So are the new smoking bans going to affect the campsites?

it's outside, I don't see what the problem is. As for at the pool, the people are a lot more close to each other, so i could see them separating the smokers vs non smokers

Sounds like a good idea..designated areas to smoke..same as parks. I do think if someone smokes on their own site..it's not really going to be enforceable anyway. Most smokers would likely comply with the designated area..but as with any rule, there are bound to be those who break it. Can't ruin your vacation over it.;)

LOL! thanks for letting me know. i have no idea why i assumed girl, lol!

Meh no problem wihtout people saying what they are no one really knows on a message board hell it could have been my wife posting no one ever truly knows who is on the other end of the keyboard.

A person going without their cigarettes and then finally having one on their own site..isn't going to respond so kindly when you ask them to put it out. I'd be mighty ...apprehensive ..shall we say:confused3 as to where they might decide to comply...so to speak.

I know I've vacationed with my older son(we have a travel trailer)...who used to smoke. Only outside of course. He never would smoke in front of me(mother guilt!)..or his younger brother..as he thought it set a bad example. Of course the younger guy knew he smoked..but it was just something his older brother would not do in front of him. One day..he was sooooooo irritiable...and cranky..because he hadn't had that smoke. We both finally told him..."Please go outside and have a cigarette...we won't look!" We couldn't take it anymore! It is a terrible addiction...and my son struggled MANY times before he was able to quit. It's been 6 mos. now without a cigarette.(and we haven't vacationed with him during that time!) He didn't want to cause anyone discomfort, and was always sensitive to those around him who are bothered by the odor or the effects of the smoke. I think most smokers are. I have a friend who on arrival at the Poly was upgraded to a lagoon view, and didn't take it as it wasn't a smoking room. She easily could have taken it anyway..and no one would have known she smoked on the balcony..but she wouldn't risk having someone irritated by her smoking. Honestly...I think it was a good reason right there and then for her to try and stop(Lagoon View at the Poly!..do you need a better incentive?)..but hey..it's her choice, and she's an adult. She wasn't inflicting her bad habit on anyone but herself. I'm just saying that not all smokers are thoughtless and insensitive to those around them. Most struggle with an addiction..and maybe a little bit of compassion and tolerance would go further than alienation and a bad attitude that could easily backfire if you confront the wrong person.

Congrats to your son I started smioking at the age of 13 and quit at the age of 22 I ust decided I no longer needed to smoke or waste the money so I pitched the smokes in the trash and have never had one since. My dad smoked for 49 years and this past winter he ran out and just decided he didn't feel like going to the store to get any more so he hasn't smoked since either and he was a 2 pack a day smoker. If only it could be that easy for everyone I guess my dad and I are some of the lucky ones with not having the dependency on things like smoking and can quit any time my mom who also smoked for years and years had a laser therapy to get her to quit as she couldn't do it on her own.

This post was found on another thread in the resorts board.

Just got off the phone with Ft. Wilderness campground...you will be allowed to smoke at the campsites, however, you won't be able to smoke at the cabins. There will be designated smoking areas at each loop of the cabins.

Hopefully they will also make the pool, the porch of Trails End/Trading Posts, and the area by the marina non-smoking also.

Thanks for the info I guess this now addresses the issue. Mind you knowing Disney this is revokable without notice and at any time LOL.

As I suspected, they will allow you to smoke at the campsites, I knew that without confirmation we were all just talking about something that wasn't going to happen...lol.

Even though I don't smoke, I'm glad to see that they aren't alienating the smokers. Plus, as we all said here, how in the heck are they going to enforce non smoking at a place like the Fort...lol. I knew the cabins and public areas would be affected, but that totally makes sense.

The worst thing you could be in my neighborhood growing up, was a rat.

I grew up with that concept too and I'm Canadian. However, as a nurse we are bound by confidently unless someone tells me that they are about to hurt themselves or someone else. I've taught my own children the same rule; unless someone's actions pose danger to yourself or someone else then mind your own business. I think the same way for the Disney rules. If I see someone driving their golf cart in a dangerous manner then I think I have a responsiblity to report that before someone gets hurt. If someone is smoking outside at their campsite then really it isn't my business, it appears that Disney feels the same way as they are not going to ban smoking at campsites.

Boy where are the rules are rules people now? The fun police are out there and 1 day something you like or something you like to do will soon be against the rules. let people that smoke on thier site pay a charge of $5 a day charge like thay make pet owners do.

Maybe the beer drinkers (we know who we are) should pay an extra $5 day because of the more frequent urination.

Why the extra $5 a day for pet owners?

Pet owners pay a $5 day charge for thier pets I can't tell you why but that is the charge. Much like people that don't like picking up dog poo. people that just throw thier cigarettes buts all over the camp site. Palm Beach County just past a new law if you throw a cigarettes out of our car there is a fine and if that cigarettes starts a a fire you are responsible for the cost that the fire brings. I like that many people go to the park for the day and if someone that smokes start a fire at FW burns down my million $ motorcoach and kills my dog thay need to pay.

It seems that some people are concerned about future trips to FW and smoking at the campsites, I just wanted to add that I'm very sensitive to cigarette smoke and have stayed at Fort Wilderness many, many times. In all those times I've never had any problems with cig smoke at campsites, in the loops, comfort stations or at a bus stop, campfire sing-a-long, etc. The only time I've ever been bothered by cigarette smoke was on the front porch outside of Crockett's Tavern (which, if you didn't guess by now, is one of my favorite places to just 'be' at the fort).

I don't think anyone should be concerned about people smoking at their own campsite, and I don't think it's necessary to separate smokers from non at different loops. That would just be one more thing to add to the confusion of assigning campsites. We would like a preferred, pet, smoking, near the comfort station, non-alligator, no bus squeaks, no breastfeeding children on wheelies (ouch:scared1: ), mocha chaka kan latte campsite please. Can I have that to go?

I think they are focusing on the things that are actually rules. This is just a "what if " thread. It is kinda funny that you act like the people that say you should follow the rules, actually make the rules:rotfl2: and the only purpose is to stop you from having fun:lmao: .

I dont recall ever seeing any burned out hulks of "million $ motorcoach" while driving through FW.
Cost recovery for public services caused by someone elses negligence is a whole different discussion away from what the thread started at.

a whole different discussion away from what the thread started at.

I agree. This thread started as a discussion about whether or not smoking would be allowed at the campsites.

We got our answer (yes, smoking is still allowed in your own campsite). I'm locking the thread now, and ask that you please not start another thread on this topic.

Thanks! :goodvibes
