DS bought the blue train/monorail set this past August, and of course, wants the Polynesian resort accessory :rotfl2: yep, he has an eye for the pricey, retired cannot be found stuff. Anyway, started our Holiday shopping so went with the Contemporary resort and castle, and extra track. My folks are giving the Main Street station building meant for the HO scale train, but works for monorail. Seems like everything else is discontinued...spaceship earth, Grand Floridian, Haunted Mansion....I have seen a few on EBAY, but I am mainly curious as to why Disney is not coming out with new accessories to replace the old....the monorail train keeps coming out in new colors each year...any advice or other seekers? I was thinking for sure an Expedition Everest set......

A couple of weeks ago I saw the 3 piece accessory package that has the Contemp tree, Main Street Square lamp post and the Tomorrowland palm tree. It was half price. I'll keep you posted if I see something new...

Anyone have pictures of their monorail setup? I've had one for many years but never took it out of the box!

The monorail doesn't go to Animal Kingdom. There won't be an Everest piece for the monorail.

Good Point EpcotMatt! However, there is a Sorcerers hat set for the monorail and MGM is not on the monorail line either, same for the Tree of Life set so...maybe EE will still be a possibility. I can't help but wish that there were some new items to replace the discontinued ones. Looks like the toy focus seems to be on "CARS" and "PIRATES"....not that I mind, those are both so cool...wouldn't a new SPACE MOUNTAIN set be awesome?

Pam

I always thought that the monorail extras were only the Poly, GF, Contemporary, T&TC. I have the Haunted Mansion play set, and I have it displayed with my other HM stuff. It doesn't go with the monorail.......

I am moving and have already packed the HM in it's box. I don't remember what the box actually says. I know at Once Upon a Toy they were displayed with the monorail.....maybe that is where the idea is coming from...

Pam you know there is/was a Space Mountain set for the monorail? You said it would be cool to have a "new SM set". :confused3

We have ours set up you can see it by clicking on TINK ROOM in my sig.

Hi Micca...yeah, I saw the SM in a display , but not available now. Sure wish Disney would re-release some of the attractions/play sets, for the "new" monorail collectors like my 12 year old DS!

Hi
I was wondering if you could tell me what this years monorail train set color is.
Thanks

Dan

Blue is being sold right now. But I'm not sure if that is for this year or next year. Blue is a little different than the previous editions in that it has opening doors and roof, with detailed interiors so you can put the little characters (that are included with the set) inside.

I am new to the board and have been searching for info on the new blue monorail set. My son has an old set we bought years ago and it is probably his favorite thing that he owns - he has played with it day in and day out for years and it has withstood the test of time! We saw this set at the parks this weekend and my son went insane because he loves playing little scenarios and with the doors that open and the roof that opens and the little characters you can place inside - it was perfect for him. We plunked down the large sum of money for it and we wanted to leave the park immediately and drive home to open it up. This set is nothing like the old monorail set we have as far as quality goes...we spend the first 45 minutes of playing with it putting broken pieces back together on it....the doors break off if you sneeze, the roof pieces that are supposed to just open, snap off if you sneeze. The characters are supposed to "sit" and get placed on a little point of plastic in the seat to hold them in place and 1 out of the 8 actually worked - all of the others break apart in the middle when you try to put them in. This was a great idea but POOR QUALITY!!! We were so disappointed - we had to finally just take all of the roof pieces off and the cute but non-working characters and place them in a baggy up in my son's closet...we then found some very small playmobile people and small animals and my son rode those around in the open topped monorail. We can't return it because my son would be heart broken...we will just keep our fingers crossed that the doors won't break permanently when they break off. This was obviously made as a toy to play interatively with otherwise they wouldn't have made the changes with opening doors and roof and characters....but it just falls apart at every chance.....I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that wants to buy it for a child to play with - it's great for a piece that sits on a shelf or display. Has anyone else had issues with their set???

Our DS bought the blue set ( his first) this past August, so he has only had it 4 months...but he has not had any of the issues you list. at least not so far. He places the characters ( and boy are they small) on the outside tho...he does not have any accsssories so he built a "world" out of blocks and the characters are set up there. I have noticed that it does go thru batteries pretty quickly, but in general seems to be holding up. It is under our Christmas tree right now.

We just got the blue set as well, and i had the same issues as you did! We only had it set up for 1 day - when the doors came off (We were able to get these back on easily though) and the characters broke apart - all but 2! And i CAN'T for the life of me get them back together.. which makes me very upset for the $70 spent on it!! I too though, would love to see some new "buildings" for it, as the retired ones on EBAY are sooooooo overpriced.. Ok for adults i guess, but not for kids who want to start a collection.
