So how long will AKL be available for purchase?

We are back on the DVC bandwagon, and are once again looking at looking into buying at AKL. We have not contacted our sales rep yet, it's been a little over a year, but I've been looking at it again since our last visit.

So anyway, while I realize they can be available through resale for a long time, how long do you think they will be available for purchase, "new", through Disney? I'm asking this, as our next trip is scheduled for next August, I know, I know, a year away, and I'm wondering if holding off until then to make a decision would be to long?

With that said, if we do decide to buy, I'd really like home base to be AKL. We love the resorts feel, and could honestly see being there regularly as home base. It also seems pretty reasonable points wise for the times we like to visit. (Generally August\September). As we like to go for at least 9-10 nights, 160 or so points would be about perfect I think.

TSMIII has a thread which has been tracking the number of AKV villas declared for the DVC (see http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1783357&page=7). Just last week Disney declared 20 more villas for the DVC, bringing the number of declared villas to 154 out of a planned total of 324. Last week's declaration was the first at AKV since November 2008, so you can see that AKV sales are slow compared to BLT. Unless Disney does something amazing to jumpstart sales at AKV, I suspect that it will still be selling AKV when you return to WDW in August 2010.

You may have several reasons why you want to wait until August 2010 to buy, but remember that prices may change between now and then. In late August my wife and I were discussing whether to buy an AKV add-on direct from Disney. At that time, the price was $93/point for 100-point add-ons. We finally contacted our Guide on 9/2/09, only to find that Disney had changed incentives on AKV and that a 100-point add-on was now $102/point.

Good luck on your decision!

Thanks for the info, and the thread link wdrl. I went through this a year ago when thinking this through, and I can't believe I'm doing it again. However, I think at least, this time, we are actually going to wind up buying. I'd love to buy before next August, but I'm waiting for some cash flow to come in first, and of course, to think things through "just a bit more".

Thanks again.

As with all earlier DVC resorts AKV will continue to be available for purchase directly through Disney even after it is declared sold-out; it may take a bit of waiting then ( sometimes a matter of days or as long as weeks/months ) for DVC to acquire the points you wish to purchase however and most likely there will not be any incentives offered on purchase.

Best wishes on your planning :goodvibes

I would be totally SHOCKED if AKV were sold out before next August. IMO, it isn't going to happen unless Disney gives it away.

Wait until you are ready. Of course, you can begin saving for the purchase right now if you need to. :)

I know you asked about "new" through Disney but in my opinion you should not rule out resale. Resale prices have gone down and it is really a no hassle process if you use a reputable agent. We bought resale through Jerry at the Timeshare Store (shamless plug) and everything went great. It took a few weeks longer but we saved a lot of money by not buying "new." Plus it was a loaded contract meaning it had a lot of points with it. I know it sounds like it but I'm not trying to sway you one way but just suggesting you look at all your options before spending all that money.
