I can't stomach the Closer, even though I love Kera Sedgewick(or however you spell her name) but her accent is just unforgivable.

I watched the first couple of episodes but got bored. The nakedness and sex scenes freaked me out and made me feel like I was watching porn.

Funny, I think the third season has been the best (barring any extreme variation in the finale). I do agree on the stranger and bloodier for the most part... I think S2 is the worst for that though.

But OP, if you don't really like it now, it's probably just not for you. The overall... everything... of it doesn't really change.

I hated it. To me, it is one of the worse shows on television. Obviously, a lot of people don't agree with me, but then again I always hated 24, Lost, and Friends.

I guess I don't like what is popular.

I just started watching because my friends said it's great.

I wasn't all that impressed with the first few episodes. I thought it started getting good in the episode with the funeral. I'm not sure which one that was, but I think it was the 5th episode or so.

I still haven't finished season 1.

But unlike you, I like Tara. I think Bill always looks like he needs a shower.

I will say, I love it now, and always have, but I think it still grows on me as time goes on. I HATE the books, though.

I WANT to like it. I really do! Mostly because everyone else seems to, particularly my sister who is up my butt to watch it. Then again she loves Sex and the City so her taste really is questionable.

Stephen's smoldering is what got me, too. He literally "glamoured" me as I was switching channels. Yes, you will see him nude. You will also see Eric nude, which is even better. :faint:

I agree. The third season is close. The second turned out to be ridiculous & atrocious.

You haven't watched porn if you think this is porn. (Not that you need to. :)) The nakedness does take time to get used to, though. I had to keep reminding myself, "This is HBO." Then, you get used to it, and when they show Eric now, it's kind of, "Oh, is that all they are going to show?" :( :lmao:

3 words that make it worth watching... Naked Alexander Skarsgaard. It is worth continuing just to see that. Trust me lol

Nope, do NOT need to watch porn lol. I was just like "..are all they going to do is have sex ?" before a real plot line happened.

Plenty more pics in that thread. :thumbsup2

I have NO problem with nakedness or sex (loved Nip/Tuck), but it certainly isn't enough to keep me watching any television show. I also have no problem with genuine porn...but I digress.

So basically, it is what it is, huh?

Feh.

I've not seen the show, but I did just download the first book (Dead after Dark I think?) I've not started it yet, but if I like the book, would I like the show?

I disliked the books but love the show.

The writing is edgy and clever and I think the acting is great other than some slip-ups with the accents every so often.

I bought the first season on iTunes and slogged through about 4 episodes before I finally decided if it was this much work to try and like it, it wasn't worth it.

I read the books and I enjoyed them. They were funny and light hearted and a decent little story to keep you reading.

I heard so much about the show, I gave it a try. I really hated the first episodes. They were so much different than the books....and I thought the acting was pretty bad at times. There wasn't a lot of action and if you read the books you kind of knew where the story was going and there were no real surprises.

Well I kept watching and now I am about episode 6 or 7 of season 2. I actually liked season 2 better than 1 so far. I am liking it better because I have given up that it will be like the books and there is way more action.
