So are wagons allowed or not?

I was in Disney World a couple of weeks ago and noticed several families with wagons which I thought had been banned in Disney. Just curious as I have friends coming with me over the summer and they would really like to use one with their two young kids.

I saw them as well during our trip in April. When crowds aren't bad they work ok. When it gets packed they become impossible.

Officially, NO -
  • Strollers must be 31” (79cm) wide and 52” (132cm) long or smaller.
  • As a reminder, wagons are not permitted in our parks. Stroller wagons will also no longer be permitted.

You may have seen a wagon tagged as a wheelchair for a child with specific special needs or something?? (I don't actually know if they do that, just my best guess.)

Wagons -- or stroller-wagons -- are on the Prohibited list:

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/park-rules/

10th and 11th bullets down the list of Prohibited Items:
  • Strollers that are greater than 31" (79 cm) in width and 52" (132 cm) in length. Stroller wagons are also prohibited.
  • Wagons are prohibited at any theme park or water park. Wagons are prohibited at indoor venues at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

I'm here right now and have seen A LOT of wagons. I assumed they were all wheelchair tagged but none of the ones I've seen had tags on them. Some of these wagons are so large that I wonder how they were even allowed in. They were absolutely over the size limit.

I'm just back and I also saw many, many wagons. Really surprised me.

This was my experience a few weeks back.

Our friends coming with us bought a very expensive wagon and we’re super excited to have it for Disney and sent me pictures and I felt so bad breaking it to them that it wasn’t allowed and then I show up at the parks and see multiple.

They seemed more strict in the beginning. Then we startd noticing more but it’s nowhere near how many we saw before they put on prohibited list.

I don’t know if some are getting through even without ‘specific needs’ tag. At this point it is still a big risk to try getting one into the park. It’s still prohibited. I think that has discouraged most people who have something else that could work.

I go to Disneyland all the time and always see wagons. But I have also watched Security stopping families with wagons coming out of the parking structures heading to security to discuss the wagon. And I have seen a lot turned around sent back to the car to put them back. Since we are often in the handicap areas (wheelchair party that cannot go through many lines at Disneyland), I will look over at those with wagons and every one of them has 2 tags on it (a blue one denoting the wagon is approved and a secondary tag for stroller as wheelchair - I think they are currently dark pink or green but they have been changing a lot).

So I would assume all of the ones at WDW are approved. I had seen in a few Facebook groups that families were told to "hide" their wagon approval tags because others were stealing them to get their wagons in. I believe they just have to show them when asked so would be readily available if questioned.

According to the Disney website, they're not allowed. Even though some people seem to get them in, I wouldn't take that chance. Not worth the hassle if the cast member follows the guidelines.

Wagons in the park have to be wheelchair tagged and push, not pull. CMs at the gate are still very good at flagging people without wheelchair tags. And they do still turn wagons away daily.

That said, do people abuse the system? Yes. You can also have a stroller tagged as a wheelchair and sometimes one child who is 2 years old could've easily had a stroller tagged, but they bring the wagon instead and pile in 4 kids and all of their drinks and lunches, and half of their hotel room.

I’m an annual pass holder and we took my 20 month old granddaughter to Epcot last night. A couple weeks ago at the Halloween event at MK, I saw a ton of wagon strollers…I was a little jealous because they are convenient. Much faster getting her in and out. I thought they were banned. On my way out, I asked a cast member at the front gate who looked to be management. They said as long as you push them instead of pulling them, and they are under the size restrictions, it’s all good.

So, we had my granddaughter again and before we went down to Epcot, I went and bought one at target. Well, we got through the entrance and were right near that photo spot and we got stopped and told we can’t have it there. Of course I told them about what I was told at MK, it didn’t matter of course. I was a bit upset because of this…but they don’t really care how much money you spend there or the circumstances. They don’t look the other way for nothing. Totally understand rules are rules. I was upset at getting told something different a couple weeks prior. I don’t think us pass holders read the stroller rules every other week when we go down there.

The kicker is why I was making my case, 3 other families with wagon strollers walked through the turn styles. She said “the probably have medical exemption” tags. They didn’t…that was a line of crap. Frustrating! They offered to get us a free plastic stroller rental. After all of that, I wasn’t in the mood to give them any money. We canceled our character dinner reservation (which they waived the fee on) and we left. Went to sea world with my wagon stroller. No one cared there.

I get rules, but I see these things all over the Disney parks.

It’s like the cars the speed by you at 95mph in a 70 zone you get pulled over and get a ticket for going 80.

I'm sorry you're upset. This has been a rule since 2019 and it has not changed, you don't have to check the stroller rule regularly. I'm not sure what someone who looks like management looked like, but I would not trust any cast member's word of mouth about what they think the rule might be. Whoever that CM was, management or not, was wrong. Some of them just don't know squat and this is a written rule. So it isn't reasonable to expect a park to honor what a CM told you because they can't honor any black and white rule breaking. And being honest, I know a lot of CMs, and many guests do lie in order to get what they want. So without something in writing, they had no way to know if you were telling the truth.

Sometimes people show their medical tags but the general public doesn't see them. The cast member doesn't have to prove it to you that they have it, either. You really don't know if they have a medical issue and it's none of our business if they do.

I hope you had a nice day at Sea World.

Sure, I should have checked before I dropped $250 on the stroller wagon. Went to MK this evening to count stroller wagons….I stopped at 9 after the first 45 mins. Kids looked perfectly fine, no medical gear. A manager is usually is dressed in a non-uniform and more business casual. Clearly, I got bad info which happens. We should be able to trust them…it’s not like I was asking a custodial CM about the policy.

To be perfectly clear, I’m not one to point at those other families and say “no fair”. I simply asked about the MANY instances when I saw them. I saw these 3 after I was told to leave and I was at guest services outside of Epcot getting my reservation canceled, about 5 mins after getting the boot.

Let’s face it, Disney can be pretty awful at times…even as you give them many thousands per year in revenue.

You have absolutely no idea what is going on with another child, even if they looked "perfectly fine" to you. Medical gear isn't required to have a disability. You might not realize this, but this is actually a very offensive statement.

Yes, you should have read the rules before dropping $250 for a wagon.

I agree I suppose strictly speaking, based on the definition, 'wagons' are pulled. If you look at it as a simple safety issue they are impossible to control in an ultra crowded park without someone potentially tripping over one and getting hurt. Especially minors. In which case, the park is held liable. With big SUV strollers, annoying as they are, parents hopefully maintain control at all times.

SWO does not have that rule
