So DH bought a door

Our local lumber store is closing and DH stopped in. He brought home a front door. But here is the thing DH is not handy at all. It is just the door no frame hardware or anything since it was a floor sample. Are we going to be able to hang this without a frame? HE was thinking he could just use the existing one, but I don't know. It is a real nice door and I am considering buying the window door panel too. But something tells me it won't work and we will be out $100. Please tell me I am wrong.

Hubby is a carpenter who specializes in hanging doors, and he says it can be a nightmare even for someone experienced. He says you should hire somebody who knows what they're doing to hang it for you, and that person will know what else you might or might not need to buy to make it work.

My husband is very handy and has done this, but it really can be quite a job.
You may want to look in your yellow pages or newspaper even for men who do "handy work" on the side and see how much they'd charge. I don't know what the door you have looks like, but even if the person charges a hundred bucks you'd probably still have a good deal.

You can use the existing frame and hinges. You need to carefully mark the hinges and then carve them out. It is not too hard, but you need to do your research and have sharp chisels. If your DH is not handy, then you will need to hire somebody and a single door will cost lots to install because it is a small job.

Hhmm, maybe a call to BIL is on order. I wonder if he could do it. Is it hard to replace a side panel window too?

I had a door very similar to that with those sidelights at my last house! Nice door! Good luck with the hanging job. DH and I know our limits and we would probably hire somebody to hang it.
