So here's a question I wish I didn't have to ask...

My wife and I, my daughter and husband, their two children are slated to go to BCV this Friday to July 5. Virtually all ADRs, all FastPass plus for attractions were in place for all six of us.

Yesterday one of our grandsons, seven yeas old came down with a nasty virus. The doctor says it could be coxsackie virus, which is a nasty condition for sure but at this point that virus' symptoms, e.g., a rash and blisters have not expressed thank heaven.

So the best it could be is a garden variety virus, no walk in the park either.

My son in law asked the obvious question about whether they should go. The doctor said yes, just to keep him on Motrin and fluids.

I tend to doubt this advice in that it's going to be very hot and very crowded, taxing for anyone and doubly so for a sick kid.

Here's my question though, assuming that they do NOT go doesn't that totally botch our reservations and fast passes? I would think we'd have to redo everything and given that it's a madhouse, we would have little luck in reserving anything we want.

Anyone know?

If today were the day I'd have to decide and our children and grandchildren don't go I'm thinking we don't go either although my daughter and SIL would very much want us to go without them.

IT should not affect your Fast Passes at all. Even though it might say "for 6" on your MDE, each person is treated seperately. If you tap in at the FP line and they don't it will not matter.

ADRs may be trickier, but they will most likely be willing to work with you. As long as some of your party shows up then it should be okay, though going from 6 to 2 might be troubleseom. I'd call and see if they can change that officially...once you know for sure if they are going of course.

Honestly, if the doctor thinks it's okay for him to go, then I'd probably go for it personally.

Kids bounce back very quick from this kinda stuff. I wouldnt cancel anything this far out. You'll still have your fast passes. Also most ADR are fine as long as some in your party show up.

No, it will not ruin anything if they can't go. You keep your FP+ and your ADRs. When you show up to the restaurant just tell them that some of your party couldn't come because they are sick. The FP+ should still stay in place as well they just wont be used for the missing members because the tickets wont be activated. No big deal, no loss.

I think if I were them and the child seems only a bit under the weather and not totally laid out, I'd probably still try it (although I don't have experience with that particular virus) . If you're staying in villas, it's still a comfortable place to recuperate and maybe he'd be fine after a few days or with somewhat shorter touring days.

Your ADRs are fine although it would be kind to call and reduce the number if you can. The CM I booked with assured me the policy is as long as at least one of your party honors the reservation, no one is charged the penalty.

Your FPs are fine - while the idea of letting the unnecessary ones go would be equally considerate, I'd personally be afraid with all the glitches that ALL the FPs would somehow get lost & I wouldn't try it

That's really a tough one. On the one hand, the majority of kids bounce right back after just a few days of this. On the other hand it is highly contagious for a week! Not a great idea to be spreading this all over the plane and the parks. If you were driving, and the little guy was bouncing back, I'd be tempted to say continue on as planned with the whole family- just keep the sick one with an adult at the resort for a couple of days.

But if you decide to go with just the 2 of you, then your FPs and ADRs won't be affected. Sorry you have this awful hiccup so close to your trip.

How many rooms have you booked? Would you have to cancel one? Is there airfare involved? Those might be the only issues.

You can cancel just their fastpasses, and show up at restaurants without them (unless it's a prepaid reservation in which case you would have to call and get them removed)

This might be bad parenting advice but I have a normal now 62 year old son and if he had this happen to him at the same moment and the doctor said "he can go", we would go.

Of course, we would monitor him for what the doctor suggested but if we had to spend time in the resort room with him, we'd do that too.

But for what the OP asked, nothing already planned will be affected. I just hope the little guy makes it down to his vacation. Quite honestly, nothing kills an infection faster than a vacation.

Right now you are freaked out a bit which is understandable, however all your ADRs and FP+ will be kept in tact. Also remember you are a group of 4 adults and 2 children. If your grandson is fading and not bouncing back, you have more than enough adults to take care of him at the hotel while everyone keeps enjoying their vacation and you can rotate adult every few hours.

If it's Kawasaki disease/virus and he does go on the trip, your grandson may not feel up to all activities after you arrive. You may want to check to see if you have prepaid meals and substitute other reservations now while you have time to search. Here's hoping to a speedy recovery for him!

You can show up to all your reservations with less than the number specified and be okay. Alternatively, if you know for sure ahead of time they aren't going, you should be able to have them change most reservations to the correct number of people by calling Disney dining. There is really ever only an issue when you try to increase the number of people on your ADR.

In terms of ADRs and FP+s, you'll be fine. I've shown up plenty of times with more or fewer guests than on the original reservation and have been seated no problem at all. No need to call or anything. Just show and let the host know one's not showing tonight. FP+s are easier cause that individual will just no redeem his or her FP+s.

Now, I know you didn't ask, but I just wanted to put in my two cents about the whole "should he come thing?". Now, I'm not a doctor but any hotel room is very small, which is perfect for spreading viruses. Like you mentioned, add in the heat, walking, etc... and I just wouldn't feel comfortable bringing him this soon.

That said, perhaps, they could just delay their arrival from Friday to Monday, which still leaves them with five nights. The only problem I could potentially see is flights if they're flying. They'll have to eat the change fee (which they'd have to do anyway if they didn't go), but I'd say postponing arrival would be the best choice. Just make sure the rest of the group doesn't get sick! If you guys had the money you could tack on an additional night (the night of the 5th) so your grandson could have a week there. I know you didn't ask but I just thought I'd share.

Hope he feels better!

If it were my child, I'd probably still go. Kids do tend to bounce back quickly, but in the meantime, you might even consider renting a stroller for the 7 year old and letting him take it easy for the first few days - take breaks and just go slow early on until he feels up to doing more.

Best of luck - and hope he feels better soon!

Sorry to hear about your grandson, I hope he's feeling better soon.

At this point you might as well wait until the last minute to decide to see how he's feeling. There will probably be some penalty on the hotel room and the airfare whether they cancel now or on Friday.

In my many trips to WDW, I've been under the weather a couple of times. I pulled it together and had a great time, but I was an adult. You're smart to be concerned about the heat and the crowds. I also don't know how you're going to keep a 7 year old calm at WDW. If he needs to return to the resort with mom or dad to get some rest, is he going to throw a fit? Tough decisions. Hope it all works out for the best, he may be feeling pretty good by Friday.

If it's Kawasaki disease/virus and he does go on the trip, your grandson may not feel up to all activities after you arrive. You may want to check to see if you have prepaid meals and substitute other reservations now while you have time to search. Here's hoping to a speedy recovery for him!

The poster wrote coxsackie - hand/foot/mouth disease - definitely not as serious as Kawasaki can be. :)

I am of the opinion to trust the physician...unless you are one yourself and have reasons to question, I would defer to the expert.

But it shouldn't mess up too much of your plans if he doesn't go.

If I read correctly, the virus symptoms are mostly skin related, but while he is feeling sick the rash has not appeared? I wonder if it is possible this virus spreads via rash/blisters and since he doesnt have those that may be why the dr approved. I would go and his parents could take him to the room midday or early if needed. Imagine if 2 days after you leave he is fine. I bet he would be heartbroken!
