So are you Verizon customer happy with your service?

DD does not want a cell phone, but with driving we think she should have one on her in the car. Most of her friends are on Verizon, so the call-to-call would be free if she is going to join the cell phone world. Not looking to make it a Christmas gift as she really would rather not be bothered with one, so we have time to research. Any opinions?

We have Verizon and so far are very happy with it. We had Cingular before and had nothing but trouble. Verizon service is reliable and customer service is very good. Most of my kids' friends are on Verizon too so the calls are free expecially when they are talking with their girlfriends!

I have been a Verizon customer for years and I have been very happy with my service. I never drop calls, the customer service is wonderful, and I like getting a new phone every two years.

I am curious about this DD of yours, she is of driving age and doesn't want a cell phone???

I was wondering that, too! Or she could be smart and really want it, but not want it to be a present. But knowing her mom wants her to have it she knows she has to act like she doesn't want it, but still gets it AND all the other presents. :rotfl: Can you tell my kind of thinking? :teeth:

Oops, I forgot to answer the question I got so caught up analyzing the situation. :teeth:

We have Verizon and have been happy with it. My DH and I have had it for awhile, along with our DD. We just added 2 of our boys recently. Most of my DD's friends have it so she is not using minutes talking with them. And of course we can all talk with each other and not use minutes. Free minutes after 9pm and weekends, too.

We've had Verizon for years and have been very happy with the service. This year we upgraded our service because our son is going to college in Pennsylvania and we are in Michigan. We are able to talk to each other without using minutes and he can talk to any other Verizon customer without using minutes (e.g., his girlfriend here in Michigan :teeth: ). Nights and weekends are free. It works well for us. I was a little worried the first time the new bill came. I thought there might be some hidden charges. Happily, the bills have been just what we expected.

I can recommend Verizon.

I have been extremely happy with verizon cell service in the 5 years i've had it.

I had Verizon two cell phones ago. I will NEVER have a Verizon cell phone again. The coverage is fine - no problem there. HOwever, they are THIEVES. Every bill contain huge overcharges. We were constantly charged roaming fees when we never left our calling area. I am talking at least $75 per month. In order to get them straightened out, DH or I would have to spend at least two hours every month in the store. The turn over was so high that every month the customer service people were new so they didn't know the system. SO unless you have a high tolerance for frustration & don't mind making Verizon rich, I'd steer clear. Never had a billing issue with Nextel or Cellular One.
P.S. I notice your location is 1000 miles north of WDW - I'm in Maryland - be especially leary of Verizon if you will be within the same area. I could tell you horror stories that others have encountered with Verizon as well. My brother had similar biling problems. A friend bought a phone & spent hours getting it activiated - customer service line was a perpetual loop of recordings. Verizon store told her to call customer service. She did from the store. Guess what, the store's customer service ended up staying an hour past closing because my friend was still on the phone with customer service.

I think that it depends on where you live and where she will be using the phone. If most of her friends have Verizon and they are happy with it you should be fine. We had Verizon but switched over to Cingular because Verizon's coverage was BAD. We could not use our phone at home, at the school my daughter attends or at the ski hill where she spends most of the winter. Every time I called to complain about their coverage I was told that we were in a bad area and NO cell phones would work where we are. WRONG- we have Cingular now and it works great. When DS was home from New Zealand he had his T-Mobile phone and he had great coverage as well. I think it all depends on where you live.

I've had Verizon for a few years and I'm very happy with the service. I've had good coverage in every state I've visited and I've even used my phone in Canada w/no extra charges.

Thanks everyone for your input...
First, yes, it's true....she will be driving soon but does NOT want a cell phone. :confused3 It is truly for us more than her. We will feel a little more comfortable knowing she has it if there is ever a need when driving. She does not have her own car, nor will she. (but onstar is a great suggestion for the future) She has to pay her own auto insurance ( a year up front is our rule) and she realized VERY quickly it is much more economical to be a part time driver on my car over buying one herself and being a primary driver.
Ourr DD is not scamming to try and get one...LOL...that is something our DS will try, but not her. She is just not interested, does not want ot be bothered by friends calling and bugging her over silly stuff...she's pretty low key, low maintenence. I am still trying to figure it out, but that's her way so normally we don't push her, she does have a mini Ipod...and relatives have givne her ITunes cards..she hasn't even touched those...she's very low tech other than computer graphics.
I digress tho....she'd much rather I spend on Adobe workshop programs...about $1500 for her level...but that's NOT gonna happen....so she's not going for the double gift thing...like I said, we are not even looking at it for Christmas, but since there are deals now, we started researching.

Thanks again, so far looks good to us.

I believe that I've had Verizon for at least 8 years and have been happy with them. A few years ago, I went on a cruise with my neighbors. Everyone had a cell phone, but I was the only one with Verizon. While we were at sea (somewhere between the Bahamas and Florida), they all wanted to call home but none of them could get a signal. Guess what, each one ended up using my phone!

We've had verizon for years and have been very happy with it. I believe they have a multitude of plans, so if it's something that's not going to be used too often (for emergencies only, so to speak) then you can probably get one relatively inexpensively.

I'm happy with my verizon phone... my sister and I share a plan and with the IN service, it's works out well for us because we are on the phone with each other all day long. Their customer service is very friendly and helpful (AT&T was always rude and unhelpful).

I've had verizon for 4 years and I've been happy with them.

DH has been a Verizon customer since 1994...when it was actually 'cool' to have a cell phone! He has had a few bumps along the road with billing but nothing that a quick phone call couldn't fix.

My 15 year old just switched to Verizon from her trafone and she (and we) love it. The bill was exactly the amount we were told it would be when purchsing the phone and plan. We also have the IN calling program and she gets 900 minutes a month fro other calls. weekend and evenings are free/free roaming also. Had no problems with activation, they did it right at the store for us. PLUS, customer service called us 1 week later to see if we liked the phone and plan so far.

DS just got his first cell phone at age 15, DH and I had have Verizon for 2 + years now and LOVE it. In fact, we both just got new phones as we resigned our contracts with them last week. The coverage is excellent, the customer service fantastic and the couple of times we did have a problem we always got a call from manager inquiring about after we lodged a complaint, followed by a modest credit on the next months bill.
