What I'm hoping they'll do for Ft. Wilderness is leave the actual campsites alone and make the designated smoking areas away from the public areas such as the porches of the restaurants and the trading posts and away from the pools.

I completely agree with this, please no smoking at the pool, when we were there last August, it seems that everyone smoked at the pool, I have a daughter with asthma and cigarette smoke is one of the triggers.

The new policy is no smoking in the resorts or on balconies and patios I know DVC will be charginf fines of 250-500 US for the offence that will be tacked on to your bill at the end if you didn't leave your CC it is put in the system as past due DUES and you won't be able to book another stay till it is cleared up. I am not to sure how the rest of the resorts are doing this but I assume it will be very very similar. The resorts will all have smoking areas away from the accomodations.

Apparently this is one of the rules they truly plan on enforcing I guess they do quite a good job of it out in Cali and are planning on the same for Florida.

Are they going to give refunds for smoking A/P holders, 30% of visitors are from overseas, how will this affect them, a higher percent of them smoke. I would rather see a $ 2.00 a pack tax, to go towards helping Social Security, beer also.

I think you are right. I have no problem with someone smoking in their own RV or even outdoors at their campsite. However, I do agree that public places like the pools, stores, comfort stations and around the TE should be smoke free. I would hope that most campers will be careful about where the dispose of their cigarette butts to prevent accidental fires. Disney may enforce this rule. A few years ago I remember reading about a waitress who sued her employer for exposure to second hand smoke, perhaps the Disney lawyers have decided that they do not want to expose the company to any liabilities which could arise from employee complaints or even accidental fires. I can also remember before the parks had smoking areas, there were always several CMs sweeping up cigarette butts all over the place. My DH and I have always wondered how many CM sweepers were not needed any more after the smoking rules were changed. Disney , like any other company, usually weighs the costs against the benefits of any decesion that they make.

As FtWildernessGuy said, none of this matters. What are they going to do, have people every 10 feet checking if anyone is smoking a cigarette? It's not like hotel rooms, where if you smoke in a room or on a balcony it's easy to tell. The campsite is open, and honestly, if people start telling on their neighbors all the time about who's smoking and who's not, you're just going to start seeing some fights happen.

They might make the rule, but it will never be enforced. Yea, someone here or there might be asked to put their cigarette out, and you might see it less in some of the more public places, but I'm sorry if you think that the smoke is actually going to go away

Disney doesn't make rules to enforce them, they make rules to look good to the public and to have something to fall back on. It's the same as those that think Disney cares about golf cart this, or private cart that, or this rule here or there.

While some people think it is their right to be policemen on their vacations, Disney takes a much more lax approach. They realize that we are all there to have a good time, and not to spend all our time worrying what everyone else is doing :/

Well hopefully the 250-500 dollars charged to your CC for doing so will be enough to get people to follow the set rules. I am one of those people that would have no quams about alerting a CM to somone smoking where they are not to be smoking.

The 250-500 fee is to have a special cleaning for a room that has been smoked in so that a future guest won't notice. There is no special cleaning that will have to be done to an empty driveway and a sand pad.

Dh and I both smoke when having a adult beverage, but other than that, we do not ever light up. Must go back to high school days lol.
Ill be a tad bummed if we cant smoke at our own camping spot, but life will go on. I am totally on board with keeping it away from the pool and other public areas. Private balconies ehhh maybe not some much, but its private property and WDW can make any rules they want. Much of the U.S. seems to being to this.

I agree. I think smoking at your individual campsite is going to be a tough thing to enforce. A site is larger than a balcony at a resort, where the smoke is much more likely to bother someone else.
Having it enforced in common areas like the pool, or porch at TE seems like a good idea to me.

I'm just joking, but I'm showing you how hard it would be to actually enforce this in a campsite as compared to a hotel.

As the other poster mentioned, that charge is for hotels so that they can clean the rooms, there is nothing to "clean up" in an open air site. Disney already knows that they can't really enforce this, which is why it's taken them this long just to just say "Yes, campsites too" (although I'm still waiting for some more confirmation of this).

It's going to be just like the parks, the rule will be there, but unless someone makes a huge complaint about it, Disney isn't going to do anything. Like I said, Disney isn't there to enforce the rules, they are there to cover their butts (no pun intended) in case something happened. You will not see this rule enforced anytime soon at Ft. Wilderness (except of course people who smoke inside the cabins, those people would probably get charged, and those who smoke near the public places).

ANYWHERE but trails end porch. It's hard enough as it is to sit down and not get a smoker beside you, it would only get worse. I think River Country would be an excellent spot to let the smokers do their thing. Or better yet, put them all on Discovery Island!

I feel that the hotels are different from campground. I agree that the common areas should definetly be off limits..same as they would in the parks or restaurants elsewhere. To say to someone they can't smoke outdoors on their own site... I don't see that happening. I don't think it would infringe on the rights of non smokers to the same degree that it does in the resorts. Practically speaking I don't see it being enforced. Are they going to have the "smoking police" patrol site to site..loop to loop, looking for the culprits. Not likely. I think that if the ban is implemented and a violator is reported..they would simply ask them to put out the cigarette. I think it would be similar to the mugs...who cares if you refill your mug from a prior visit? Is Disney going to lock you up and throw away the keys? Of course not..they want those vacation dollars. I wouldn't want to waste one minute of my precious vacation time worrying whether someone is refilling a mug or smoking a cigarette on their own site.

I guess it will all come down to how Disney frases this and how they work it for the FW folks I know it will be the same as the resorts for the cabins but until they officially release the policy for the campsites we are all speculating here.
