So Disney moved me out of the roll in shower room without telling me.

So I had booked a room at the Contemporary. Theme Park View, roll in shower because I am in a wheelchair and have Cerebral Palsy. Yesterday, I called back with a few room requests that someone had graciously told me about on the boards. Higher floor, mid tower and odd numbered room so I'd have a bed facing the castle. Today, I was looking at my reservation and didn't see the roll in shower in the room type. I called and they had told me I had been moved out of the roll in shower room because of the requests! Apparently, there is only one roll on shower room, theme park view. I was able to get the roll in shower room back and just confirmed it once again but I can't believe they didn't call me beforehand and ask me if I wanted to be moved. I know it was my fault for putting in such specific requests though and I will not do that again.

I'm glad you got the room back that you need!

I am surprised that they automatically moved you out of an H/A room, in my thinking the phone rep you spoke with yesterday wasn't very attentive when doing that and maybe completely overlooked that factor. This is a good example of why it's always a good idea to keep "requests" to a minimum or at least to indicate primary request vs secondary. Disney does try to honor requests, but when there are conflicting requests that can't both/all be met, they have no idea what is the most important to you. This goes for any room-type at any resort, with any number of requests that people make. The more requests you have, the more likely it is that something may get messed up unless all requests are acceptable in an either/or situation. Again, though, I'm surprised that with a bookable category of roll-in shower that wasn't maintained as the primary. So glad you caught it in time.

Enjoy your vacation!

Good thing you noticed.
When someone reserves an accessible room, that should be blocked for you.
I'm not sure why the CM didn't get a warning when you put in the extra requests.

Most people are not aware of how few accessible rooms with roll in showers are required according you the ADA.
The Contemporary Resort has 655 rooms (not including Bay Lake a Towers). According to the ADA formula, 2% of the rooms have to be accessible for handicapped use; those are not the ones with roll in showers - they just need grab bars and some other small features.
Disney in general seems to go a little higher than required, so if we up it to 4%, that's only 26 rooms.

Rooms with roll in showers have a smaller required number - 4 + 1 per 100 rooms over 400.
That means they are only required to have 7 rooms with roll in showers for the whole resort.

Since they are also required to distribute the rooms in different locations and views around the resort, it's easy to see that a couple of requests could mean there are no accessible rooms that meet that request.

1) Yes.
2) With all those requests, how do they know the most important one?
3) When I made assignments, many times I had to guess at request priorities.

Wow, very interesting information. I had no idea of the actual numbers needed to be in compliance. Extremely helpful thank you. As this room type wasn't available when I originally booked the room as we had a lower category Garden Wing room with a tub booked, I am so glad I kept checking for openings. We have never stayed in the Tower before and wanted to splurge for my 30th birthday. I am very glad that I didn't wait to book the room the room until the Florida resident rates became available and I caught the mistake I made with the room requests. There is a very good chance with only one room available to fit my medical needs it may have been gone by then. Later on, after I had paid rack rate for my deposit, they asked if either of us are members and my Mom (who is my guest for the trip and included on the ressie) is as I can't drive. So we are very lucky to have some type of discount if the Florida resident rate doesn't apply as the room is already booked. I am also very surprised the room wasn't blocked off for me as it would of made my trip incredibly more difficult without it and no one told me by putting in the room requests I would loss it.
