So are the rest of us totally out of luck?!

Let me see if I understand this.... if you get free dining you have to pay rack rate for the room and tickets correct? So for me I have a room book at the Yacht Club with 42% off... which would be a better deal for the four of us than free dining I think... am I missing something?

Since you have 4 adults it's probably a wash between the two. I would check online and compare the two prices.

Like many posters, I too was disappointed that the FD extension excluded my travel dates of Oct. 14-19th. I was planning on going whether or not I got FD, so my hopes weren't dashed too much, but it still bummed me out a little, UNTIL....

Yesterday morning I decided to call and see if I had any PINs. The first CM I spoke with said I had a PIN. In my excitement, and stupidity, I said "awesome, I'll have my TA get it applied to my ressie." and then hung up. LOL

About 15 minutes later, I realized I knew nothing about the PIN and started thinking about blackout dates. So I called back and spoke with another CM. This one told me I actually had TWO PINs, one for 40% off room and one for FD. I told her my travel dates, and she came back with the unfortunate news that neither PIN would work with those dates. So I go back to being semi-bummed.

Well, last night, after reading many posts about people having PINs they can't use until July 13th, I decide to call one more time (third time's a charm, right?). I spoke with an awesome CM named Ashton. He was looked for a long while and finally said I have a THIRD PIN attached to my name and this was another FD one and that it would definitely work for my travel dates. He even attempted to go into my ressie and apply it, but was unable due to it being booked by my TA. He gave me the code to give to my TA, but then said "Oh wait, your TA won't be able to do it until 7/13." and that "an official email should be going to you around that time." Needless to say I was ecstatic! I immediately started calculating the savings and whether or not I want to upgrade to a mod, since with FD it'll be around the same price as staying at POP and paying for FD. I decided to stay at POP again and save the $$$ since things are tight right now.

Anyway, the moral of the story is to don't give up. Call three times a day if you have to. I called 3 different times and got 3 different results, each one better than the one before it.

The pin is an email pin? or is this a pin the general public will be able to use? I called again and all they tell me is they can only see Pins that are current not what is coming up. Why so many different responses from these CM's?? its so frustrating!

He told me that I should be getting it via email on or after 7/13, but since he gave me the code, I wouldn't have to wait for the email. He said Disney puts ALL codes in the system early so they can make sure they will work when it comes time to be "released".

I think it just depends on what CM you and how much info they are willing to give out. They all do a good job I'm sure, but some will go the extra mile or give you extra hints.

Ya know, I just thought of something.

Don't most general public discounts have a 3 digit code and then special individual, "email" PINs have a longer code?

If so, then maybe this July 13th code will be a general public code because what he gave me was a 3 digit code.

Anyone have any clarification on this?

I was thinking the same thing the email pins are generally alot of numbers ;) the public codes are usually like 2 letters and a number etc. Hoping and praying it is a general code!! :yay:

Pins are usually 16 digits. It's great that you have the code! While I hope it's a general code since my dates are blacked out, it doesn't make sense that WDW would offer free dining with backout dates and then follow it up with free dining with no blackout dates a week later.

Oh well, here's to hoping! Good luck to you and thank you for sharing your information.

Found this posted by Moderator "Canadian Guy" You can find the complete sticky on the Discount Codes and Rates main thread. It does not sound good for a public code, but I am still going to hope.

Everything You Need To Know About Discount Codes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every January it begins -- the CODE frenzy for discounts for the upcoming year. There's a few things to know about how Disney parcels out discount and codes and I've tried to gather it all up in one place.

Code Terms 101

PIN - a numerical sequence that gives you access to a discount offer "code"

CODE - a three letter combination that the agent uses to book a discount offer

PIN-CODE - a three letter combination that requires the agent to enter a PIN to complete the booking process

The terminology sucks. I'd like to create new terms that make sense to everyone here and force everyone to use them. But that ain't going to happen.

If you're still confused think of it like this.

The PIN number you receive in the mail or email -- is like a password for the agent to 'unlock' your special offer code.

If you receive a PIN-offer by email or postal mail. You will have a series of numbers. That is what you give to the agent on the phone. THEY will take care of finding the right 3 letter code that goes with that PIN-offer. You needn't worry about that. These PIN codes are non-transferable.

Good info! Thanks!

Actually I think it makes perfect sense in terms of a marketing concept.....From following previous promotional offers to the general public they know the trends people follow in order to qualify for said promotions, ie changeing dates and or changeing resorts of previous booked reservations, now by time a general public promo is out for a week, they now have a true picture of what resorts and room catogories need filling for what dates so now they can toss out a promo with no black out dates to fill those rooms, of course I do think the rooms etc will be more limited especially say in the values which book quickly during FD but disney also knows people will move their dates or resorts(upgrade) to get that FD so it is a big win win for Disney

Hopefully that's a good thing

It still seems weird that they would release FD and then extend it less than 2 weeks later.

You have to remember Disney Promos are not made to save the consumer $, Promos are offered to raise profits for the stockholders, every thing is based on the bottom line

Yes but people were told about the 7/13 "pin" before they extended it this week. So that means they knew they were going to release it and extend it right away. In all my years of going to WDW I've never seen them do that so it still seems odd to me.

Yes Disney knew they were going to release a new pin on 7/13 a week after extending the FD from 10/3-12/21 with black out dates........

Look at it this way after this week there will still be Resorts with low bookings due to people shifting dates and resorts to qualify for FD with the current promo

On 7/13 they release FD pin with no black out dates but limited room availablity based on those resorts/rooms not booked with the recent FD offer(last week)

In a sense there will be no black out dates with the 7/13 pin, but due to the limited availablity because of the previous FD offer...... black out rooms/resorts(limited allocated), this way they can and will fill the resorts that they want and need filled

I am willing to bet there will be very little availability at the value resorts on 7/13, those people who are booked at the values during the current black out dates are biting at the bit waiting for FD and will gladly upgrade to a mod or maybe even a deluxe to get the FD , yes that will open up value room but not rooms allocated for the promo and Disney knows they can always book value room at a slight discount or rack rate from past expierence

boy do i hope ur theory is right!!! tuesday cant come soon enough! lol :surfweb:

I was pretty ticked off, the CM told me not to worry too much, that there would probably be a room discount too in the future... I just CANNOT figure out why 10/18-10/23 would be a high attendance time! And blacked out TWICE (also on Monster pin)!!

I don't count on discounts, but when it happens like this over and over it feels rubbed in my face. It's not like we're going during a major holiday time!

Trying to get over it, but frankly it ruined my day.

Don't know why this week is excluded in discounts, but I booked this week a few years ago thinking I would at least get an AP discount. Nothing came out and I ended up paying rack rate :) I now wait to book my flights until I get some kind of discount that way I can change my dates.

I am fairly new to these boards and not all that familiar with how Disney rolls out discounts and offers, but IMHO this free dining discount program they just announced had WAY too many blackout dates. I can certainly understand over Tksgiving and Christmas holidays, but this one seems to have more blackout periods than it does effective periods. I'm sure we are not alone in being ticked. We are going Nov 7-13, which is also blacked out and which folks on this board say is a slower time. Go figure
