I called CRO as soon as I read this post since I have ressies for 9 nights at the CBR in December. The woman who answered the phone said "WDW Travel Company, can I help you?" I made sure I was calling CRO, which she confirmed. I told her I heard a rumor about the CBR and she confirmed that it is closing for refurbishment. She then transferred me to a woman in Guest Services within CRO. This woman was so very nice and gave me the full poop, so here it is.

She confirmed that CBR was closing, due to "refurbishment". I questioned her on that since I knew from SeaSpray's posts that all of the rooms and buildings had just been redone. She confirmed that those were all done, but that CBR was being closed for refurbishments to the amenities. When I asked her what she meant, she said that they were refurbishing the Old Port Royale, the pools, etc. She said for them to shut these down while guests were present would be too much of a disruption to the guests, so they decided to shut the entire resort down while this was being done. She said that management informed the CRO staff of this this morning and designated a group of people solely responsible to contact each and every person who has ressies at CBR through the end of the year to make other arrangements. She told me that they are contacting guests in order of arrival date, but did say that there was a good size group doing this and that I should be contacted very shortly. I confirmed my telephone number with the ressie to make sure they had it right. I asked her if she knew what was going to be offered to those of us who have ressies, but she told me that management had not given them this info yet, but would have it to them by this Tuesday. We talked briefly regarding what happened when POFQ was closed and she believes that the same great offers that were made to those guests, will probably be made to those of us with CBR ressies. She did confirm that they would have some options to people, so if another moderate is not available or if you have a problem with another moderate, there would be other choices. This CM was VERY polite and VERY nice and extremely informative. Alot of what she told me, she did not have to.

As like alot of other people, I too am disappointed in this, but since there is nothing I can do about it, I'm not going to let it ruin my vacation. My ressies at the CBR were at the AP rate, which beat the current discount code. I have ressies at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Wilderness Lodge. I know that when all of this happened with POFQ, they offered some amazing rates at the deluxe resorts. I could be wrong, but I thought (and those who got relocated from POFQ can either confirm this or tell me I'm wrong) they offered some of the deluxe resorts for the same rate or maybe like $10 more a night that they were booked for at POFQ. So, I'm going to sit tight and wait to see what CRO can offer me and hopefully get a really great resort for a really great rate and when I book next year's trip to WDW, the CBR should be reopened and I can stay there. Hope this helps everyone.

Like the title of your thread, LOL.

It's sad that a resort will be closed, and I hope that you get an amazing deal to upgrade to a deluxe. ;) Let us know how it goes.

:)

Thanks for the update! I don't think this is such a bad thing. CBR's common areas were not at the same level as the interiors and this will make it a better resort.

I too have reservations at CBR (in late December) and POFQ (in my hubby's name). I was going to cancel the CBR reservation, but I think I'll hang on it and see what they offer me :). I'd love to be upgraded and if I'm not, then POFQ is fine with me too.

I am glad that they are remodeling OPR... it really did need a face lift! The pool was definitely showing its age, as well. Hopefully they will reorganize the food court so there is one central place to pay, instead of having to pay individually... that, in my opinion would be the greatest improvement!

I know that it is extremely disappointing to have to be relocated, especially when all of the plans are made, and you have been looking forward to something like this. However, can you imagine if they let guests stay there, and they had no food court, no gift shop, no full service restaurant, no main pool with a slide and no pool bar? I know I wouldn't appreciate it, so they really are doing what is in the best interest of the guests.

I am also going to wait and see. I have six nights booked at CBR late Oct/early Nov. In no way is this going to ruin my trip! I really wanted a deluxe, but after our seven night magic cruise earlier this summer, I decided I needed to be more budget minded. I am forcing myself to hang tight and wait for the phone call from CRO.

I have no problem with remodeling, just the taking of ressies knowing they were closing the place down. Companies know months in advance when they will make changes or put out specials.

Did the CM state how long the refurbishment is scheduled for? We were thinking of going in May.

We are booked at CBR from 11/1 - 11/8. I guess the best thing for me to do is be patient and wait for them to call me and discuss my options. Problem is, patience isn't my thing. I feel like maybe I should jump the gun and try to figure out my options now.

My trip planning was going so well, I was so proud of myself for getting that good code. Things were just falling into place so easily - I knew the "other shoe" would drop at some point. I'm going to try to view this as a minor setback, but you have to figure, what are the odds?? Ugh.

I have reservations for Sept. 28th. This would only be 20 days after they close, so it seems they should be contacting me very soon. As soon as they do I will let everyone know what they said.

I would not be surprised if Disney attempted to resolve ALL of the reservations that are affected ASAP, given the POFQ debacle. It seems they took their time on those, and by the time they got to the end of the list, peope already knew, from boards like these, what Disney was willing to do for people.

Also, I don't recall, but wasn't POFQ being closed indefinately. A perhaps not so minor detail, in that Disney only has to rectify a set number of reservations for CBR, say 9/8 - 12/1.

Also, I know its been stated a number of times already, but it is most curious that CSR was completely left off the discounts. I am not a convention guy, but wouldn't November and December be a slow time for conventions? Why would CSR be exlcuded? I could be completely wrong and maybe this is the busiest time for conventions, which would explain everything.
