Who took Home ec or typing in school?

In jr high I took one typing and two home ec classes. I don't even think it was an option not to.
I made a pair of shorts, a duffle bag, no two duffel bags and mac and cheese.

In high school along with autos (three years), metals, plastics, mechanincal drafting and two years of arch drafting, I took ceramics twice.

I tried to take Home Ec and was in the class for 2 whole days. They kicked me out because I was only 15. Apparently, you had to be 16+ back in the day... Now, I can't sew, my cooking is eh.. lol.. at least my house is usually clean.

I took Home-Ec in junior high, and Typing in high school. The things I learned in Home-Ec haven't been particularly useful. But I guess everyone needs to know how to make pizza using canned biscuits .

But I must say that even though I made great grades in school and took some "advanced" classes, over the years Typing has proven to be the most useful class I took . Well, maybe just behind English grammar/writing and Driver's Ed.

I made a tote bag in Home Ec and sewed the top shut. And I sewed that baby up good! Almost 30 years later and I have never owned a sewing machine in my life. I thought it must have been an omen.

I had to take home ec in 8th grade. One part was sewing which I made boxer shorts and the second half was cooking which I made this really fabulous purple cake with aqua icing. Who wouldn't want to eat that!

I took typing each year of high school.

I also sewed a green frog. I put froggy in my locker and someone stole him and I looked and saw the stuffing all over the hallway. Oh the Horror!! Never found out who did it.

I took Home Ec in 7th grade- we made chocolate chip cookes, and we made a Christmas stocking- both were pretty jacked up. I still can't even sew a button, but at least I can cook.

When I was in 8th grade in 1973-74, everyone in the class took home ec, typing and shop.

In home ec, I learned to make pasta from scratch and discovered a lifelong love of cooking.

In shop I developed a lifelong love of woodworking - much to my wife's delight (she loves the furniture I have made) and chagrin ("But honey, I NEED that whosawhatsit tool for this project").

I can't say I love typing, but I use it every day in my IT job, and it sure beats the heck out of my handwriting. My typing teacher was 6' 4" pushing close to 400 pounds, and his name was Mr. Goon (I am NOT making this up - his name was William Goon).

<-----Took Typing my sophomore year. Learned on an old Royal manual typewriter. Got up to around 40 wpm on that sucker by the end of the year. I can type around 60 wpm on a computer keyboard. That class and Drivers Ed are the 2 high school classes I still apply today.

I took typing in high school. It didn't look like college was in my future and my mother wanted me to have some vocational skills. So I was in a business type curriculum that included typing, bookkeeping and shorthand. The shorthand should tell you that it was many, many years ago!

Never did either home ec or shop. Learned how to sew, etc from my mother and grandmother. My dad was a builder and I also learned lots from him. I wish I had taken auto shop though - I do get confused about stuff with my car!

In middle school if you didn't take band or chorus, you had to take career explorations. Half the year was home ec and the other half was shop. Shop was really fun. I took typing in HS and it was about 1/2 boys 1/2 girls, there were no boys in my HS home ec class.

I took both. The typing was essential, I was a secretary for 32 years after high school. The home ec was a joke; we made cinnamon toast and cocoa I can honestly say my DH has never asked with either one!

My mother made me take typing when I was a junior in HS and although I was mad at her at the time, I'm glad she made me take it.

At DH's high school.... every boy was required to take one semester of home-ec and the girls were required to take one semester of shop class, in order to graduate. I've never taken either....

And who is the better for it? You of course, right? Hehehehee

Not a problem. Mentally noted. But I have somewhat of a photographic memory. If yo could send something to help with that....

You can do it, owning one is the easy part. Using it is hard.

I don't think our HS had a home-ec class. Just "The Arts"

I would love either.... especially the cocoa. Hot please it is 14 degrees here in chicago.
