AV. I too am extremely impressed with the LOTRs trilogy. I don't think we'll see in our lifetimes the likes of what Peter Jackson & Co. have been able to accomplish in Rings. Whether most people realzie it or not, these films have etched an indelible mark in film-making history, effectively raising the bar for everyone else, while helping to solidify, or justify, the resurgance of these grand epic films that used to be more commonplace in the glory days of cinema . I too have never been so captivated as I have been with Rings. I hope you're right about the ending being a fitting conclusion to the series. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Regarding Pirates, I'm inclined to agree with your assesment of it falling short of expectations. I expect to see a Pearl Harbor type of return at the box office, where it did very well(and for all practical purposes was a good movie), but fell short on the ROI relative to most films that cost a lot less.
