I used to work for an amusement park (not Disney unfortunately) and I know rides have to be refurbed on a regular basis, but why does Pirates have to be refurbed when I'm going to be there?

It's my first time going since 2010 and my husband can't even remember the last time he went and we're both so bummed! :sad1:

That being said, would it still be worth eating at the Blue Bayou if Pirates is going to be closed? We were going to eat there on my birthday but now I think we should eat somewhere else.

Also, if I want to buy a gift card from an eBay auction, how do you verify if the card is valid or is it luck of the draw?

Doesn't Blue Bayou close also when Pirates is down?

Yes, almost always.

Interesting. We have reservations at BB on 1/31, and have for weeks now. No email canceling them or such. I didn't realize it normally closes.

BFF and I knew Pirates would be closed, and still chose to eat there. We love the ambiance!

About the gift card, I don't know that there is a way to verify it. They could give you the card number and the phone number to check it, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't be spent between your purchase and when they send it our to you. Personally, I wouldn't do it!

Supposedly, the refurb on Pirates has been moved to April (according to another DL website). Thus the reason you were able to make reservations. I am almost positive the restaurant closes if the ride is closed.

From what I have been reading it seems that the Blue Bayou only closes if the water is drained from pirates because it ruins the ambiance of the restaurant. If the water isn't drained then Blue Bayou stays open, then only the boats won't be going by but the lagoon will still be there.

I just looked at the park info for dland and it looks like these are the rides that will be closed for refurb, no mention of Pirates! Hurray! :)

Sailing Club Columbia
Finding Nemo
Splash Mountain
it's a small world

Praise the lord! The Nemo submarines will be under refurb while we're there! I cannot stand that ride. My son will be bummed, but I'm sure he'll recover. Now, if Pirates was down, that may be a deal breaker. We will also sadly miss out on Space Mountain and Soarin Over California, but last time we went to DL, my son freaked out at the last minute over Space Mountain. He was just 40 inches tall on our last trip, and still kind of scared of stuff, so we'll see if he is willing to try the Matterhorn. I haven't been on it since they changed the cars.

they have moved all the refurbs around and now indy and space and soaren will be open when we are there im so excited!

DS4 is scared of a lot of things. We asked him to try one new ride this trip. We gave him 3 choices: Pirates (which he's been on but doesn't remember), Star Tours (also has been on multiple times but thinks we are really in space so won't ride last 2 trips), or Matterhorn (never been on). And he is super scared of the Yetti....so to our surprise eh picks the Matterhorn (we quietly told him the Yetti was not real and a robot which somewhat helped). LOL. I kinda freaked out because he couldn't sit in my lap. We decided to have DH sit directly behind DS4. His arms were long enough to reach forward and hold onto DS4 shoulders. Make sure you aren't in two separate cars (seat 3 and 4). It worked great and DS4 liked it! Yay. And the thing that scared him the worst was the red eyes in the dark lift hill at the beginning. Hope your DS enjoys it!
