SO annoyed with our mail carrier

Ok, warning...this will be a long story. Where we live, our mailboxes are on the street. The post offices rule is if there is a car blocking your mailbox, no mail. Dumb rule, mail is supposed to be delivered thru rain, sleet snow, and parked cars, but whatever. We've gotten used to this and some of them, depending on who it is, will still deliver. Some will even come to the door if theres a package, wave, nice and friendly. So today, DDs friend came to play, and her mom parked in front of the mail box. We didn't think anything of it. DH is upstairs, and heres this horn beeping constantly for about 5 min. Apparently, he sees from the window, its the mail carrier beeping at the parked car for us to move it. Didn't think anything of it, friend leaves, have dinner, DH goes to get the mail. In the mailbox is not our mail, but a note handwritten saying because a minivan was parked there, our mail was not delivered. GGRRRR!!

So, heres my point. If the car was there, he wouldn't have left the mail, I would be fine. If he put the note in there for the future WITH the mail, I would be fine. But he sat there, handwrote a note, got OUT of his car to put the note in our mailbox but NO MAIL!! Its like he did it to prove a point. Isn't that rude? I called to complain already and she even said he should have put the note there with the mail, but to put just the note? I mean, he could have delivered mail to our whole subdivision by the time he wrote it out and put it in the mailbox. Ok, thats it. Had to vent. Thanks for listening.

Our postman drives me nuts too!! Three times in the past two weeks, he has done this. We've gotten 2 certified letters and 1 package with delivery confirmation on it. I was home each time the mail was delivered - car in the driveway. One of the days, I was OUTSIDE IN THE FRONT YARD!!! For each item, we received a "Sorry we missed you note" and had to go to the post office and pick up the item. He's just too sorry to get off his rump and come to the door!!

Sorry you had trouble with your mail carrier.

Ours it a hottie and wore shorts today... he is really nice too.

Does anyone know if you can tip them?

(and I don't mean anything nasty by that :goodvibes )

Isn't it illegal to park in front of a mailbox? Anyway, if not, you still shouldn't park in front of them--unless you know the mail's not coming. I never do. I would expect if someone was parked in front of mine that I wouldn't get my mail. Why should the postman have to get out of his car everytime because people block the mailbox?

I agree with you, and we're used to this rule. And I would have no problem if he hadn't delivered our mail. My issue is that he wrote a note and got out of his car to put the note in our mailbox, yet he didn't put our mail in the mailbox.

Mail carrier vent here too: I ordered an 8x10 photo of my son - it arrives in a photo mailer clearly printed on both sides "Do Not Bend Photo." And guess what? Of course, it's folded in half and stuck in the mail box!!!! This is not the first time he/she has bent things to put in the mail box. GRRRRRR!!!!! I put a note on the mail box for next time, and it was put on my front porch - thank you!

I had problems when I lived in California as well. I had a mail slot in my front door and the mail was always left on the ground in front of the door. ?????

Are any mail carriers on the boards? I would love to know what they are thinking when they do these things.

I was called out of town in a hurry once and called my mailman at home and he stopped our mail until we got back.

One time I mailed a letter, no return address, and for some reason it was returned - to me. The postmaster recognized my handwriting.

Can you tell that we live in a small town? :cool1:

I have a special drinking cup that I put iced tea in on hot days for my mailman AND I give him a $20 (the maximum allowed by law) tip each Christmas.

Slightly Goofy

I have nothing to really add to this thread, except that I thought that was really funny.

Um, any chance you can slap a stamp on your mc and mail him my way?? ;)

another small towner here,, our mail man is also our neighbor across the street, he's been know to stop and play with our cats and dof when we are out of town, his wife feeds them for us, he's delivered large potted plants ,, his wife works at a nursery and she sends me things home by him .. ( we are hte second box a fter his lunch break:)

In our last neighborhood, the mail carrier, Kenny, was very friendly and would stop to talk. He'd stop to look at the latest gardening project, new car, etc. Kids would take turns taking him ice cream in the summer. Of course he sometimes stopped too long to talk, esp. w/my next door neighbor who I think he had the hots for ;) Of course this was always when I was expecting a package or check. But, he looked after his route. We always tipped well at Christmas and again before we moved.

