Well, first of all my camera is dead or may as well be. I had a Nikon coolpix S210 it took fairly decent pictures and I was happy with it. I took it to Best Buy and they said it would cost more to fix it than I paid for it. :scared1: Shoot I just bought the dang thing last year in May!!! The mechanism inside that works the lens and the focus is shot. Anyway...I saw a camera or two that I like but would like some input if you don't mind. One is a Canon SX 110 IS and the other is a Nikon L100....I'm kinda not sure about another Nikon but I did like it....maybe I just bought a dud?? Can you give me any advice on either of these two or recommend something else? My budget is around $250. would just like a fairly good zoom and the ability to take a picture without my subject needing to remain still forever. Night time pictures would be a plus as well.

Thanks for your help.

Did you contact Nikon Service directly? Perhaps they can help. I would think that it is worth a phone call. Explain the situation - a camera should last more than a year.

Sorry, I am a DSLR guy, so I can't comment on the point and shoot cameras. I haven't had issues with my Nikon gear failing except when I dropped my lens and a friend broke the switch on my flash. Their service was good, they fixed both under warranty.

I would check CNET.com for reviews by super-techy people. But for what its worth, I just purchased the Canon SX10 IS, which is one level up from the 110 and I LOVE it. its easy to use, has manual settings, takes absolutely amazing day, night, sunset, close up, far away, you get the idea pics.:goodvibes

We purchased ours at Fry's Electronics for $300. Its normally $500.

I personally use the dslr Nikon D90, but my DS just recently bought the Nikon L100 (he's 11 years old). It has a 15x zoom, as well lots of features that are pretty good. He has done really well with it and I have been pretty impressed with the quality of the pics he has taken. He won't let me play with it though (is he afraid I'll break it??? lol :confused3) so I haven't taken any pics with it myself. I did take him for a little photo walk around the local college campus with it when he first got it......and was pretty impressed with the pics he got.
