Quick vent to get this off my chest. I sail Saturday for the 7 night eastern Caribbean. Booked opening day, so have. Been waiting, what, two years? Just got home from the doctor with a diagnosis of strep. I know it's not the end of the world, but I fly out tomorrow and want to enjoy the weather and Disney!

Temper tantrum over. Thanks for listening.

I don't blame you for being disappointed. Did the doc prescribe antibiotics? If so, my experience has been that those do wonders very quickly. Also, I recommend loads of hot tea on the ship to soothe the throat. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and a great vacation!

Oh, I'm sorry! The good news is 24 hours of antibiotics later and you should feel much better/won't be contagious! I hope you feel better quickly!

Edited to add: just remember: almost endless ice cream for that poor throat..! ;)

And recuperating from an illness that's not really that bad now (after starting treatment) onboard a cruise is really nice.

Oh yuck, nobody wants to be sick for their cruise!

Honestly, though, it's the one time I'd be happy with a strep diagnosis because I'd know that it would be significantly better after 24 hours of antibiotics. Other crud can tend to cling and drag on and on and you never know when you'll be rid of it. Taking antibiotics isn't really that fun, but at least they should make you feel better relatively soon. Packing might not be that fun sick though. :(

I hope you're feeling better soon and you can enjoy your cruise!

If you have medication you should be much better when you embark for your cruise. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Make sure to use lots of sunscreen as antibiotics can make you more susceptible to sunburns! You should feel better soon, likely before you board! It's also much better to be diagnosed now than at Disney where you'd need to take time out of your day to make your way to a health center (happened to a friend's kid on their first WDW trip.)

I agree with the PPs. Antibiotics are standard protocol for strep and they usually kick in pretty quick. I've only had strep once (knock on wood) and I was feeling better within a day after starting the antibiotics and much better within a few days. I think you'll be able to enjoy your cruise just fine by Saturday.

So sorry to hear this but I am sure antibiotics will help you lots very soon. Be sure to take some Benadryl with you just in case you have an allergic reaction to the antibiotics....hives.

Speaking as someone that's had an allergic reaction to antibiotics... if you break out in hives from it, see a doctor. I remember being itchy in places I didn't know existed on (and in) my body, including my throat, which almost closed off.

But truthfully, hopefully, the doctor has prescribed something the OP has previously taken.

Not to be a downer, but will OP have any trouble with the medical form for the ship? It's still several days away and the antibiotics should bring down any fever and eliminate any possibility of being contagious, but still, that stupid catchall form....

As I remember it, the form asks if you are CURRENTLY experiencing fever and sore throat, cough, runny nose, headache, or body aches. The questions about diarrhea or vomiting apply to the 3 days prior to sailing. As long as the antibiotics kick in and the OP doesn't have a fever on embarkation day, then it's not a problem. I would recommend the OP begin taking a probiotic to counter-act any intestinal issues that might arise from the antibiotic.

Well the bright side is that you caught it before you left and will hopefully be feeling much better soon! :) I loved the comment about eating extra ice cream for your throat!
Have a great cruise :)

I could be wrong but some antibiotics... you are not to be in Direct Sun .. could have a very bad reaction . It might be worse than the original illness .

And hopefully the OP's family isn't next on the list to get it. Spring/summer sickness is the worst!

Seriously, not trying to be a downer. I hope you have a great cruise and a very nice rest, so you get well, soon.

A two hour nap and your positives word about helped, so thank you. I am on an antibiotic and specifically asked about being out in the sun. Not an issue for this prescription. Hubby is on way to the doctor now since he is feeling off, too. We will be better and especially drinking hot tea on much veranda. Thank you again to all.

Don't forget to put all meds/remedies/potions in your carry-on, not your checked bag...just in case.