We now live in a new development and a lot of neighbors are having follow up work done on their houses, decks, patios, and fences built, etc. etc. It drives me crazy when their workers' trucks park in front of my mailbox and I don't get mail but they do :sad2: Our mail carrier drives a regular car but sits in the right passenger side in order to deliver mail. How is THAT not illegal? It scares me to death that he'll lose control and hit the wrong pedal while his body is spread across the front of the car. What I'd do to have Kenny again!

I just love a man in uniform...

Yep, gotta love the small town carriers. If our mail is stopped while on vacation, we can call them day before we get back, and they'll deliver all the mail for us!

Mail carriers SHOULD get out of their trucks to deliver the mail because that is what they are paid to do. In my old neighborhood they walked up and down the street. I don't expect them to do that here in Florida cuz it's just too hot - but I do expect to get my mail everyday.

BTW - during Hurricane (one of the three) we didn't get mail, but we did get our newspaper! :confused3

never had a complaint about mail delivery around here.

my complaint is about vandals -- we have curbside mail boxes, and someitmes the kids like to have "fun" by smashing the boxes.

BTW I believe mail carriers are not allowed to accept tips.

I love my mailman, unfortunately he's not a hottie. :sad2: He's a sweetie though. My MIL has a LAZY mail carrier. If she doesn't have any mail to deliver to an address, she will not pick up any outgoing mail from there, even if the flag is clearly up. MIL called the PO about this and they said that although most carriers will pick up anyway, they don't have to. Mail pick-up is aparently a courtesy. :confused3

Yeah, my mail carrier has done something similar. We live in a neighborhood with an association that is "supposed" to clear the snow from in front of the mailboxes. (Supposed to being the key phrase there.) So, we will on occassion get a nasty note from the mail carrier handwritten and placed in all four of our boxes that are grouped together that the mail could not be delivered because the snow was not cleared away properly. Sooooo, how did that note get in there?? Did it fly?

PLUS, she does the little "sorry we missed you" when we have been home thing too. Drives me nuts. She also ROUTINELY delivers the wrong mail to us. Often it is just a house or two up the street and then we bring it to the right person, but many times it is on a totally different street. One neighbor had put mail out in her box that had been delivered wrong and put the flag up twice but the carrier wouldn't take it out. Then she wrote on it "Delivered to wrong address." and got a note from the carrier telling her not to write on other people's mail. Uhhhh, helloooo.

My personal favorite though is that whenever we get packages from the post office, they REEK of cigarette smoke. My sister sent my DD a Halloween costume one year--Cinderella gloves, tiara and wand and the smoke smell was so bad that I had to put the gloves in the dryer with a couple of dryer sheets. (And no, my sis does not smoke!)

Every other house we have ever lived in though, the carriers have been great. I just can't believe this woman is still employed with as much as the whole neighborhood complains.

Oh no - I am so sorry - I need him.

In fact it has crossed my mind that we can't move because I would lose the sight of his tan, long, muscular legs during the summer <insert drooling smilie here>

We have exceptionally poor mail service here. Frequently, parcels either get lost or misdelivered. We get other people's mail. Bill are mailed and never reach their destination. Of course, mail is not delivered if there is snow in front of the mail box, and, this small Indiana town never plows our street. When we get someone else's mail, we try to be sure that it gets to the correct place, either by bringing it there ourselves, or bringing it back to the post office (some of the mail delivery is WAY off). Our old carrier, for some reason, would leave parcels on the ground by the garage door, and leave the rest of mail at the curb. The new one leaves parcels inside our screened in front porch, which is much nicer.

A little off topic, but a funny mail carrier story:

One day we noticed the mail carrier stopped at our mailbox for a very looonnnggg time. After awhile we noticed he was reading a magazine while sitting there. We get ALOT of magazines (freebies I sign up for online). We could make out a sports figure on one of the pages (Dh knew who it was). Sure enough, we got our mail and flipped through the mags and found the full page pic of that sports person! :earseek: Too funny! :rotfl2:

Texas summers can be brutal, the kids watch for the mail carriers and deliver bottles of water to them. When the kids were small, they were facinated by the garbage trucks, they also delivered water bottles to the garbage men - it's a amazing how our cans were the only ones on the street, returned to their places and upright with the lids in place on top... :)
