So apparently I need a new vacuum

any recommendations? Mine is 20 years old and the hose just broke.

We have a carpeted basement and hardwood floors upstairs. We also have two kids and two cats so my basement rug is always covered in either cat hair or mysterious splotches.

I appreciate any recommendations as I have NO idea what the best model would be right now. My current one is a Eureka Bravo upright.

Thanks!
Terri

The purple Dyson, worth every penny!!!!!!!

Love my Dyson too!!!! I have the red one-going on 6 yrs old and I would love the purple one for our pets....

Yep, the Dyson Animal - we just bought ours 3 weeks ago after our Bissell died. I never thought I would LOVE a vacuum. :rotfl:

I know, I know!!!!!!:rotfl:So funny hearing women complain about getting them as an anniversary, birthday or Christmas gift-I'd be thrilled!!!

Love my Oreck! And it helps that you can often get it on easy pay from QVC!

I do hear great things about the Dyson too.

Get a Miele. Dysons are nothing but gimmickry. A vacuum does not need to look like a Star Wars prop. Have you seen their $300 fans? Seems they think we'll believe any hype delivered with a British accent. There is one born every minute.

We love James, our yellow Dyson, it may look like a Star Wars prop (and in this house, that would be a good thing) but also delivers the goods. Seriously, that thing sucks the heck out of the carpet and it does a great job. Never had a broken belt, clogged hose, etc. And we had a collie/golden for much of that vacuums life and it never had a problem with the pet hair. I did, but James didn't.

I have a Dyson animal, and I can assure you it's not just hype, that thing could suck the scales off a goldfish!

Love my Dyson. Only thing that is a drawback for me is it's weight and bulkiness. I hate dragging it upstairs. But the performance is outstanding!

We have hardwoods upstairs and a carpeted basement... we have an inexpensive Kenmore upright that I LOVE. We occasionally bring it upstairs to vacuum the area rugs. It cost us about $125, we beat the heck out of it, and it works like a champ. :thumbsup2

Love my Hover WindTunnel. We have a black lab it is the only thing that really picked up the dog hair. It is not the bagless. I tried my sisters Dyson and this did a better job on my carpet.

I'm another Dyson Animal lover! The pet hair brush really picks up the fur when you need it to.

That's what I'm saying. For the same price it is out performed in every way by a Miele at a fraction of the weight and noise level.

I love my Dyson animal! I do not think it's a loud vacuum and the kids will actually argue over who's going to use it.:lmao: Been using it for 4 years now and it's great on the carpet and my Pergo floors.

YIKES - the Miele's are sure a pricey vacuum. And they aren't even "bagless".

Thanks all! Wow - I really appreciate the responses.

Having not bought a vacuum in 20 years (and actually I don't think I bought this one either, I think my parents gave it to me) I am interested in the discussion of value for $$. I can look up prices online but I am curious what you think is a "reasonable" price to pay for a vacuum.

Thanks!
