So Disgusted-Weather

We love the rain at WDW. Even if there is lightning. When it is just rain the rides/parks are pretty easy to walk on. With lightning we do the indoor activities because most people don't show up to the parks or leave since the "thrill" rides are shut down. Either way it is a win/win to us. While I would like to have it be sunshine and rainbows the entire trip we plan accordingly and go with the flow. Epcot is by far the best park for when it is lightning out though. Soarin, Mission Space, Space ship Earth, Nemo, TTWC, Captain EO, Ellen's Energy Adventure and Figment can all be done along with walking between the countries in the WS and checking out what they have to offer in the shops and such.

I've been there. We went one October and it rained 4 straight days . . . and it didn't stop. I've never seen it rain like that Anyway, we didn't let it stop us. We got ponchos, put on smiles and had a ball. Was it ideal? Nope. But we did it and we had fun.

Oh yeah, the best way to dry shoes overnight is stuff them with newspaper. It's amazing how well the works.

We were there last week. It rained on our drive in Friday. It rained at DHS for about an hour on Monday. It POURED at AK on Thursday and rained a bit while we ate dinner (maybe an hour?) at EPCOT on Friday. Every day there was a high chance of rain. And out of 9 days, it rained four times. We had much more sunshine than rain. The day at AK was not fun, but we walked (in the thunderstorm) from ride to ride. I wasn't wasting our day hiding under an awning like a lot of people did. It rained for hours that afternoon.

Pack your ponchos, dry shoes and make the most of it. :)

Can anyone with experience traveling in past storms give an educated, albeit loose guess as to the flying situation on Tuesday AM? I'm assuming all flights coming in will be grounded IF the track continues as projected (yes still a big IF, I know). Obviously a hurricane would be a definite no flying zone but what about a weak TS when flying into MCO from the west? At this point I'm just grasping for some hope of not losing our first day stuck at the airport!
We flew out of Phiily on the 20th. They diverted to Tampa because of storms. Then the plane didn t have enough fuel so that took an hour. Finally got to Orlando after 6 hours. It was exhausting. The flight usually takes about 2 1/2 hours!

Agreed!!! We got here Friday night and the weather has been incredible! Mostly cloudy, not too hot, and some short rainstorms. With the exception of the hours-long sideways rain that put a damper on our Sat MK p.m. EMH touring, it's been fantastic.

So glad to hear the weather has been manageable. Close friends drove down for their first visit and arrived Saturday. I've been worried that the storm put a damper on their trip.

Flew in this morning. Gorgeous day, if a bit hot and humid. And to think I was worried about Erika a few days ago...

Yeah, still not worried. I wouldn't be fishing out on a lake or in the middle of an opened field but in a themepark the chances of a person being hit are slim. Lightning will seek the fastest route to the ground and at Disney World you will pretty much never be that route.

We were at Epcot one day and headed out of World Showcase toward Future World and hurrying to get out of rain as fast as we could with small children in tow and lighting struck so close everyone's hair stood up. Orlando is the ground strike capital of the world. Why do you think everything at Disney World is covered in lightning rods.

In Florida during summer/hurricane season, you need to just assume it will probably rain at some point during the day. Usually we get showers in late afternoon, and they don't last too long. Pack ponchos and go about your business as usual; that's what us Floridians do.
