So, can this be salvaged?

I had 40 banked points from last UY. I made a reservation using 24 at BLT. Split stay at SSR using the rest plus this year's points. Wanted somewhere else but booked less than two months in, wasn't available. Stalked online, found Boardwalk for the SSR dates. Had enough points to book it without canceling for fear it might get scooped up. Did so, then cancelled SSR. Just realized that the Boardwalk reservation didn't use the remaining 16 points from last UY and am now under 31 days. Will MS/can MS reallocate the points without any going into holding so that the 16 from last year can be used and I can bank the 16 from this UY (yes, still have banking time left)?

Odds are not. If you had reallocated prior to 31 days out then yes. You might get a sympathetic CM but that's what it'll most likely take.

I think you should call and ask. They may be able to help you. Good luck!

Called MS and found someone who talked to their manager and was able to adjust the points sans penalty/holding.

I'm glad MS took care of this for you. You should double check that you didn't end up with any points in holding when they substituted in the banked points.

Just so you know for next time, to use the 16 banked points for the BWV reservation you needed to cancel the SSR reservation first to free up those points, making them available for use in the BWV reservation. The system (or MS either for that matter) doesn't make any assumptions about what points you might want to use for a particular reservation so any banked points you free up when you cancel a reservation do not get reassigned dynamically to an existing reservation.
