So disgusted with Cable Company!!!

Another option is Roku - Smithsonian just added their channel and it is free :goodvibes

We have Roku too and love it! :happytv: Cable was outrageous and getting too expensive. We still have local channels through an HD antenna, so we still get the prime program channels.

Was going to suggest the same thing, I love my Roku, have used it for almost 3 years, have the lifetime subscription to PlayOn, and no longer miss anything.

ABC, CBS, and NCB through your Roku?

We have the basic roku and get about 40 free channels including abc, cbs, nbc, pbs. There are also free channels with free movies. Only had ours 2 weeks so I haven't explored all the features yet.

Thanks everyone. I know cable is just like any business but since we have had it, it just always feels like they are raking over the coal. I will look into Roku. The hundreds of dollars we are spending is just ridiculous.

The day they make HBO a la carte - which I believe they are working on, is the day I kill cable. There are so many good options out there to replace 90% of the programming available.

Is there a way to get sports without cable...or in our case directv? If so, I'd love to drop the tv bill, but DH is a sports nut and I have to watch my gamecocks play football.

Typically, no. The most extreme case being where you're interested in local sports, which are usually blacked out even through online services (like mlb.tv)

The cost of cable is a pretty frequent topic on these boards. I will say that I do sympathize with those who are frustrated by costs and the like, many of us have been there at one point or another. One can attempt to negotiate with their company (possibly threatening to cancel), move to a different company (if available), or simply drop cable entirely in favor of antenna and streaming services (with the understanding of what services might be lost).

Beyond that, we are just rehashing the same complaints repeatedly, and not covering any new ground. After all is said and done, we are all left with the choice of whether or not we want to pay for cable, and receive the associated services. Either it's a price point one is willing to pay (possibly frustrated nonetheless), or the perceived value just doesn't add up to the real cost, and one isn't willing to pay for it, and ultimately decides not to.
