The points per stay are higher at BLT than at AKV. The money you save on dues you make up for in the points it takes to stay.
The pool and play area is also going to be a great attribute along with the savanna. You mentioned children I think the Animals and water fun center are a plus. I would also tell you about the story time around the fire pit where the CMs tell the children real African folk tales. There are morning safaris that are exclusive to AKV.
All in all these were the selling points for us. The Rooms are also bigger than At BLT. Our guide tried to sell us on BLT to the very end.
When we saw him the first time about 6 months before we bought. His sales pitch was you should buy where you want to stay. That was before BLT was up for sale. Six months later it was a different story.
We were set on AKV and called to buy and he tried to change our order to BLT telling us that we don't have to stay there we can stay anywhere. He also tried to feed us the line of bull that BLT was a better buy for the money, the dues are cheeper, blah, blah, blah.
When it all comes down to it. Sit down with both the point charts side by side and plan your first 2 trips as a DVC member. Do your homework
That will tell you point wise what you will need. There is a great 360% room view of all the resort rooms to give you another angle. http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/guest/resorts/resortOverview?id=ProspectsResortsOverviewPage click on the resort yo want to view and go to the 360 room view link
Whatever you decide, you will not be disappointed.
