I am a new DVC member. I was always under the impression that DVC could not use DDP. But I have seen severa posts on here that seem like they can. Is that the case? If you are a DVC member staying on points, you can do the DDP? How much per adult??

Yes, you can when you stay on points. :thumbsup2

We are DVC members and we use the DDP for every trip.

It's about $40.00 per adult per day for the regular plan.

Yes, we've been able to get DDP for several years. We pay the same prices other DDP folks do, but we don't have to purchase park tickets. This year, there was no premium for the holidays when regular DDP prices go up.

We do not get "Free" DDP with points reservations.

Of course, access to DDP is a "perk" that could go away, or the details could change, at any time.

We have used DDP every time we have booked with points. We just added it on at the time of booking and paided for it when we got there.

It's about $40.00 per adult per day for the regular plan.

Reports are that 2011 prices will be going up to $46/$48 (peak). I presume that DVC members booked through Member Services on cash or points will not, as in previous years, have to pay the premium for peak season, although now that the spread is only $2, it's not a significant perk anymore.

Currently DVC members pay for the plan when they check in. BUT that will be changing soon. You will pay for it when you add it to the reservation.

Not to hi-jack a thread here but quick ?

Say I come in late on a Friday night stay a week and have an early flight the next Sat. Would I have to take the plan for all 9 days or would I just be allowed to do it for the 7 days of Saturday to the following Friday.

Thanks

It is based on the number of nights you stay. So for your scenario you would have 8 nights unless you did a split stay.

The dining plan is based on the number of nights that the reservation is for. In your example, you would need to get the dining plan for 8 nights.

You have to take the DDP for the length of your reservation. If you have too many TS credits (which NEVER happens to us) then I suggest that you do a Signature Dining Experience or a Dinner Show such as HDDR, SoA, or Backyard BBQ, all of which, use 2 TS credits. We love HDDR and use 2 TS credits to see it every visit. (Draft beer, wine and sangria are included using your credits or the price too. That doesn't hurt either.:thumbsup2)

Are the Signature Dining Experience and the Dinner Shows something you can book once you get there or are they needed in advance?

Are many places hard to book when you get there? (Not character or Cinderella's Royal Table, just regular restaurants)

These days ADR's are sometimes very hard to get at the last minute. Almost impossible during "free" dining for regular resort guests.

ADR's can be booked online or on the phone up to 180 days prior - so you can imagine the competition for some of the more popular restaurants, signature and dinner shows.

If you have the DDP added to your reservation, you do not need to prepay some of the shows you would have to w/o the plan such as Hoop De Doo Review, or the Spirit of Aloha, etc. Call Member Services to reserve, and they can waive prepayment because you have the Dining Plan. I believe you still need a credit or debit card to guarantee those venues, but you will not need to prepay it as a regular "out-of-pocket" guest would.

Great. Thanks. But, in general, you can eat *somewhere*, right? We don't really need anywhere special, and don't like to decide every meal (at least dinner) six months in advance.

Thoughts?

The parks (excluding Epcot), do not have a ton of table-service restaurants. If it is a table service restaurant that you are hoping to score one evening by being a "walk-up", you could be out of luck, or else stuck waiting a few hours for an opening.

I have seen people turned away at dinnertime at 'Ohana, WCC, Norway, LTT, Crystal Palace, Cape May, and 1900 PF.

My family ALWAYS does the dining plan, and I never take a chance. I always have an ADR booked for each evening....just in case. If we end up changing plans, I just cancel at our resort's Concierge desk...no problem!

We, too, always have a TS reservation each day, based on what our general plan is before we go.

It may be a TS breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Quite often, our plan changes and we cxl our ADR and rebook something else if possible with our resort concierge or even Guest Services in the parks.

Example last month: We had ADR's at AK for Donald's Safari Breakfast but cxld as we couldn't get moving that early. We eventually headed over to Epcot, and stopped at Guest Services near the entrance, had them find out what was available, and booked a dinner ressie at Teppan Edo for later on.

For the person who originally asked this question - this is not always possible to do. High traffic times such as free dining dates, holidays or Food & Wine Festival can make same day ressies virtually impossible. Happened to us last September. We had credits, and no place to use them.

You can always eat at a counter service. But if you are on the dining plan, you only get as many of those as nights you are staying. So you will wind up not using the table service credits and pay out of pocket for the extra counter service.

The dining plan really requires you to have some ADRs made. You are only going to get lucky and find something as a walk up once or twice.

This is what we do. We pick places we think we will eat but if we want to change while there and can we do. While I didn't change places this last trip, I was able to change the times at both Tusker House and Whispering Canyon on our last trip. Tusker House we did it by a walk up (went from a 2:00 pm reservation to an 11:30 am walk up) and then by calling WDW Dine the night before our Whispering Canyon reservation. They moved us from 6:50 pm to 5:00 pm. Worked out great.

If I was on the dining plan, I don't think I would ever go to Disney without my TS places booked, even as back up.

It depends on when you go. During some months, you'd be pretty much out of luck if you didn't make ADRs ahead of time. At other times, you'd be able find somewhere to eat, but it might be out of the way places, like Shutters at CBR or Turf Club at SSR. I'm not a fan of maximizing credits (ordering the most expensive things to "get the most" out of the DDP), but I'd be afraid that going without ADRs would result in me being unable to use my credits, or unable to get a good value out of my credits, and by "good value," I mean simply not losing money.
